apparently, even meninists have a hard time finding out who is a fake meninist…
it’s almost as if they have no idea what satire is…
This is almost as good as birds rights activist.
Have you forgotten, a strain of madness runs deep in that family. His grandfather lost his mind. His father succumbed to the same sickness. Can you swear Thorin Oakenshield will not also fall?
#if i’m not mistaken…this is the first time bilbo ever hears about the dragon sickness#and at this point he and thorin aren’t even on friendly terms yet. bilbo still wants to stubbornly#prove to thorin that he’s no simple ‘grocer’ and thorin doesn’t quite trust bilbo..he doubts him#and yet…..bilbo keeps following thorin#despite the way thorin treats him and despite hearing elrond and gandalf’s words of doubt#and judgement…bilbo still agrees to help thorin#in fact he makes a promise.#bilbo gets to see the best of thorin..they come to trust and respect and care for each other implicitly#so when bilbo finally witnesses what gandalf and elrond were talking about..when he sees#thorin succumbing to the sickness..it hurts him to no end but he still chooses to do all he can for thorin#thorin put all his hope into bilbo so bilbo is going to do the same#he’s going to believe that thorin can fight this. he’s going to have faith that thorin is more than this.#and in the end he is right. bilbo knew it all along. it was thorin who didn’t realize it until the very end/(X)
Thorin Oakenshield will pass into legends…
I think that this is the closest we get to a Bagginshield-becoming-canon moment. Because Balin knows. And if Balin knows, I’m willing to bet every bit of money I have that the rest of the Company did too. Because for all of their roughness and seeming lack of civility, dwarves are an observant bunch. They often choose not to say anything, because they don’t like to interfere with other people’s affairs, but they knew. They saw the bond between their King and their Burglar, because how could anyone not see it? The way Balin’s looking at Bilbo, the slight smile that’s both happy and unbearably sad at the same time…it’s because he sees what could have been. He looks into Bilbo’s eyes as he tries to put his feelings for Thorin into words, and he keeps on smiling despite Bilbo not making any sense. The hobbit’s lack of coherency speaks more strongly than any pretty words ever could. Balin even ducks his head a little when Bilbo’s trying to say what Thorin was, his eyes softening in a way that just screams: “I know, lad. I know.” He knows that Thorin was Bilbo’s. Just as Bilbo was Thorin’s. Two halves of a whole. But Balin doesn’t say any of that, because that would also be acknowledging that Bilbo’s love is gone, and with it the chance for something beautiful. Bilbo knows it, you can see it in that brief, painful smile he gives Balin before departing. Saying it out loud would make it somehow more real, and so Balin’s look and Bilbo’s smile are the only acknowledgements of an unspoken truth, a heartbreaking realization that even a love as strong as Bilbo and Thorin’s wasn’t strong enough to fight fate, wasn’t strong enough to keep them together. BAGGINSHIELD: The ship that’s impossible not to ship, even though it makes you question everything good in the world and results in an inhumane amount of feelings. Now if you’ll please excuse me, I have a bathtub to fill with my bitter tears.
06. Bilbo finding the hidden door (The Desolation of Smaug)
"KEEN EYES." I always laugh at this scene because it's LITERALLY RIGHT THERE AND IT'S A GIANT MOUNTAIN THAT LOOKS LIKE YOUR GRANDFATHER HONEY YOU DON'T NEED KEEN EYES TO SEE IT. lmfao he's clearly just finding any compliment he can give to Bilbo
*concerned bilbo noises*

No, I have feelings about this scene, okay. Partially because of the role reversal—Arthur being the one to help Merlin get ready—but also because of the dynamic right here between them.
Arthur’s glance is not of the exasperated “this idiot can’t even dress himself” kind. It’s one that says: “Merlin is nervous before a battle that might cost his life and the lives of all the villagers, including his mom, and I really shouldn’t think about helping him get ready, but we’ve come this far, and he needs all the support I can give him.” And so Arthur is compelled to help Merlin, because he feels he can and must give him support—as the one who’s his senior, more experienced in battle, and the one who insisted on having a battle in the first place.
It might be the only time in the whole series when it’s not Merlin cheering Arthur on before some trial, but Arthur doing something similar to Merlin. For once, it’s not all about Arthur’s burdens, and Arthur can see that. Arthur catches Merlin at a vulnerable moment, and tries to help.
The gauntlet’s more or less by the by; Arthur doesn’t even look at it. His eyes are trained on Merlin’s face the whole time, even as Merlin avoids looking at Arthur. It’s an emotionally charged situation for both of them, but, in a twist on their usual dynamic, it’s Arthur reaching out and trying to make it better for Merlin.
It’s not necessarily a great romantic moment, or anything like that. But it’s a rare instance of reciprocity between them, and support that goes both ways. They are true equals here. I could have done with more moments of Arthur acknowledging Merlin like that.
Hold on, I just need to quote this entire thing because it’s still unreal to me.
What Abbington doesn’t particularly like is the tendency of some rabid fans — as alluded to in the premiere episode — who insist on concocting a romantic relationship where none exists; as, for example, between Sherlock and John. It’s especially worrisome to her when they make pictures of it and put them on the Internet.
