Wow. The patience, kindness and calm communication skills. Outstanding.

This made me cry. I wish all situations could be handled as perfectly as this

I just want to point out the core of what the diffuser did in this conversation

They recognized that the mother was also expressing a vulnerable truth about herself - that she felt like a bad mother because her child was expressing gender feelings she wasn’t equipped to help with - and met her where she was, a concerned parent with limited information - to point her where she should be heading, research and resources.

Im going to make more of an effort to stop reflexively pushing people away when they express biases and make more of an effort to hear the underlying fears when i can

“it’s easier to love ourselves when we feel loved as ourselves”

damn that is so  powerful though

“it’s easier to

love ourselves when we feel

loved as ourselves”

Beep boop! I look for accidental haiku posts. Sometimes I mess up.

I passed peer review! Thank you. I think these are important skills for everyone to learn. x

it literally could not be more straightforward

It literally doesnt make sence, both have the same value, they're both $30

I think the failure of many people to grasp an incredibly simple, barebones metaphor is demonstrating implicit bias very well

This dude straight up stated the fucking answer and still can’t understand it, because he’s expecting the answer to be his own views lmao

No im not expecting anything its just a badly frammed metaphor

Bro you said the answer. Both have the same value despite different sizes. It’s simple. Basic. Elementary.

But it never says that, it just asks you wich one is greater and the text ends there, wich leads you to thinking that one indeed has greater value then the other, and that the one with the greater value is the answear

It asks you which one has the greater value and what is the answer to that question?

Im not about to argue over a focken tit size metaphor

Never underestimate the lack of reading comprehension on this site lmfao

how to do it (asking seriously)

be aware of what you’ve done wrong. forgive yourself and learn from it rather than beating yourself up over it and thinking it’s just a part of you that can’t be changed. know that you can’t go back and undo it but also that in the future you can do better and not repeat the same regret. self hatred stemming from regret is hard to control, but it can be managed with patience and practice.

If you wouldn't wish it on your worst enemy don't wish it on yourself.

also take some time to reflect on whether you'd treat your worst enemy like a human being with or an inherently evil monster. don't forget to assess your view of morality and human nature.

oh this is a life saver

So these are both “Aw Fuck I’m outta real food” meals BUT ALSO:  if you’re learning how to cook, these are great “baby steps” meals to learn how to cook basics into something enjoyable without “wasting” anything expensive.  Though I maintain that even cooking screw-ups are valuable in terms of lessons learned.

Also they’re great for when you get absorbed in something and you realize your blood sugar is dropping and you need to make something Quick.

I don’t think of myself as a cook at all, but I looked through this list and was like “if you have [center] and [any item on a surrounding ring] how do you sit there thinking you’ve got nothing to eat?” Like, I buy a fair amount of staples knowing that I’ll be able to quickly assemble them into something tasty if I’m hungry and don’t have anything instant (or in a leftovers container because I made it earlier in the week specifically to eat for a week): butter, cheese, noodles, and more.

It still impresses people how I can go into random kitchens with no food in them and emerge with Filling Snacks for Five People. This is the secret: knowing how to assemble Cupboard Meals. And these charts are incredibly well-laid-out too!

The AI tech bubble finally bursting is going to be both catastrophic and very funny.

Like it’s going to be wild, it’s already starting to hit NVIDIA stock. The chain reaction will hit tech giants and everyone depending on them.

Line goes down.

It really is the perfect example of a bubble.

  1. Budding new technology shows the potential for promising new applications.
  2. Under late-capitalism, short-term profit always takes precedence over long-term gains because the assumption is that you can take the cash upfront and choose to A.) reinvest it into the original idea to make it a more viable investment, both by funding R&D and pulling more investors B.) run.
  3. Technology gets advertised, bought, and sold before any reliably useful applications can actually be developed. Pushing money into an unfinished technology does not mean it gets developed before investors want their return.
  4. Consumers and investors realize that without any viable applications, it’s a scam and they fell hard for it. The bubble deflates as investors try to minimize their losses. Those who took the money and ran reap massive profits from the misfortune they pushed on everyone else.

The nature of ai was ESPECIALLY seductive to investors because it promised to be the capitalist holy grail:

  • Just like crypto, it’s too new to have any sort of government oversight. Right-wing clowns are still convinced this is a good thing (“Why won’t the police help me retrieve my stolen jpeg?”).
  • Your “labor” would follow orders to the letter. You, wise, exalted executive, would never have your untrained artistic talent or unsolicited advice questioned again.
  • Most importantly, you could have employees you don’t have to pay. Paint the backdrop for a cinematic masterpiece with only a prompt! Use ai to ghostwrite a new romance novel seven days a week! Lay off your entire customer service department! The possibilities are endless!

