It boggles my mind when people don’t think Hook has the most flawless redemption arc on this show. Hook has the best redemption arc on this show for the sole reason that he’s the only “villain” that did not try to find the damn author to change the shitty choices HE made. HE takes blame for his actions. HE works hard to be forgiven by people and to earn their trust back instead of trying to force someone to fix his past. HE is focusing on bettering himself for the future while acknowledging his poor decisions and learning from them and taking his fate in his own hands.
okay seriously is killian jones the only character on this show who, when he doesn’t like who he is, or the choices he makes—actively CHANGES his behavior and becomes a better person on his own rather than force someone else to change his life for him
Shipping and the Arrow-verse – Understanding Olicity and Snowbarry
After watching The Flash 1x04, one conversation inspired me to this post. The one towards the end between Felicity and Barry. Not because they said anything I didn’t already know (opposites attract etc., we all know that), but because, very importantly, the conversation proved that the writers tell the story with this in mind. They know why Felicity and Oliver work together, why Oliver’s story with Felicity is a vastly superior story than him and everybody else; and it makes me believe that maybe they are realising the same is the case with Barry and Caitlin. So, fair warning; if Snowbarry isn’t your cup of tea, you may not find this post interesting. For the rest, if you’re curious about why I see parallels between Olicity and Snowbarry, and why in the course of a few episodes I was convinced to root for Caitlin and Barry, read on.
Small Captain Swan moment from the first 7 min of next Sunday’s episode!
"No good has ever come of pushing that woman. Give her space."
One of the things I like most about Hook as a character is that, perhaps due to his exceptionally long lifetime of observing people, he understands the spectrum of human nature, emotion and motivation better than any of the other main characters, save perhaps Rumpel (but Rumpel has mostly chosen to do bad, manipulative things with it).
Killian mostly gives his onscreen advice to Emma, but he’s done it for most of the others as well. Sometimes it’s like he’s the only actual adult in the room, heh.
Most all of the others are too myopic (Emma and Snow, for ex.) and/or simply not experienced enough (Charming, tho he’s certainly coming along) to understand what drives all types of people, and how to handle their behavior. Hook’s now always the voice of reason, since he got off the crazy train in season 2.
I’m going to frame this meta.
I think the CS fandom should stop paying attention to the haters and responding to them. Its just feeding the trolls. It'll die out if CS'ers didnt give a crap and they don't matter. CS is popular. Hook is popular. Colin is popular. I was at Comic-Con last year and the loudest screams and claps was for Colin and Robert. The others were all about equal. When Colin said that jab you with my sword line, the room literally erupted. Seriously that got the craziest amount of applause and screams.
I think this is pretty solid advice, and it’s nice to hear these things, so I’m just gonna leave this here, without further comment.
bows down to Jane
want to know why outlaw queen and captain swan are happening at such unequal rates? because both regina and robin grew up in the enchanted forest, both of them grew up believing in true love and happily ever after
emma didn’t have that. she grew up in the ‘real world’ and has had every happy ending she’s ever wanted taken from her. so her progression with killian has to be slower to fit her character and her realm whereas regina’s progression can happen faster
regina may have lost faith in true love at some point but emma never had it to begin with and that’s a hard concept to accept
if you still dislike snow after tonight then we can never ever ever be friends because she is a perfect princess who truly wants everyone to find happiness and love and goodness in their life
THREE YEARS I’VE WAITED FOR THIS

"People are gonna tell you who you are your whole life. You just gotta punch back and say, ‘No, this is who I am’. You want people to look at you differently? Make them!”
What’s been great about the Neverland arc, is that Hook has had to really prove himself not a villain and that he’s more than a pirate with black leather and a hook, that he can be a hero.
The primary theme this season has been belief and the first character poster that was released was Hook’s and it read: Believe that a pirate can be a hero.
From that poster, we knew this was going to be the season where Hook transitioned from villain to hero and he did. He’s had to prove himself a hero each episode that he isn’t the villain, but in fact, as Eddie foretold, a villain stuck inside a hero’s body. He’s had to prove certain myths about himself to the Charmings and most importantly Emma.
Speaking of Charming, Hook and Charming were not on good terms at the beginning of this season but since saving him in Neverland, their relationship has changed. They’re closer to good friends and Prince Charming doesn’t have many guy friends.
In Going Home, in the church scene, when Hook stepped up to draw the shadow’s attention and fell onto the floor, it was Prince Charming who caught him and brought him back to safety, out of harm’s way. He has proved himself to Charming that he is a hero and someone worth looking out for at least.
Emma also recognizes that Hook is not a villain anymore and started to really fall in love with him and realize, how much she did care for him in the winter finale.
Haters would argue that Hook isn’t heroic enough compared to Regina and Rumpelstiltskin’s sacrifice, but it doesn’t make his time in Neverland irrelevant.
Coming back to Neverland was a MAJOR turning point for Hook. Deciding to let go of his revenge, to help someone else, Emma save her son, risk his life and sail back to a land that he loathes, set him on a journey towards redemption as a character and also, eventually accepting and putting closure on his revenge and looking towards the future and what that could look like.
He sacrificed his revenge, gave that up to do a really selfless act, help save Henry and guide our heroes on their quest to save him in a land that he hates. He saved Prince Charming from the Dreamshade because he didn’t want to see Emma lose her father, the same way he lost his beloved brother Liam.
He told Snow and Charming about Neal, which was something that happened very quickly after his kiss with Emma. He could have taken the selfish route and keep that information to himself but he told them.
Hook also did not take Pan’s deal to kill Charming when he asked, nor did he run off after Rumpelstiltskin after he separated from the group in the premiere. He stopped caring about himself and put Emma and her family as his first priority.
A villain becomes a hero when he or she starts worrying or carrying about themselves and instead, puts others first; and gives something up (in this case, Hook’s revenge) to help Emma rescue her boy. Hook also did not expect Charming to toast him once they returned to camp, nor did he expect that Emma would actually accept his challenge to kiss him.
Hook’s sacrifice and journey from villain to hero is not the same as Rumple’s or Regina’s but it is not, any less great.
Robin staring at Regina like nobody’s business.
I love how he looks at her like he sees more than others see. He sees the pain of loss and the desire to be seen as more than everyone’s first impression. His looks says understanding, and yet he is still intrigued by her.
Captain Swan + Emma touched
The Queen has been back home for like five minutes and she’s already throwing insults… and fireballs.
