When the caretaker has gotten the badly bleeding whumpee to medical attention, and there’s nothing else they can do to help, so all they can do is wait. The caretaker not realizing that they’re covered in the whumpee’s blood until one of their friends takes them to clean up, and the sight making them feel nauseous. Their friend getting them cleaned up, and then sitting with them and letting the caretaker lean on them while they wait for news about the whumpee. The caretaker dozing off on their friend’s shoulder, and their friend letting them sleep until they get news, because the caretaker clearly needs the rest.
When the whumpee is unconscious for days, and the caretaker barely leaves their bedside during that time, too worried to let them out of their sight. The caretaker not really caring for themself at all while the whumpee is unconscious, and their friends trying to help, but not really being able to make them take care of themself. The whumpee waking up after a few days, and the caretaker being incredibly relieved. The whumpee pointing out how exhausted the and unwell the caretaker looks, and the caretaker finally agreeing to go take care of themself when they’re sure the whumpee will be alright, only to pass out when they stand up to leave. The caretaker’s friends rushing to take care of them, and having to reassure the whumpee that the caretaker will be alright, and is just exhausted.
When the whumpee has been rescued and cared for, and is tucked into bed, finally getting some solid sleep, and the caretaker can't keep it together anymore and breaks down on a friend’s shoulder. Their friend holding them close and stroking their hair as they reassure the caretaker that things are going to be okay, that the whumpee is safe now, and on their way to recovery.
When the caretaker has to take care of several whumpees at the same time, and they barely have time to take care of themself because they’re so busy. The caretaker neglecting sleep so they can make sure the whumpees are all ok, and barely getting a moment sit and relax, because someone always needs help. The caretaker barely managing to care for all the whumpees until they’ve recovered enough to care for themselves, and then the caretaker collapsing, and all the whumpees having to work together to care for the caretaker, because none of them have recovered enough to care for them alone.
When the whumpee nearly died, and the caretaker refuses to let go of them for more than a few seconds, and the whumpee doesn’t object, because they’re too badly hurt to be out of bed anyway. The caretaker taking days before they can even let then out of their sight for more than a few minutes, and then nearly falling apart when the whumpee has to go somewhere without them.
When the caretaker sits watching over the badly hurt whumpee for more than 24 hours, making sure they’re alright until the rest of their team can get there, even though it means neglecting themself. The rest of their team arriving to find the exhausted caretaker still sitting by the whumpee’s bedside, barely even able to keep their eyes open. The team quickly realizing that the caretaker’s been taking care of the whumpee the whole time and ignoring their own needs, and one of the team taking over the caretaker’s place by the whumpee while the rest of the team coaxes the caretaker through a quick meal. Them then getting the caretaker to change into some pajamas, and guiding the practically asleep on their feet caretaker to bed. The caretaker falling fully asleep the second their head hit the pillow, and their teammates gently tucking them in before going to check on the whumpee sleeping in the next room.
When the whumpee gets hurt, but they have to look after one of their teammates who’s hurt worse until the rest of the team can reach them. The whumpee using any medical supplies they have to care for their teammate, ignoring their own wounds, and sitting up with them at night as much as possible, just so they could be sure they didn't take a turn for the worst. Their team eventually finding the two of them, and getting the wounded teammate inside the transport, but the whumpee’s legs giving out when they try to follow, and them collapsing. Their teammates immediately surrounding them and looking them over, only to discover a nasty infected wound that the whumpee had barely done anything to care for, because they were too busy making sure their teammate survived until help arrived. Them getting the whumpee into the transport, then rushing to get to proper medical attention, because they now have two people who desperately need it.
When the caretaker has to care for several whumpees, and they end up not getting anywhere near enough sleep because caring for that many hurt people takes up so much time. The caretaker pushing through it as stoically as possible anyway, until it gets to the point where they can't any longer, and the mostly-recovered whumpees end up caring for the caretaker, tucking them into bed and bringing them food. The caretaker protesting that they’re fine and that the whumpees should be resting, and the whumpees all ignoring them as they do everything they can to make sure the person who took care of them when they'd needed it is also taken good care of.
When the whumpee and the caretaker are stranded in the middle of nowhere, then they get attacked by a wild animal, and the whumpee gets hurt defending the caretaker. The caretaker getting the whumpee to whatever shelter they can find, patching them up the best that they can, and feeling terrible about the whumpee getting hurt protecting them. The whumpee, even though they’re in a lot of pain, realizing that the caretaker is upset and telling them that they were glad they had managed to protect them, even though it meant getting hurt. The caretaker still feeling sort of guilty, but ignoring it so they can work on getting them out of there and to safety, and the whumpee realizing this, but deciding to talk to them about it later when they’re safe.
