Last summer, when arguing in court in favor of Senate Bill 206, a harsh law that would force at least one of Wisconsin’s abortion clinics to close its doors, a state official compared ending a pregnancy to buying a fancy car.
As a guy , it just hit me.
good.
Powerful & creative imagery
the food and education made me sad.
I have always been fascinated by these ‘world of 100 people’ things, I remember spending hours thinking through the ones on a poster at church when I was 9 or so. It really, really makes some really important stuff so blindingly clear, in numbers we can understand. And it should, I hope it does, inspire us to act.
Amazing post.
Rape Culture? What is this “Rape Culture” you speak of?
Seriously though, this is terrifying. God forbid I wear a skirt outside — I’m just ASKING to be raped if I do that.
The 58% statistic actually terrifies me more than any other. Suddenly change the word and you don’t care?
No one will ever be able to convince me that words hold no power.
this makes me sick to my stomach with anger and fear
in 1930 the average wages were $27,481* in 2012 the average wages were $44,321
in 1930 the average home cost $53,635* in 2013 the average home cost $289,500
in 1930 the average car cost $8,369* in 2013 the average car cost $31,352
but no you are probably right, it’s just twenty-somethings being lazy.

Knowledge is a seed; sow it.
Reblogging because I mentioned this study in a post the other day and someone reblogged & replied insinuating that I’d made it up, but I didn’t have the citation on hand right then. As I said then: rape culture is what teaches rapists that they aren’t rapists.
^ bolded for emphasis
never not reblog
And then there’s good ol’ America
This actually makes me so angry. The truth is right here and people see it and brush it aside. We really could make things better. But no, America apparently wants to suck forever.
You know, America, if we spent some money investing in education instead of making sure the ultra-rich were even more ultra-rich, we could *actually* be the exceptional nation that we pretend to be.
What does this infographic tell us?
Racism is institutional.

Makes me want to fucking cry
Rape, By The Numbers.
everyone needs to see this graphic
Boost.
crazy
I linked this to my guy friends who always use the excuse of “What about the false reports? It’s not fair that innocent men are accused of a crime they didn’t commit”
2 out of 1000. 0.02% Of all rapes are false.
And a percentage of false reports aren’t actually false at all. They come from people coming forth about their rape and then being pressured into “admitting” their lie by authority figures, family, peers, or the rapists themselves.
Why is this such a big deal like oh my god there are 10% more male speaking roles like oh my god men are oppressing women lets revolt. Stop. It’s not a big deal.

Are you FUCKING kidding me right now
I love how more than half dont understand what the definition of rape is and/or think that by changing the words around they can get away with it. See by changing the words to something equally horrible but not the word ‘rape’ they can feel better about themselves. I need a good derp gif, anyone got one?
yeah, like even if you change the wording, the words still say "force women to have sex." how is that better? it might even be worse, because "rape" is just a word, but "forcing someone to have sex" is the definition, and that makes it scarier.
that's like being asked if you'd "commit arson" and 58% of them saying "no, but i would burn someone's house down." it sounds even worse when you describe it by its definition and call it what it is. it's like they're admitting that it's a horrible thing to do and they would do it anyway.
Icaro Doria, a Brazilian man, working for a magazine in Portugal started this campaign using real data from the UN and flag images, he’s created whats known as Meet the World. The colors within the flags from its respective country are used to represent current, geographical relevant issues. Take a look.
This is kind of awesome.
this is so creatively important
Very powerful
