For fans of Olrox who want more Indigenous Mesoamerican vampires, the mod highly recommends the novel "Certain Dark Things" by Silvia Moreno-Garcia about Aztec vampires fighting for power in urban Mexico City 🦇
“When you are in the middle of a story it isn’t a story at all, but only a confusion; a dark roaring, a blindness, a wreckage of shattered glass and splintered wood; like a house in a whirlwind, or else a boat crushed by the icebergs or swept over the rapids, and all aboard powerless to stop it. It’s only afterwards that it becomes anything like a story at all. When you are telling it, to yourself or to someone else.”

Harrow said, “Don’t leave me.”
“In darkness, we are naked. Our truest selves. Night is when fear comes to us at its fullest, when we have no way to fight it,“ Ead continued. “It will do everything it can to seep inside you. Sometimes it may succeed - but never think that you are the night.”

Monty for like all of the gentleman’s guide
the gentlemens guide to vice and virtue is like the definition of don’t judge a book by its cover. I saw the cover and was like hmm cheesy love story w no plot? and then I read it and got an elaborate plot w necromancy and alchemy and representation
Oh my god Percy preparing this whole speech and then Monty acidentally ruining it because he thought Percy doesn’t love him makes me cry

Science fiction and fantasy by Asian authors! A text list with Goodreads links is available below the cut.
My absolute favorites include Jade City by Fonda Lee, The Empress of Salt and Fortune by Nghi Vo, Zero Sum Game by S.L. Huang, The Poppy War by R.F. Kuang, In the Vanishers’ Palace by Aliette de Bodard, Sorcerer to the Crown by Zen Cho, Ninefox Gambit by Yoon Ha Lee, Forest of a Thousand Lanterns by Julie C. Dao and Girls of Paper and Fire by Natasha Ngan.
The first half of books is adult, the last is young adult.
This was so hard! I’ve been tracking and reading LGBTQA+ books for 10 years and picking 3 for each was tough! There are so many more I love so if you have specific ones you are looking for, or want more in these sub-genres you can totally ask me for recs. I’ll do my best.

Below undercut is the Goodreads links to these books:
What I Say: My favorite genre is alternative history
What People Hear: I like considering what would happen if the Civil War/WW2/Cold War ended differently
What I Mean:
This book is River of Teeth by Sarah Gailey, and I highly recommend it if “extremely queer heist story of double-crossing and hippopotamuses” piques your interest.
Honestly, I highly recommend it even if “extremely queer heist story of double-crossing and hippopotamuses” isn’t to your interest- my dad loved it, and he’s usually more Harry Turtledove/Eric Flint.
Queer science fiction and fantasy releases in February 2019!

beautiful book cover c1905 with gilt spider and bird design
as has been noted by quite a few followers.. a spider catching a bird in a web does seem a slightly curious choice of design for a book on insects..