"It’s one where you have to be very careful what you say to them," she says. "You have to be very careful of how you broach that. You can’t be too critical … you have to pretend that it’s not out there. But it’s on the Internet for everybody to see. It’s a phenomenon; it really is.
"I’ve seen some particularly explicit paintings of Martin and Ben. Let’s not say it’s John and Sherlock; it’s Martin and Ben, because you don’t see Basil Rathbone and his Watson. I don’t think it’s about the characters; it becomes about the actors.
"It’s just out there for everyone to see, and at some point, my son is going to want to Google his dad. It’s the sort of thing where, just because you can doesn’t mean you should. I had a diary when I was that age, and I wrote everything in my diary. The fact that you can now put it on the Internet and get really cross about it when people make a comment on it, it just makes me think, that’s interesting.
"Don’t put it on the Internet, then, if you don’t want somebody to comment on it. It’s immediately accessible, and it’s immediately public." [x]
I guess now we know how she really felt about the Caitlin Moran fanfiction drama. WON’T SOMEBODY PLEASE THINK OF THE CHILDREN?
(With the caveat that I take all written interviews with a grain of salt, and that I also worry about my kids and the internet (and I get that concern, I really do, even if the last thing I’m worried about is fan works), and that I wish people wouldn’t show any fan stuff to the cast/crew because they just get the wrong idea and it’s not FOR them)
This is just another in a long line of ‘silly fans and their johnlock fantasies’ and well, quite frankly, fine. Got it. Sorry for liking your show and the amazing relationship you developed, and getting on board the extremely fraught emotional cliffhangers you left us in. Sorry that you took a well known and beloved relationship and modernised it and made it sexy (and you did, you know you wanted it to be sexy) and then we found it sexy. Sorry, as a consumer, for buying what you were selling. Can I return it please?
But for god’s sake, don’t tweet Amanda Abbington hate because it will just confirm her belief that we’re all rabid fans.
I couldn’t agree more.
The idea that Holmes and Watson are doing it is nothing new, and has existed and discussed long before ‘Sherlock’ came to be.
The obsession with sexual relationships and sexual behaviors as well as the whole edgy, sexy, coat-billowing romanticism of their relationship - that’s something ‘Sherlock’ introduced. That’s the fucking idea behind making it modern and current.
Honestly, once the show airs its interpretation no longer belongs to any of the creative parties involved. I respect and cherish the work put in by every writer, actor, director, tech assistant etc., but the show is ours now. Your part is over, stop trying to dictate to me how I should watch your [great, but kinda gay] show.
As for googling your actor parents… I would be more worried about all the actual swearing than the porny drawings.
A friend of mine posted this today. I was shocked, disappointed and most of all very very angry. Not to mention confused, because I had been debating for a solid 5 hours whether to comment on it or not. I didn’t feel like starting a ‘war’ but the longer I ignored it, the angrier I got and the guiltier I felt. Because people will always continue to think like this if nobody ever tells them to stop and think for a second. Not reacting to this is giving people the power to feel like they are right and that way we’ll never put an end to this misogyny/anything else it’s called. This will probably ruin our friendship forever but in the end I’d rather have a friend less then knowing I let this happen without having said anything.
It may also be worth noting that he deleted my comment within one minute of me posting it.
This scene is so telling because it’s the only chance we get to see the effect that the separation from John has had on Sherlock. Sherlock is broken without John and Lestrade and Molly can see it. From here, we can inference that in all those hotel rooms where he worked to dismantle Moriarty’s web, Sherlock heard John’s voice even though he wasn’t there.
Sherlock is married to his work and his work, which he has worked on for most of his life, that he would kill and die for, has become John.
#married
#jawn how dare you order me around like that #actually wait no #i like it #i’ll play nurse for you #this involves costumes right #because you’re really gonna love my slutty nurse outfit #just sayin’
How did the supernatural fandom ALREADY get here?
Destiel to Johnlock: “We be of one blood, thou and I.”
i paused it at the wrong time
It looks like Sherlock is trying to take a selfie. He’s like, “JAWN, take a selfie with me!” and John’s like “What the fuck is a selfie? This is my wedding!”
^That comment just makes this better!
This is John’s face when Sherlock says “I’m your best friend?”. This is the eyes of someone who is confused and sad.
He is confused because he doesn’t understand how Sherlock wouldn’t know that John is not only his best friend, but that John returns the feeling. He is confused at how Sherlock has never seen the intimacy of their relationship, and you can see the small hint of hurt and concern in his eyes. Is their friendship nothing noticeable to him? How could he not notice it?
He is more so sad at not understanding how Sherlock knows every single detail about everyone he sees, and yet can’t see the obvious love John has for Sherlock [love can be interpreted as friendship, as well as romantic love, for shippers]. For a second, he glimpses into how being isolated and alienated for your entire life can change your perspective on everything. During his entire life, Sherlock has been wary of people and sentiment, because people have been wary of him, to such an extreme that it became bullying. That is why he always assumes the worst of people. He is a recluse (this is subtly admitted by him later on, when he agrees that Sholto and himself are the same. They are both recluses. [this is only one of the many things they share in common, along with their respect for John]). He tries to stay away from people the most as possible, so that he doesn’t have to live through more constant bullying, as he has experienced his entire life. That is one of the things that makes the Sherlock/John relationship so special. Sherlock let John into his life. He’s never had a best friend, and he can’t quite process it.
