Sulemio is one of the most popular anime ships of this decade. It is the first openly queer, CANON relationship between the protagonist and her love interest, of whats essentially Asia's Star Wars. It brought thousands of new fans into this legacy francshise, and is also the case of one of the funniest and clumsiest attempts at corporate censeroship of LGBT rep (and for anyone whos wondering - no, they werent "decanoninzed", literally eveyone since then from the staff refers to them as wives).

Sulemio are a married gay couple in one of the most popular anime of 2022-2023, in a country that still hasnt legalized same sex marriage... Do you understand how BIG of a deal they are? They may not have as many fanfics as Destiel, or have been around for as long as them... But thier cultural impact WORLDWIDE, not just on tumblr, cannot be uderstated

Ngl im interested in like, a "journalist/other student/outside pov" view of all the shit that happened in Anticassia. Like, even the Holder system is extremely fucking weird to think about in a fictional setting– what if it was actually real in your reality??? Like, "Trillionare uses outdated duelling systems for his daughther's hand" that's batshit insane. And sulemio's lovestory is even MORE insane (but in a good gold way). Country girl accidentally becomes the fiancee of a beautiful and intelligent daugther of a trillionare, holy fuck, that's a plot of a Hallmark movie. Hell, do people like, screenrecord the duels?? Some people has got to be doing that because I sure as hell would. Imagine just being a random ass student learning to be an accountant or some shit, you're like "Wow! I finally got into the best school in the whole galaxy!! I'll make sure to study hard and make lots of friends so I don't waste this opportunity :)" and then the year you got in is the same year g witch happens.

Nothing about that was a mistake.

Gundam: The Witch from Mercury has got me invested like no weekly show has for years, with like only Peacemaker coming close. Sulemio is the first anime ship I've had to rival Kyosaya in my investment. Even beyond the main couple, I'm actually making an effort to remember the minor characters' names and keep track of their own arcs. Every episode feels like a weekly event, and I often have a lump in my throat when the ED hits.

It's not without its own flaws, but goddamn, there is just so much care and effort to even the smallest of details to make this show as good as it possibly can be, and the results have been spectacular.
