Campaign for Orlando victims is GoFundMe’s most successful ever

Equality Florida, an organization advocating for LGBT rights in the state, showed its support by setting up a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for the families of the victims. As of this morning, it became the fastest GoFundMe to reach $1 million.

And now it also appears to be the most successful GoFundMe campaign ever. As of publication, the campaign has raised more than $2 million for the victims’ families, just over what was previously listed as GoFundMe’s most funded campaign. 

If you wish to help, it’s not too late to donate. Equality Florida writes on the page, “Every penny raised will be distributed directly to the victims and their families.”

Currently, it stands at  $2,251,013–and the GoFundMe’s new goal is $3 million.

Wincon Friday Night Ghost Tour Sign-Up Post

Hello fellow winconners (and Orlando locals); it’s Ghost Tour time again! Our tour this year will be done through American Ghost Adventures, on Friday, October 17th at 8pm, and will run for approximately two hours. Here’s the information for the tour we’ll be doing:

Downtown Orlando Ghost Tour Your experienced guide will lead you through historic downtown Orlando and enlighten you with tales of Orlando’s shady past. Be entwined with unsolved mysteries, scandalous tales, and become an amateur ghost hunter as we take you inside some of these haunted buildings. Guests are issued ghost hunting equipment and you’re invited you bring your own equipment, too. You never know what your camera might catch and no two tours are the same…

This is a two hour walking tour that covers some of the haunted history and locations in downtown Orlando. We will have the opportunity to investigate the inside of some haunted locations as well.

Cost: $30 per person, $25 per person with a group of 10-19, $20 per person with a group of 20+ (Note: A $2 per person tip for the guide will be added to be paid at the time of signup. You are always free to tip more on the day!)

The tour leaves from Harry Buffalo Bar & Grill, which was recommended by the tour company as a popular place to eat (their menu is here). For those of you who would like to do a group dinner on Friday, this looks like a good place (lots of variety, vegetarian and gluten-free dishes, not too expensive). If you would like to sign up for Friday night dinner only, there is an option to do so in the Ghost Tour signup form! There is no cost to sign up for dinner.

As the hotel doesn’t have a free shuttle to downtown Orlando, I will be organizing transportation as well. Once people start signing up for the tour and I have an idea about our group size, I’ll post info about transportation costs, as well as departure time (once the con date gets closer).

To sign up, please fill out this form! You will receive specific details on how to pay once you’ve signed up, but you will have the option of using paypal or paying with cash on the day. Early payment is encouraged, because we need six confirmed participants to reserve a private tour. Also, that way you won’t have to remember to set aside money for the tour during the con, as it’ll already be taken care of!

Sign-ups will remain open until Wednesday, October 8th at 3pm EDT.
