Cowabunga Countdown - Leo Love
Leonardo the leader… where do I even begin with this one? Can we all just take a moment to remember how awesome Leo was in the 2003 series? I mean, dang.
A lot of people dislike Leonardo because he is “too perfect”, but, honestly, I feel like he’s the most troubled turtle on the team. He always has to face the pressure of leadership and he’s required to be the responsible one, but under all that I think that he’s really insecure about himself and his position in the group. Just like all teenagers, he strives to be perfect just to make his family proud.
I love how respectful and kind he is to others, and the way that he lives his life by following Bushido. Truth and honor are so important to him and that really shows in his personality throughout the 2k3 series; it also shows in the 2k12 show, just not as much.
He is such a good role model for the kids who watch TMNT and he makes us older shellheads or me at least really inspire to be better people.
I thought I was the only one who felt this way!! I adored Leo's characterization in the 2k3 series. He inspired me to show greater integrity and compassion in my daily life, and that really meant a lot to me back in middle and high school. More than any of the other turtles, his struggles seemed so vibrantly REAL to me, because they were the struggles of an ordinary teen trying so hard to do his dad proud and protect his brothers and make a difference in his own quiet way. His dark turn during the fourth season hit me so hard, and I rooted more intensely for his recovery than I think I've ever rooted for a character in fiction before or since (save recently, in regards to Frisk).
2k3 Leo gives me life.
