Means of tracking self-care: BACE
I’ve talked about it before, about how a lot of what we talk when we talk self care is well… reactive.
It’s what you do when you’re already frustrated.
and while that is an okay place to start,
the best self care regimen is one that is proactive.
One of the options for that is the BACE method.
and the idea is that you do something in each category at least once a day, and ideally- at least 3 times a day. Checking in during the morning, afternoon, and the evening.
Body Care- Sleep, hygiene, stretching, exercise, nutrition, correcting posture, things like that.
Achievement- chores, work, working towards goals, running errands, whatever gives you a sense of ‘I did a thing I needed to do’
Connect with Others- whether it be physically, writing a letter, email, text, anything. Social connection is an often overlooked part of self care.
Enjoyment- whether it be looking up pictures of kittens online, drawing, telling jokes… just doing something that brings you a moment of happiness.
