“When you are in the middle of a story it isn’t a story at all, but only a confusion; a dark roaring, a blindness, a wreckage of shattered glass and splintered wood; like a house in a whirlwind, or else a boat crushed by the icebergs or swept over the rapids, and all aboard powerless to stop it. It’s only afterwards that it becomes anything like a story at all. When you are telling it, to yourself or to someone else.”

the gentlemens guide to vice and virtue is like the definition of don’t judge a book by its cover. I saw the cover and was like hmm cheesy love story w no plot? and then I read it and got an elaborate plot w necromancy and alchemy and representation

Science fiction and fantasy by Asian authors! A text list with Goodreads links is available below the cut.

My absolute favorites include Jade City by Fonda Lee, The Empress of Salt and Fortune by Nghi Vo, Zero Sum Game by S.L. Huang, The Poppy War by R.F. Kuang, In the Vanishers’ Palace by Aliette de Bodard, Sorcerer to the Crown by Zen Cho, Ninefox Gambit by Yoon Ha Lee, Forest of a Thousand Lanterns by Julie C. Dao and Girls of Paper and Fire by Natasha Ngan.

The first half of books is adult, the last is young adult.

This book is River of Teeth by Sarah Gailey, and I highly recommend it if “extremely queer heist story of double-crossing and hippopotamuses” piques your interest.

Honestly, I highly recommend it even if “extremely queer heist story of double-crossing and hippopotamuses” isn’t to your interest- my dad loved it, and he’s usually more Harry Turtledove/Eric Flint.
