The two of them rose high into the sky. The stranger with slow and powerful strokes of his huge and mighty wings, and the little bird, flapping furiously with her tiny wings trying to keep up, shouting out. She flew up ever higher and higher. “Goodbye my pelican friend. Thank you for all the kindness you showed me, I’ll never ever forget you! Goodbye my friend.”
And so high they flew that the bangs and the explosions grew quieter and quieter. And the giant flashes of light that once filled the entire sky now looked like a magic and beautiful flower bed, flashing and changing colour, far, far beneath them.

A Sky Full of Kindness by Rob Ryan

Book Summary: Two songbirds eagerly anticipate the arrival of their first child, and as they tend to their nest, they can’t help but worry about becoming parents. It’s the generosity and support of their avian friends and neighbors that confirms the world awaiting their unborn chick is indeed full of kindness.

schitt’s creek cast talking about what it was like to shoot “simply the best” on siriusxm radio (january 2019)

interviewer : speaking of an emotional moment, “simply the best”… this show can make you laugh so hard and then that moment, weeping, just full weeping and i think anyone who saw that scene and who watches that relationship between patrick and david and loves them so much, so how was it shooting that scene?

noah : it was pretty wild, it was one of those days that i had marked in a calendar for a long time and was sort of fretting about, no pun intended [laughs], for a long time and actually earlier in that season when these guys [catherine and dan] had performed the number, there was a little trick that i picked up from catherine which was if you’re doing a live performance, shoot the audience first if you can, because then it’s the first time for them to see it and they don’t have to act like they’re seeing it for the first time. and for me selfishly i could have a couple of runs at it before we were putting it down and so that ended up happening and that was really great. but i feel like the payoff of that moment was in large part because of all of the work that this young man, daniel levy, has done making himself up to be this undatable nightmare…

dan : well it doesn’t take much everybody [laughs]

noah: but the payoff of that character having actually quite a sweet moment especially with the lead up of the premise of the open mic night being this sort of thing that was maybe not his first choice of a romantic moment and then having it actually go well

interviewer : and especially in that sweatshirt that he’s wearing

noah : a ball of flames… [laughs] a literal ball of flames

dan : one of the few times i ever wore color on the show, a specific choice.

eugene : that episode, i think, was definitely a turning point in how the show blossomed this year for the audience. it’s not just because of its mentions in several articles […]. it was just so beautifully executed, not only for the performance that patrick did on that number because i believe daniel, the only thing scripted on paper was…

dan : yeah that he sings like a very moving acoustic version of tina turner’s “simply the best”

eugene : right so the execution that noah gave on that number was amazing, the reaction that daniel had during the course of the song, going from embarrassment to realizing that he’s in love. and then the little icing on the cake is the gesture that catherine gave in her reaction with that little touch on the arm of david during the number. you know it was an amazingly moving scene.

catherine : i wasn’t even thinking of what i was doing and i was watching daniel as david and watching him allowing himself to be loved and it was just killer. i had to turn away, the most takes […] i mean it’s okay if you tear up a tiny bit near the end of the song in character but you don’t want to be [imitates sobbing]. i would look at daniel and thinking about david and about all i knew, being this separated mother from her child and everything i’ve heard about his dating was not happy sounding and then he has this beautiful young boy singing to him so beautifully, it was just killer to look at david’s face. and i turned around so many times and props brought over kleenex and then i tried to turn back without that look.

eugene : there’s actually a shot in the episode, that is a shot on noah from behind of you and david and you actually see you reach over and you’re grabbing a tissue and you put it up to your face and nobody would notice by looking at the scene but that’s what you were doing.

dan : it’s funny though because that moment where you touch my arm, in a lot of the feedback that we got, was for many people arguably the most meaningful part of the scene because for parents to see that kind of support, it doesn’t happen in queer relationship very often […]

catherine : well it was sincerely that, i was watching david, it had nothing to do with us and everything else, it really was as your mother watching you

#there was that one (1) scene where hes wearing a white shirt instead of blue and it is so jarring lmao my friend and i were rewatching and pointing out the blue shirt every time he came on screen so when he was wearing a WHITE shirt we panicked but his jeans were still blue so the crisis was averted

you mean when he wore david's colors (white at the beginning of the ep and black at the end)

and for the first time, david wore COLOR! orange, specifically! where blue and orange are opposites on the color wheel
