When the caretaker, who lives with the whumpee, comes home after a long day, but the whumpee doesn't greet them when they come in (even though they usually do). The caretaker calling for them, and searching the house, and not finding them, until they hear sobbing coming from one of the closets. The caretaker going and looking in the closet, and finding the whumpee curled up, crying and shaking. Them gently getting the whumpee’s attention, and then holding their arms out to them in an invitation for a hug. The whumpee glancing up at them with tear filled eyes, and then curling up in the caretaker’s arms. The caretaker still having no idea what's going on, but just cradling the whumpee close and stroking their back, knowing that they can ask later, and that right now, the important thing is making sure the whumpee gets comfort.
When the whumpee is exhausted and has hurt their ankle, but they’re still trying to get out of bed. Their teammates standing and having a conversation, having no idea how to keep them there short of sitting on them, but the youngest one just leaving the room. The rest of the team following the youngest curiously, and seeing them just crawling into bed with the whumpee. The youngest then curling up against the whumpee’s side, hugging them, and then going to sleep. The whumpee being torn between being annoyed at the youngest for making it so they can't get up without waking them, and enjoying the cuddles. The rest of their teammates watching from the doorway, and the whumpee glaring at them, then reaching down to stroke the youngest’s hair, then letting themself fall asleep too.
When the whumpee just finished a fight, and they think they’re fine, but then one of their teammates hugs them, and pain explodes from their ribs. The whumpee making a pained noise, but being too exhausted to try to pull away, and slumping in their teammates arms. Their teammate being so startled that they almost dropping them, but managing to gently lower them to the ground as they ask the whumpee what’s wrong. The whumpee gasping out something about their ribs, and their teammate lifting the whumpee’s shirt to find the start of what will become some dramatic bruises. The teammate being so worried that they immediately scoop the whumpee up as gently as possible, and carry them off to find a medic to help them.
When the whumpee and the caretaker aren't talking because of an argument, and the whumpee gets captured by the whumper. The whumpee getting rescued by the caretaker and the rest of their team a few days later, and thinking that the caretaker still won't want to talk to them. The caretaker surprising them by hugging them the first opportunity they get, and the whumpee breaking down crying, realizing that the caretaker was far more worried about their wellbeing than the stupid fight they’d had. The caretaker proceeding to fuss over them for a few days as they start to recover, and then the two of them talking about their fight once the whumpee is feeling up to it.
When the whumpee is rescued from the whumper, and taken to a hospital to have their injuries treated. Them thinking that they’ll be alone when they wake up, but instead they wake up surrounded by their friends. The whumpee still being out of it enough to admit that they didn't expect them to be there, and their friends immediately protesting that of course they were all there, they care about the whumpee. The whumpee breaking down crying, and their friends crowding around them and gently hugging them and petting their hair, doing their best not to hurt them as they try to comfort them.
When the whumpee’s team goes to rescue them, and they find them curled up in the corner of a cold cell, shivering. Their teammates immediately rushing to the whumpee, and one of their teammates pulling off their jacket to wrap around them. The whumpee leaning into their teammate’s touch, seeking out warmth, and the strongest teammate scooping them up and cradling them close. The whumpee clinging to them almost desperately, and their teammates rushing them out of there so they can get them somewhere warm and safe.
When the whumpee shows up at the caretaker’s front door, looking like they can barely stand anymore, and as soon as the caretaker reaches out to put a hand on them to steady them, the whumpee just leaning forward and slumping into the caretaker. The startled caretaker immediately wrapping their arms around the whumpee to steady them, then gently steering them inside and closing the door without letting go. Them half guiding, half carrying the whumpee over to the couch, and gently pushing them down to sit on it, then pulling back to check them over as they quietly ask what’s wrong. The whumpee not answering, and just letting the caretaker check them over as they lean against the back of the couch. The caretaker quickly grabbing a first aid kit when they only find minor injuries, and patching them up gently. The whumpee dozing off while the caretaker works, and the caretaker deciding that the whumpee was probably just exhausted, and getting a blanket and covering them before sitting down to watch over them while they sleep.
When the whumpee is finally safe and all their wounds have been treated, but they’re still an exhausted, emotional mess. Their teammates deciding to have a sleepover, and creating a blanket pile so they can all curl up together. One of the whumpee’s teammates carrying them to the pile, and as soon as the whumpee is set down, them curling into whoever is closest. That teammate wrapping their arms around them, avoiding putting pressure on any injuries, and stroking the whumpee’s hair. The whumpee drifting off to sleep within a few minutes, and one of their other teammates spreading a blanket over the two, making sure the whumpee won't get cold.
When the whumpee hesitantly goes to the caretaker after getting hurt, and they shyly ask the caretaker to patch them up. The caretaker privately being overjoyed that the whumpee finally came and asked them for help, and immediately moving to help the whumpee. Them patching the whumpee up gently and efficiently, and then getting them settled somewhere to rest. The caretaker then giving them a gentle hug, and telling them that they’re so proud of them for finally asking for help, instead of trying to handle it alone like they had in the past.
When the whumpee is in pain and they’re completely exhausted because of it, but their shoulder is still dislocated, and the caretaker has to pop it back into place. The whumpee starting to cry when the caretaker tells them, but not arguing, and the caretaker doing it as quickly as possible, because the sooner they get this done, the sooner the whumpee can rest. The whumpee nearly passing out when the caretaker pops it back into place, and the caretaker steadying them and pulling them into a gentle hug. The whumpee burying their face in the caretaker’s shoulder, still crying, and the two of them just staying there for a few minutes before the caretaker helps the whumpee to bed.
