not to be a buzzkill but it's mildly annoying to go into conclave fandom spaces and see people assume that benitez would be a wildly progressive pope (like, to the point of ending clerical chastity or allowing for the ordination of women) when one of the most appealing parts of his character (to me) is that we know almost nothing about him or his policies. we know he ministered to victims of sexual violence, we know he advocates for religious tolerance-- but so do so many religious conservatives in real life! there's no indication in the text that he would be any more progressive than, say, pope francis, who is of course progressive for a pope but not in any absolute political sense.
