Do you Remember?
Lauren carefully snipped a bit off of her- admittedly dead- plant. She just couldn’t bring herself to part with it. Rather absent mindedly she started to hum, placing the scissors down on the counter top. After a moment she stopped to pull out a cigarette. “Hey, Joey.” She lit up. “Did I tell you that I’m teaching Rosa to dance?”
She inhaled deeply, turning towards the stove, “Just like you taught me. All that ‘real dancing’ stuff.” She placed a hand on the edge of the stove, “Do you remember? I was cooking breakfast, and you got so worked up when I didn’t know how to 'really dance’… I refused to leave the pancakes alone, and the radio wouldn’t work with you right there.”
Lauren sighed, “You used your tie to pull me into a dance and you hummed… Something, hell if I remember. Then you eventually stopped humming. There was no music, but we kept dancing. And the pancakes burnt, and the smoke alarm went off.”