The ai bubble wasn’t just a representation of its own overpromised potential, it also inflated every major tech corporation as they all expectantly awaited their first financial quarter with a 95% reduction in labor costs. Some of them prepared to lay off significant chunks of their workforce, expecting a fully automated replacement any day. But customer service chatbots are giving away free flights, some lethally unreliable books on mushroom foraging got published on amazon, and the wonka spectacular guy practically got a public stoning. It’s apparent (and more so every day) that the ai hatchling was pushed out of the nest without any feathers.

Keep seeing that post where OP starts like 'Thinking about...grieving the undead' and then adds on about like. Real life situations where people have not died but have left your life and you would have reason to grieve them.

All respect, that's an important concept, but that is not what I am thinking about when I read 'grieving the undead'.

No need to keep this in the tags, you're completely right about this scenario!

Making a list of random Russian words I think Heavy would say so y'all can stop putting "da" and "niet" everywhere.

  • "Ну" - an interjection, untranslatable.
  • "Так" - "so" - another interjection.
  • "Всё" - "all" / "that's all" - usually used to signify being done with something. "Всё, I'm tired, let's go home." Can be used in conjunction with past tense to signify an intention. "Всё, I left. " ("That's it, I'm leaving.")
  • "Ну да." - "Yeah, right." - sarcastic.
  • "Ну да, конечно." - "Yeah, right, of course." - very sarcastic.
  • "Тихо" - "quiet" / "be quiet" - can be used literally, but also has mild comedic potential. Use it when someone is making a point that is factually correct, contradicts your point, but also you kind of hate it. "I am pretty good at chess." - "You never won against Medic." - "Тихо."
  • "Куда?!" - "Where?!" - use when someone or something is moving in a direction you neither expected nor desired. For a more obscene (mat) version, see: "Куда, бля?!"
  • "Давай" - "let's go" - can be used in a variety of contexts, including but not limited to: a suggestion, an encouragement, a sarcastic taunt, and a substitute for "goodbye". "Давай, see you later."
  • "Отстань" - "leave me alone" - said when annoyed by someone. For a mat version see "отъебись", for plural see "отстаньте" and "отъебитесь".
  • "Ладно" - "alright" - has a ton of uses. One I'd like to see is reluctantly agreeing to something you'd previously dismissed. "Ладно, you convinced me!"
  • "Короче" - lit. "shorter" - an extremely common interjection. Depending on context, can be translated as "so" or "to put it briefly". "The BLU team has a turret on the roof, a stickybomb ambush in the tunnel, and a Spy in our territory - короче, we are fucked."
  • "Хорошо" - "fine". Can be used instead of "ладно" or in the same sentence. "Всё, ладно, хорошо, you convinced me! Now отстань."
  • "Бывает" - lit. "Happens" - used when reacting to a relatable story, or when trying to comfort someone who just experienced an unpleasant but relatively minor thing. Not unkind, but not overly empathetic either. My sis said it when my cousin announced his breakup at the family table. Happens. Shrug.
  • "Надо" - "need" or "gotta" - used in response to someone protesting the inevitable. "I don't wanna wake up at 6 frickin' AM to do Soldier's stupid frickin' training!" - "Надо, Scout, надо."
  • "Жесть" - lit. "Tin" - not sure where the use comes from, but it's said in reaction to something shocking and almost always negative. "His head blew up. Жесть." Not a rule, but I would use it with a period instead of an exclamation mark, for emphasis.
  • "Ужас" - "horror" - same context as "жесть", but worse. Can also be sarcastic. Can also extend into a full sentence: "Какой ужас!" - "What terror!".
  • "Стой" - lit. "Stand" (verb, imperative) - wait, hold on, hold up a minute, etc. See "стойте" for plural. "Подожди"/"погоди" (plural "подождите"/"погодите") is very similar and literally means "wait".
  • "Спасибо" - "thank you".
  • "Пожалуйста" - "please". Can also be a response to "thank you".
  • "Всегда пожалуйста" - "always please" - a very lovely response to "thank you", basically means you're always ready to help.
  • "Не за что" ("for nothing") and "на здоровье" ("for health") - two more nice responses to "thank you".
  • "Будь здоров" - lit. "Be healthy" - "bless you", like when someone sneezes.

Will add more later.

THESE ARE THE LITTLE EVERYDAY RUSSIAN PHRASES I'VE BEEN MISSING!!!!!

I saw a very blunt Instagram comment today that told a writer, "AI is going to steal your job soon. You may want to choose something else." It was so nonchalant and casual, like what was just said wasn't heartbreaking to hear.

Can we writers just make a pact just to... not quit? Can we not give in so easily? Can we actually fight to keep our professions and continue to share our own original work? I will never expect writing to be my main source of income, but that does not mean I'm so willing to give it up for the sake of some robot.

I seriously would not worry... First of all, in order for AI to steal anything from anyone, we'd have to develop AI first, and we're nowhere near doing that. (What we have now is basically what Ted Chiang calls "applied statistics," or what others call "enhanced autocomplete.") And writing, as a practice, contains hundreds of tasks that require human creativity. Seriously, don't believe the hype.
