My first ever @carryon-countdown! I immediately saw this image in my mind when I read the prompt for day 1.
I had the ridiculous notion to spontaneously draw Simon and Baz in Barbie Halloween costumes. I spent some time considering who would be Barbie, and who would be Ken, but they both wanted to be Barbie.
This went back and forth for a bit, until Simon pointed out that "Barbie and Ken aren't even a couple really! Not according to Barbie."
"Unrequited love is tragic, Snow."
"Come off it, Baz, it's not a bloody love story, is it, and Ken isn't actually in love. It's all part of the role for him, yeah?"
"If you're working your way to a point, skip to it."
*heavy put upon sigh* "The story's about realizing your identity!"
*the eyebrow* (and a smirk) (Baz is totally loving this - you know he is)
"Sooooo. Which one do you identify with, Baz?" (wearing a huge grin, of course, because Simon knows Baz is loving this)
And thus, they both dressed as Barbie. Baz as Weird!Barbie, who doesn't fit in with the other Barbies. And Simon is Stereotypical!Barbie, held up as an idealized version of everything Barbie should be.
Not that I put a ton of thought into this or anything. >.>

I found the colour edition of the official inktober promptlist, and the prompt bounce was red, so of course I had to draw simon and his first possession of his own. Before I saw the colour edition of inktober, I was gonna draw Penelope for this prompt, because I thought it would be funny if I removed the “O” from bounce, so it would’ve said “bunce”

Also random note but I was originally gonna draw Simon with a more neutral and timid expression, and the fact that baz was just yelling at him and he just sat there and took it made me so sad😭
Good thing I remembered simon would never just take it without retaliation or a growl.
I really like this one!!!😆 i spent so long on this considering its just lineart but 🤷 I’m not behind so it doesn’t matter.
Anyways knight baz. Floofy hair baz. Added a bit length to his hair and gave him some more waves - i bet simon would pass away if he saw baz like that. Hed spend all his time convincing penny that baz’s hair is a plot to seduce women and drink because he’s obviously a vampyre (with a y bc its cotta)
After I did that sketch of Simon, I thought (naturally) that I'd sketch Baz. Simon was such a sweet character, showing up on the page of my sketchbook with little muss or fuss. Happy to be there.
Then there was Baz.
Fucking Baz. Baz, who couldn't just let me doodle him. Oh, no. No, I had to get him right. And he refused to be drawn the same way I did Simon, fairly carefree and loose-lined. Baz has standards. I barely got away with it being a sketch at all. Do you see how he's looking at me? Honestly.
I have to be done now, though. (No, you don't get a detailed jacket in this one, Baz. Sorry not sorry. Get back in my fanfic and we'll talk.)

I don't have much of a clue when it comes to how all this works. It all changed when my back was turned. I'm still in the Fangirl era. When did the default of fanfic.net become AO3? When did Tumblr replace forums? Are we still using deviantart? How did it all happen in the span of a decade? And how the fuck is it I'm thinking in terms of decades?
So. Yeah. I'm apparently attempting to do all the things I didn't do in my twenties because some "Real Adult (TM)" told me it was a waste of time.
At least I never told any of my students that. Ever.
So now I'm attempting to wrestle "my turn" back from the hands of time. Fanfic, fanart, doing shit for the fun of it..
... Though I still have to figure out how Tumblr works.
