You know, I love entrapdak but I can’t follow anyone in the fandom cause they spend more time complaining about the show or “retaliating” against antis than actually enjoying the ship? Or just finding things to nitpick at this point (the most recent post about Catra in corridors). Anyway, love you and your writing, but your *blog* is exhausting and I’ve gotta go. I don’t know how you’re still enjoying the ship when most of what I see on your blog and those of other major entrapdak blogs is just... miserable.

Hm, I haven’t been around much lately and from what I can see the last time I talked about “antis” was four days ago? I get what you’re saying about the negativity and nitpicking around this side of the fandom, I just wasn’t aware that I was partaking in that to an “exhausting” degree.

But honestly? ...I don’t really blame you.

I do agree that the Catra criticism is getting into “bitch eating crackers” territory, which is why I was trying to defend her yesterday. I guess part of why I’m into the Disaster Duo thing is trying to inject some positivity into the most discordant part of fandom, but lately it seems like fans who were positive about these things before have just gotten more and more anti-ish themselves.

Anyway, sorry to see you go. I’m going to try and post some more positivity this upcoming week.

I’m just gonna say Catra and Hordak are two disasters with two similar but different experiences of abuse via Shadow Weaver and Horde Prime primarily, but they also mess with each other. Both narratives offer their own tales. I’m kind of shocked there aren’t more fans of both of them. There doesn’t have to be this fight of who had it worse. :/

To be fair, a lot of post-canon Entrapdak fics I’ve read have Catra as an unexpected ally to Hordak in helping the princesses come around to accepting or at least not executing him. Which seems like a natural place to go based on their awkwardly unhostile interactions in S5! I have a collection of platonic Catra and Hordak catharsis fics here, if you’re interested. (and always looking for more)

If Entrapdak fics treated Catra the way the rest of the fandom treats Hordak, they, uh, wouldn’t be very good fics. Believe me, if a fic started with Adora saying “I realized Catra sucks and locked her in a dungeon off-screen to starve, lol” or had Hordak start a “We Hate Catra” club I would not be giving it my kudos!

(btw I wish fans wouldn’t act like being anti-princess was Catra’s only flaw. I think pointing out the hypocrisies of who the narrative frames as “good guys” is a good actually, particularly when they are superpowered rich kids. Let Catra keep criticizing the princesses instead of unquestioningly buying into their sparkly bullshit, and Hordak can back her up because they were ableist to his wife!)

I genuinely like it! I’ve been on board since Princess Prom when I realized “whoa, this might not just be queerbaiting!”

I just don’t like being called a fascist lesbophobic geriatric beast for liking another ship and another villain, you know? And from my angle, most of the blogs that are hostile didn’t used to be that way until the toxic twitter fandom made them bitter.

I also think Catra’s one of the best characters because the show was willing to Go There with her, and it’s sad that Tumblr-brain has made fans think they need to “de-claw” her, so-to-speak, and be on the constant defensive to be allowed to like her.

Anyways, I fully support a reconciliation and Hordak giving away his “little sister” at the Catradora wedding. (Or maybe she should give him away the Entrapdak wedding?)

So, I’ve seen many antis and even certain progressive podcasters get confused about who sent Entrapta to Beast Island. They seem to think Hordak sent her there off-screen after Catra lied to him, even though it was shown that Catra did it herself without his knowledge.

Which is totally understandable confusion, considering we only see it mentioned how many times on the show? Let’s see:

  1. We see Catra give the order to put Entrapta on the transport before she lies to Hordak.
  2. Scorpia mentions it to Catra several times.
  3. Hordak thinks Entrapta is building new things for the princesses.
  4. Catra relives the scene in her nightmare.
  5. Emily replays the scene for Scorpia.
  6. Hordak hopes to face Entrapta on the battlefield, like all the other princesses.
  7. Scorpia explains it to the princesses.
  8. Hordak is shocked to hear she’s not with the princesses.
  9. Double Trouble explains it to Hordak.
  10. Entrapta mentions it in S5.

But yeah, I TOTALLY SEE HOW YOU COULD MISS THIS.