When the whumpee isn't used to people caring about them or comforting them, so when the caretaker finds them crying and immediately hugs them, they have no idea how to react. The caretaker holding them gently and rubbing their back until the whumpee relaxes and starts to cry harder, then staying there and whispering comforting things to them until they calm down. The whumpee ending up falling asleep in the caretaker’s arms, too worn out from crying to stay awake, and the caretaker carrying them to bed. The whumpee waking up a few hours later to find the caretaker waiting at their bedside with a glass of water for them, and asking the caretaker why they’re being so nice. This question breaking the caretaker’s heart, and them telling the whumpee that they deserve to be cared for, then hugging them again.
When the whumpee is finally rescued from the whumper, and the caretaker is patching them up. The whumpee starting to cry a few minutes in, and the caretaker stopping and trying to comfort them, thinking that they’re crying because of the pain. This only making the whumpee cry harder, and it taking a few minutes for them to be able to choke out that they’re crying because the caretaker is being so gentle. The caretaker almost starting to cry at that, too, and just holding the whumpee for a few minutes before they start to patch them up again. The whumpee ending up falling asleep before the caretaker is done, too worn out from the crying on top of everything else to stay awake, and the caretaker finishing patching them up as quickly as possible, not wanting to disturb the whumpee’s rest.
When the whumpee and their team are doing a training exercise in a cold, snowy area, and the whumpee gets very, very cold. The whumpee not mentioning it to any of their teammates, because they’ve only been on the team for a short time, and they don't want to be an inconvenience. One of their teammates noticing them shivering, and slowly becoming more and more out of it, and telling the leader that the whumpee needs to get somewhere warm. The leader ending then training for the day, and as soon as they’ve all gotten inside, them going over to the whumpee and asking if they’re ok. The whumpee trying to brush off their leader’s concern, but their leader seeing just how out of it they are, and noticing that the whumpee is barely even shivering anymore. The leader rushing them over to sit down somewhere comfortable, and the rest of the team helping them get the whumpee’s winter gear off before the leader wraps them in their arms. The whumpee being too cold and out of it to protest, and their teammates wrapping the two in blankets, then one teammate going to make whatever hot drink they have on hand. The leader settling in to hold the whumpee for awhile while they warm up, and as the whumpee curls into them, the leader deciding that they need to have a conversation about the importance of being honest about problems as soon as the whumpee’s recovered enough.
When the whumpee wakes up from a nightmare, but they decide not to go to the caretaker and ask for comfort, so they just curl up in a ball under the covers and cry instead. The caretaker happening to be up to get a glass of water, and hearing them, even though the whumpee is trying to be quiet, and going to investigate. The caretaker knocking on their door quietly, and the whumpee trying to silence their sobbing, but being unable to. The caretaker becoming more concerned when they don't get a reply from the whumpee, and slowly opening the door and slipping into the room. Them seeing the whumpee, curled up and shaking under the blankets, and immediately moving to see if they’re alright. The caretaker gently asking the whumpee what’s wrong, and the whumpee admitting that they had a nightmare. The caretaker wrapping them up in their arms and telling the whumpee to just come to them for comfort next time. The whumpee trying to protest that they don't want to wake up the caretaker, and the caretaker telling them that they’d rather be woken up then let the whumpee go through this alone. This just making the whumpee cry harder, until they eventually cry themself to sleep in the caretaker’s arms. The caretaker then carefully getting them both into comfortable sleeping positions, and spending the rest of the night sleeping with the whumpee in their arms, so the caretaker will wake up if there are any more nightmares.
When the whumpee finally opens up about what happened while they were with the whumper, and the caretaker just sits there and listens, letting the whumpee explain at their own pace. The whumpee breaking down crying in the middle of their explanation, and the caretaker trying to tell them that it’s ok if they need to stop or take a break, but the whumpee insisting on finishing telling them. The caretaker wrapping the sobbing whumpee in a warm, loving hug as soon as they finish explaining, and the whumpee crying themself to sleep in the caretaker’s arms. The caretaker crying quietly, too, devastated by what the whumpee’s been through, but determined to do everything they can to help them now.
When the whumpee has been in pain for hours, and there’s nothing else the caretaker can do about it, so they just cradle the whumpee in their arms and try to comfort them. The whumpee being exhausted from being in pain for so long, and dozing off in the caretaker’s arms, their face buried in the caretaker’s shirt. The caretaker being very careful not to wake the whumpee up, and gently stroking their back or playing with their hair to soothe them back to sleep whenever they stir.
When the whumpee is stuck in the rain on a cold, windy day, and they can't make it somewhere warm on their own, so they have to call the caretaker. The caretaker driving to pick them up, and rushing the soaked, shaking whumpee into the car as soon as they see them. The whumpee leaning into their touch, and being too out of it to do more than let the caretaker guide them where they want them. The caretaker draping a jacket over the whumpee as soon as they’re in the car, and desperately wishing they’d thought to bring a blanket or some towels as they drive home. Them quickly getting the whumpee inside, and proceeding to help them into dry, warm clothes, and then settle them down on the couch. The whumpee curling up against the arm of the couch, wrapped in a warm blanket, and sipping the tea the caretaker brought them. Them wanting the caretaker to come hug them, because they’re so cold, and the caretaker is so warm, and the caretaker somehow realizing what the whumpee wants. The caretaker coming over and wrapping their arms around the whumpee, who leans into them, reveling in the warmth and comfort.
