this will remain one of the funniest haikyuu scenes of all time. and it’s even funnier when you realize kagehina still failed after all that studying…they really are only built to understand volleyball 😭😭

Today I'm thinking about Kagehina's matching smiles once they finally accept their respective nicknames (the greatest decoy/the king of the court) that they bestowed upon each other

Kageyama who coined "the greatest decoy", and Hinata who helped Kageyama reclaim what was once a painful insult by recrowning him

It's the culmination of them helping each other accept something intrinsic to themselves. "You'll never be the ace" and "Deep down you're still a king". They're able to blow away each other's insecurities, instead turning them into points of pride.

(And also I like to think they're smiling at each other.)

i think people often forget that haikyuu started with hinata and hinata wanting to beat kageyama - like they get so caught up in nationals and wanting to win it. which is valid, they're a team we have been rooting for from the beginning like it's only natural we feel sad and crushed when they lose.

it's when people start getting extremely caught up in karasuno as a narrative, and get really dissatisfied when they lose nationals (which, they were never setup to win - but topic 4 another day) and argue that that the plot was left "unresolved"/it's bad writing, that it gets to me ...

when u rmbr that haikyuu was born out of hinata's need to beat kageyama and that is what we get in the end the whole story makes much more sense - this is a story about kagehina mainly and not karasuno.
