remember: the ‘holy’ white doves are just white rock doves, aka the common pigeon!

Doves are just pigeons with white privilege

Also can we talk about how STUNNING their irredentist feathers are?

This post made me finally look up whether Australian crested pigeons are also doves, and I didn’t quite understand the wiki page but I think the answer is ‘yes’.

You guys are gonna go ham when you hear about fruit doves

Important things to know about Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID)

- It is not schizophrenia, bipolar disorder or borderline personality disorder.

- It is the result of severe childhood trauma.

- The identities of someone with DID are called different things. Alters, parts and others to name a few.

- There can be as few as 2 alters or into the hundreds with the average number being in the teens.

- Alters are not hallucinations or characters and ignoring them or telling the person to “snap out of it” will not make them go away.

- Although for some with DID the goal of treatment is to integrate alters into one whole identity many with DID feel this is not the right path for them and rather work on cooperation between alters to live as a team. Both of these are acceptable forms of recovery and it is up to the person with DID what path they want to take.

- DID is found in 1-3% of the population (possibly even more) making it more common than schizophrenia and not as extremely rare as many people believe.

- People with DID (or any mental illness) are statistically no more likely to commit any type of crime, violent or not. They are however more likely to be the victim of a crime.

- The “evil alter” trope seen in fiction is not accurate and alters that hold trauma or anger are much more likely to hurt themselves than anyone else.

- Most people with DID don’t have to live their lives in inpatient facilities and can still live good lives despite experiencing different types of struggles than people without DID.

can we change that last 1 to

-most people with DID don’t have to live their lives in inpatient facilities

-whether or not someone with DID has to live in care indefinitely they can still live good lives despite experiencing different types of struggles than people without DID

30 Days of Character Facts

Day 9

The tengu “bark” is a sound pulse that can reach between 154-160 decibels, enough to cause hearing damage. That said, due to the fact it is a pulse more than a constant noise, the risk people face lays more with the air pressure or the tengu gutting you like a fish while you’re stunned.

It’s actually impossible to measure how many fucks a corvid give because there is no device sensitive enough to register such a tiny amount.

science/animal side of tumblr… explain to me the birb thing

Tail Pulling is a behavior noted in many corvids. The practical application is to create a distraction that will allow the birb to make off with the target’s food. Imagine being in the lunch room and a large fellow has a Twinkie you covet. You can’t just take it from him because he’ll defend his Twinkie. But if you thwap him on the back of his neck and then dash around to snag the Twinkie while he investigates, you stand a decent chance of enjoying spongey goodness. This is basically that in birb form.

Except corvids don’t only do this as a distraction. Sometimes they seem to just being doing it to mess with other animals/birbs. But to use my lunch room analogy, there are times you might thwap someone sneakily on the back of the neck just for amusement. Primates exhibit behavior that appears to be just be annoying other animals for amusement. Given how intelligent crows are, its not unlikely that this is a manifestation of an innate desire to just fuck with someone else for the fun of it. Such as this from the link above:

THANK YOU FOR THE BIRB KNOWLEDGE

BECAUSE IT IS FUN

This speaks to me on a molecular level.

birbs just wanna have fun

Sorry to hijack a little, but to put it bluntly, corvids are also pretty BALSY. They are more than prepared to harass other huge birds of prey which could deal them a lot of damage. There’s plenty of cases of corvids ‘riding’ other birds as well. It’s often to harass the larger bird out of the area, but as @red3blog said, they quite often (in layman’s terms) enjoy fucking shit up for fun.

‘Where the hell is the seatbelt on this thing?’

I mean they deserve a medal for having such huge bird balls imo

Literally no fucks are given by corvids. Ever.

I haven’t seen this post in ages but it’s my fave corvid post.

Intelligence is rooted in how much of a dick you can knowingly be.

The Bearer – Inari

A protector and provider to farmers and common folk, Inari left an island of their own creation and traveled to Illthdar when a distress signal was sent from the Goddess Vvekw. Hoping to offer their aid, they were not expecting to find themselves near powerless upon arrival. The limitations on magic being what they are, Inari does best to offer their assistance, but their habit of keeping secrets and withholding vital information is proving to be the undoing of many.

The Banished – Date Toshiiro

Stripped of his title and exiled from his home, Toshiiro’s choices were to enlist in the order or starve. Once a high lord and now a commoner with an attitude, he hasn’t made friends easily. With a chip on his shoulder the size of the mountain he was born on, he is by his own admission a work in progress. Forgetting a life is never easy, and ghosts of the past have a way of haunting us forever.

The Chaos Maker – Seth Stormbringer

A half-blood that arrived in Illthdar as a child, Seth endured a trial by nature the likes of which nightmares are made of. Forced to struggle on his own in the wilds of new and terrifying land, it was considered a miracle he survived. Caught and dragged kicking and screaming to Las, Seth tried to make a new life. He adjusted, but storms are always on his horizon and as things get worse, so too do they.

The Wanderer – Lerki of Goldbirch

Born to a nomadic tribe of Venin, Lerki is not one to stay still. Coming from a culture that bows to the will of the elements, he’s finding life difficult in a place that does not bend with the wind. Known for making poisons and rumored to be insane, he is mostly avoided. With his thoughts always faraway, it’s easy to underestimate him, but wise not to.

The Assassin – Tundra

Cocky, headstrong and from a planet beyond Earth, Tundra has seen stranger things than Illthdar. Raised to be a perfect solider for a shady organization, he was always taught that having emotional attachments was a weakness. In a world that cares less for him than he does for it, he’s finding it increasingly hard to pretend like his actions and the people around him don’t matter.

With several neat and folded pieces of cloth balanced on his good arm, Date stood in the hallway. His eyes, he kept directed towards Vyxen’s slipper-clad feet. “Tengu have feathers to keep warm,” he pointed out, voice a whisper. “These are a poor substitute, but they are better than nothing.”
“Oh, okay, great,” Vyxen responded, collecting the quilted robes from him. His manner of speech was closer to what she was used to, but the body language was a far cry from Date Toshiiro. The whole thing felt unnatural, and it tempted her to yank a feather out his head, if only for the reaction. “Thanks.”
He mumbled and bowed once in reply, backing away before turning to go back down the hallway where, she assumed, the men and Inari had taken up residence.
She had a picture in her head of him being a proud and haughty Prince before he came to Las. She never expected him to get on his knees and beg as he had the day before. Looking how he acted, so out of character compared to the image in her mind, it occurred the first and second impressions weren’t right either.
Here, there the class-system was alive and well. Servants scurried from place to place, silent if not unseen. They had all but set fire to the whole town to make them fly in from above, risking the lives of their own people, just to ensure one man wouldn’t take the trail below. She hadn’t missed the fact no one refuted there was a torture room in the basement, either.
They world shaped those who lived in it, so what did that make Date Toshiiro?
