A part of me really hates the hyper-misogynistic societies we get in so many fantasy books (*cough cough* Sarah J Maas) and one thing I love so much about The Empyrean is the gender equality in their world.

At Basgiath, Violet is targeted due to her size and her disability, but never for being a woman. The same goes for the queer characters in the world—they’re just accepted for being who they are. This is so important to me because I read fantasy to get away from the real world. I don’t read it for the main characters to have to deal with the same issues as I do in real life.

(I know Rebecca Yarros is not the only author to write a fantasy world like this, but my blog is a good 75% Empyrean-focused so I’m using it as an example)
