a long day
title | a long day
notes | This honestly started as a prompt request about Caitlin nearly losing Barry and Cisco and them dealing with that, but then I was three paragraphs in and it didn’t fit but I liked what I’d written, so instead this is a episode 1x18 tag looking at the last part, as they’re talking about Wells and Caitlin’s reaction (and thus Barry’s reaction to that).
Barry realizes much too late that this is a mistake, that this conversation is one that could have (should have) waited for another day. It’s in the way that Caitlin’s eyes fall, plummet really, for a second before flaring with disbelief. Her protests come and, already in too deep to go back, he counters that earnest faith (the same faith she has for him; a thought that twists his heart sharply as soon as it comes to mind) with his suspicions, all of them reeling in the aftermath of Cisco’s story. It’s needed and it’s necessary and there are few things in the world he wants more than to be honest with them, but the way Caitlin crumbles in that moment, faith torn asunder by two of the only men who hold that power, breaks something inside of him.
This is too much to ask of Caitlin on one day, how did that never occur to him?

Fandom: Once Upon a Time
Pairing: Captain Swan
Rating: T (I know, I’m as shocked as you are!)
Summary: (Prequel to Goodnight Moon.) Storybrooke might be her home now, but that doesn’t mean she wants to be still living with her parents when her baby brother is ready to go off to college. And then, of course, there’s the pirate who gave up his ship but refuses to admit he misses having a real home. (The title is a quote from the beautiful (inside and out) Audrey Hepburn. This story is set vaguely in S4, and there is no mention of Frozen.)
Note: This is a special gift for my dear friend scribblecat27. I have been promising to write this particular request/prompt (involving searching for a home, a garden and long-buried memories of one particular pirate) for a while now, and I finally managed to escape from RL demands long enough this week to get it done. (P.S. Only two more sleeps to go until 401. Eieeee!)