Antis really say that Entrapta friendzoned Hordak (I will not even go into how sexist that word itself is), as if she would not look at him like that and say “Imperfection is beautiful” to him and smile at his picture. Antis clearly never watched the series.

Seriously how can you reach this hard just because in your mindset every male appearing person is a Incel.

What if Catra actually has a harder time than Hordak after the war?

If Hordak moves into Dryl, a neutral kingdom used to living in terror, he just has to show a minimum amount of decency and everyone will be like “Wow, he’s not as monstrous as I imagined - and less chaotic than Entrapta!” And they’ll still be too scared to mess with him, which is how he likes it.

But Catra’s not that scary on her own, and she’s with people who rule with an image of goodness rather than fear. Living in Brightmoon, which she terrorized for years and sort of killed the queen? Yeah, Glimmer and Adora will try to defend her, but they can’t stop everyone from giving Catra the stinkeye without getting tyrannical. And they can’t keep a constant enough watch to stop the servants from spitting in Catra’s food.

Hordak’s Outbursts

So I actually had a Reasonable Discussion on twitter of all places and it got me thinking about why I’m not bothered by Hordak’s angry outbursts in the show, when I would never put up with that sort of thing in real life. That’s when I realized...it’s because I’m not just relating to Entrapta in those scenes, but I’m also relating to Hordak.

I’m not a warlord (I swear, I’m not!) but I am a semi shut-in who struggles with emotional outbursts and meltdowns linked to my autism. If someone broke into my space and started messing with my stuff, I would definitely yell at them. If I was trying to hide a life-threatening secret, I would probably get very emotional as well. I’ve never hurt anyone the way he has, but there are times I have been a toxic person because of my mood, circumstances, and mental state. And considering where Hordak comes from, I project that he actually feels a great deal of shame for having such intense emotions, which is the thing I relate to most of all. It’s something I will be working on all my life, but I’ve been there. One of the things that helped me was getting a diagnosis. Finding studies on my issues and people who struggle with the same things.

I doubt Hordak encourages that type of behavior among his subordinates. If a Force Captain broke as much tech as he does they would probably face Dire Consequences. It’s a rare thing that his twisted moral compass can allow him to understand is not cool.

No one’s obligated to forgive me for past behavior (though, most people have.) I’ve never seen Hordak demanding or expecting forgiveness from anyone. He doesn’t expect anyone to even like him. He’s all about pushing people away so they don’t discover his weakness, not roping them in to his personal issues.

But just so we’re clear, I would never attempt to conquer a small planet or put a cat in an atmospheric variable remover. (maybe a human though...🤔)

Hordak Astrology

This was originally a response to an ask, but Tumblr wouldn't show it in the tags, I guess because of external links? So let me try this again...

I think Rae Geiger said he’s a Virgo, which I was hesitant about  because it’s not the most compatible with Entrapta’s Aquarius. (even  though my own parents are Aquarius/Virgo and have been married for 30  years...🤔)

Since Entrapta is an air sign, how about we make Hordak a half air sign too by making him a Virgo-Libra cusp? The fussiness of a Virgo combined with the navel-gazing nerdery of a Libra.

(I know “gentle” is pushing it, but he is a lot less handsy than Prime and - uh - roughness with electronics doesn’t count!)

Hordak Virbra confirmed. He’s the most stylish clone because he was born (✌️born✌️) on the  “Cusp of Beauty”! Virgos are neat and Libras are messy... that’s why the  Fright Zone is an organized junkpile!

Don’t ask me how Western sun signs apply to a character grown in a vitrine on a spaceship in a completely different galaxy.

I mean, all the princesses have star signs and they didn’t have stars when they were born.

You know who I want to see interact? Hordak and Perfuma.

She could call him out for what he did to the Scorpion kingdom (because Scorpia wouldn’t) and ruining the environment (which fortunately can be magically fixed). He could call out her woo-woo Autism Speaks Entrapta-leashing ways. Throw in a bunch of references to the masterpiece “Flowers for Hordak” and some sort of happy resolution with their girlfriends. 🌺👿🕊️

Now there just needs to be a contrived situation to force them to hang out.
