so much of the horror genre is informed by the metaphor of queer/transness as monstrousness. especially emphasizing the amount of horror that depends on the audience's repulsion at seeing a human body changing into a new, other body. I Saw the TV Glow is about the horror of NOT transitioning. the horror of static. the horror of looking into yourself and being terrified of what you see. the horror of seeing who you are and choosing to do nothing about it. the horror of looking away. and by god is it terrifying.

Cold was now sitting on the floor, Lisa next to him, using the busted up wall as a backrest. Lisa’s head was tilted to the side, resting on her brother’s shoulder, her eyes closed and expression soft. Candlelight played across her face, the only light in the room now that his machine had been turned off. Cisco thought she was probably asleep, but you never knew with Snarts.
Barry on the other hand was definitely asleep, his deep breathes sounding loud in the otherwise quiet room. His head was pillowed on Cold’s thigh, the villain’s hand tangled in his hair. His cowl was pulled back from him face, hanging loose around his neck like a hoodie. He looked unguarded, the tightness of his features from before having melted away. Cold obviously hadn’t noticed Cisco’s return because his gaze remained fixated on Barry’s face.

Protocol is actually just us Magnus Archives fans rapidly descending into s2-Jon-levels of paranoia. Granted, just like s2 Jon, we have reason to be paranoid, but it's still hilarious to see us all collectively scaling the walls of our enclosure while frothing at the mouth over our theories.

The idea that people may listen to The Magnus Protocol and think Alice isn't trans is kinda hysterical to me. It's up there with listening to the Magnus Archives and thinking Martin isn't fat. You can. I won't beat down your door. But you're wrong. You are in fact just wrong
