The reason Hufflepuffs and Slytherins probably get along best is because they both know what it is to be dismissed, the “evil” or the “throwaway” house.

A Hufflepuff knows acceptance as part of their founder’s creed, know to look for the best in people regardless of what others say or think of them.

A Slytherin knows how important it is to protect their own, to watch the backs of those they care for, who care for them.

Hufflepuff and Slytherin friendships are my HP bread and butter

hogwarts house christmas/winter aesthetics

Gryffindor: spontaneous snowball fights, the smell of cinnamon pine cones, obnoxiously blasting “all i want for christmas is you”, strings of popcorn on the tree, shreds of wrapping paper on the floor, getting tangled in twinkle lights, slipping on the ice, chasing people with mistletoe, laughing with tinsel in your hair, eating sloppy christmas cookies with a milk mustache and icing-stained fingers

Hufflepuff: piling marshmallows into hot cocoa, fuzzy socks, catching snowflakes on your tongue, crackling fireplace, sitting on santa’s lap, the smell of warm vanilla, jingle bells, freshly baked cookies, the christmas radio station playing in the background, door-to-door caroling, bulging stockings, lights reflected in the eyes of wonderstruck children, the happy sleepy feeling when Christmas day finally comes to a close

Ravenclaw: crisp sprigs of holly, white lights with red bows, the smell of cold air, the glitter of department store holiday displays, a quiet nativity scene, smooth blankets of powdery snow, neatly wrapped gifts with elegant bows, the chill of peppermint in your mouth, the fizzle and clink of champagne glasses, the smell of the heat when it kicks on

Slytherin: sucking on a candy cane until it gets sharp, the smell of pine trees, strategically placed mistletoe, the crunch of the snow under your feet, eggnog, carol of the bells, garland wrapped around the banister, dark chocolate truffles, flickering candles, the zing of the scissors when you curl ribbon, sitting in the dark with just the glow of the christmas tree

The Awesomeness of Hufflepuff

Me: Cedric Diggory was selected by the Goblet of Fire as the most worthy student of Hogwarts. He then proceeded to win (tie) the Triwizard Tournament fair and square, despite a Death Eater rigging it for Harry to win and Fleur and Victor both getting assistance from their cheating headmasters. Not to mention how he defended Harry (his opponent) against injustice done by his own supporters.
Me: Nymphadora Tonks let her very hair stand in rebellion of the world's expectations. She overcame the intense prejudice of the world and married a werewolf. She also worked undercover at the Ministry of Magic for the Order, then fought and died in the Battle of Hogwarts, despite having every excuse to stay out and stay safe.
Me: Pamona Sprout--the hero of Hogwarts who saved every single Petrified student when the Chamber of Secrets was opened.
Me: Ernie Macmillan stood up to the murderous Heir of Slytherin (or so he thought) to defend his good friend Justin, then admitted his mistake and apologized to Harry when he realized he'd been wrong.
Me: Susan Bones lost her ENTIRE family to Death Eaters over the course of the two wizarding wars. Yet she still chose to fight in Dumbledore's Army rather than succumbing to fear.
Me: The Fat Friar was executed for saving as many people as he could from the pox and was known for his willingness to give second chances, even after his death.
Me: Helga Hufflepuff was the only founder willing to teach ALL students willing to learn because give it a break guys, they're 11 years old.
Me: Hufflepuffs are loyal and true and fair and STILL manage to kickass against the traitors and the liars and the cheats.
