Blocking agathario shippers who hate on Wiccan is my new pastime. You’re going to hate cause a character who has been a popular queer hero in Marvel for almost 20 years gets attention and is finally in the MCU? A character that queer people have wanted to see on screen since the MCU started and before you decided to watch AAA cause you heard about your ship being a thing? Using some pretty problematic rhetoric when discussing him in a way that makes you come across just like the incels out there? Ignoring why his inclusion is such a momentous thing for queer people? Goodbye.

One of the things I love about Buffy is that it presents knowledge and research as an absolutely vital part of the process of world saveage. So much of the show is dedicated to the characters sitting around doing research. And that’s pretty rare. Usually if research is a plot device in these kind of shows, it happens off screen. Which does kind of make sense on a storytelling level - it’s not usually that interesting to watch people look stuff up. But I really like that BtVS finds a way to make it interesting, not only because it leads to a lot of great group scenes, but also because it foregrounds the value of educating oneself about something before engaging with it. Which, you know, is an excellent value to foreground.

This post was very much inspired by this tweet.

... - . -. -.. . -.-.

uhh?

In 1947, an British flight from Buenos Aires, Argentina to Santiago, Chile reported their status over Morse code as "ETA SANTIAGO 17.45 HRS STENDEC". That last word is nonsense, so the tower asked for clarification. They repeated: STENDEC. STENDEC.

They were never heard from again. 11 people vanished, apparently along with their plane, and the only clue is that last word.

And no one knows what the fuck "STENDEC" means.

the problem with everyone becoming a reviewer and essayist now is that, plainly and gently, a lot of these people are not smart enough for the position

actually what really fucks me up is that if chuck is the writer and the winchesters are his favorite story, ie. the story that the universes he creates revolve around fulfilling, then castiel's part in the story was to raise dean. just that. chuck says every other version of cas continued to obey, and we know that cas was originally meant to be written out of the show (presumably killed?). so in chuck's version he was no longer relevant to the story.

so castiel as a character was both, meta-narratively and in-universe, created specifically for the purpose of raising dean winchester. he was always created *for* dean. he exists because of dean.

I literally just reblogged this and @ilarual just reblogged it from me but ffs these tags:

“This is what Shakespeare would have wanted.”

“Shakespeare wouldn’t have wanted this.”

No! You’re both wrong! Shakespeare wanted one thing and one thing only. To sell tickets.

If people spend money at the Globe theatre and don’t steal his bones then his ghost is happy

“Good friend for Jesus sake forbeare, To dig the dust enclosed here. Blessed be the man that spares these stones, And cursed be he that moves my bones.”

Shakespeare’s actual grave. He put a curse on anyone that tries to touch his bones. That’s what Shakespeare wants. Buy tickets and don’t touch his bones.

I know people see me as an animator and artist but I almost went into the genetics field and it continues to be a huge interest of mine so I will NOT stand for Alphafold slander so here comes my UHM actually-- UHM ACTUALLY the Nobel prize for physics was given to the developers (one being David Baker, an extremely prolific and influential biochemical engineer who I don't have time to gush about) of AlphaFold, a revolutionary and incredibly advanced computer learning program that can predict the shape of proteins, and thus their function, based on sequences alone, which, I'm not sure if people know, but has been a pipedream within the biochemical engineering field for like 40 years.

In theory, you could use this program alter and reverse engineer proteins and effectively make anything you want AND the program can even predict the mechanisms of said proteins in a way that rivals actual testing, meaning we could have a future where animal testing isn't needed.

Some are even hoping that this program can be used to solve the antibiotic resistance crisis, the microplastics crisis, and make vaccines more accurate and faster.

So, no, it is not bad that the Nobel price went to the developers of this potentially revolutionary program.

I may kid around on tumblr a lot, but I have a bachelor's in Biology and a Doctorate of Pharmacy. Protein folding was some of the stuff that would most break students brains. Even just the phrase "now flip the chair" for simple basic ring structures gives me a mini moment. THIS is the kind of thing AI should be used for - analytics and quantitative- Not generative (scraping artwork off the web and making an amalgamation). It's something that could potentially solve sooo many problems related to health and healthcare for folks.
