I don’t know the source for this otherwise I’d give it
but this is the most amazing solution to the biggest Harry Potter mystery
original source thanks to a lovely individual
But Harry saw Peter on the map when he was in Animagus form. That’s when Lupin took the map.
That only happens in the movies; in the books Lupin takes it from Harry when Snape almost caught him when Harry sneak into Hogsmede; Harry never saw Peter in the map in the books.
I’ve read this chapter yesterday and Lupin noticed Peter and Sirius’ names on the Map when they were both in animagi form so…
But Lupin knows their secret, so he’d see them, and Harry didn’t until he saw it in the shrieking shack. This is actually really neat
never loved a gif so much
this is kinda creepy tho
The story behind this painting is very interesting, though. The artist’s mother was very sick, so the house was always filled a suffocating silence. This painting depicts him wanting to scream, but having to be silent, hence the anguished expression. In the whole painting you see figures in the background, one of which is his sister.
by the time Edvard Munch painted The Scream, his mother (as well as one of his sisters) had died from tuberculosis. his father passed from a heart condition and his other sister was admitted into an insane asylum. while some people think this painting is a self portrait, it is lead to be believed that it is a combination of both Munch and his sick sister whose asylum was located near the environment of the painting.
some choose to believe that The Scream depicts the sounds coming from the local asylum while others think it depicts the psychological turmoil of dealing with insanity. either way, it is a truly haunting piece.

wow
I was curious as to exactly how Barbie’s face has changed across the 56-year span she’s been around.
Personally, I think the molds they used from 1987-1995 are the cutest, but I was still a little girl playing with Barbies at that time, so I may be a bit biased.
The 1962 one is obviously a repro? Like the face paint, sculpt and hair are definitely Mattel’s less than faithful attempts at reproducing the look…
1980’s Barbie will haunt my nightmares
Her head gradually gets shorter, wider, and rounder. This is interesting to me.
Abayudaya Jewish children and synagogue in Uganda.
The Abayudaya (Abayudaya is Luganda for “People of Judah”, analogous to Children of Israel) are a Baganda community in eastern Uganda near the town of Mbale who practice Judaism. They are devout in their practice, keeping their version of kashrut, and observing Shabbat. There are several different villages where the Ugandan Jews live… Their population is estimated at approximately 2,000 having once been as large as 3,000 (prior to the persecutions of the Idi Amin regime, during which their numbers dwindled to around 300); like their neighbors, they are subsistence farmers. Most Abayudaya are of Bagwere origin, except for those from Namutumba who are Basoga. They speak Luganda, Lusoga or Lugwere, although some have learned Hebrew as well. (x)
New HP canon and facts on Pottermore
Kingsley Shacklebolt is still Minister for Magic in 2014. He was elected after being ‘caretaker Minster’ following the Battle of Hogwarts.
——————–
Pius Thicknese apparently didn’t face any punishment after the Battle of Hogwarts, as he was under the Imperious Curse and not responsible for his actions. He’s omitted from the official Minister for Magic records.
——————–
The Potter and the Weasley families always just give their children the names they like, and it’s not for magical reasons.
Some wizarding families still follow the ancient practice of consulting a Seer to know their child’s future so they can name them appropriately. Though the Blacks were named after stars and constellations, which suited their lofty ambitions and pride.
——————–
Dolores Umbridge was born 26th August, she was a Half-blood (she had a Muggle mother - who she hated), she had a Squib brother (who she hated), her father worked for the MoM in the Department of Magical Maintenance (which she was ashamed of), and she could never find any man to marry her.
She had a Birch & dragon heartstring wand, and she was a Slytherin (not a shocker!). Most wizards just pretended to believe her lies about her lineage because they were frightened or intimidated by her.
The Death Eaters sensed she was as bad as their worst and so let her have more power in the Ministry under Thicknese. After Voldemort’s death she was tried and sent to Azkaban for the torture, imprisonment and deaths of several Muggle-borns (they didn’t survive their stay in Azkaban).
J.K. Rowling says Umbridge is on the same level as Bellatrix Lestrange and Lord Voldemort.
——————–
Azkaban (a place created by Dark Magic) was converted to a prison in the 16th centuary because it was abandoned, isolated and already infested by Dementors. It had been there since the 15th centuary, but had been built by an insane wizard who used it to lure Muggle sailors so he could torture and murder them. He had used concealment charms to keep it hidden the rest of the time, only after his death was it visible to wizards.
After the Battle of Hogwarts, Kingsley Shacklebolt purged Azkaban of Dementors and put regularly rotated Aurors in charge. There’s been no break-outs since.
——————–
Sybill Trelawney was born 9th March, she’s a Half-blood (Muggle mother), she has a Hazel & Unicorn Hair wand, she was a Ravenclaw, and when younger she had a very short marriage that ended after she wouldn’t take his stupid surname. She’s a 90% fraud as a Seer, she just plants the idea of things in peoples heads and they self-fulfill the prediction.
Before Hogwarts she got infrequent jobs (only ones she thought suitable for a Seer) by trading on the famous name of her Seer ancestor. Professor Trelawney felt inadequate which is why she lied about her gifts to everyone, why she has a drink problem, and why she didn’t spend time around the other more talented staff.

Rufus Scrimgeour was personally killed by Lord Voldemort
——————–
A number of past Ministers for Magic have descendants at Hogwarts or in the Death Eaters during the series - Rowle, Lestrange, Diggory, Parkinson, Flint, and Boot.
——————– Thestrals are only found in the British isles, Ireland, parts of France and the Iberian Pennisula. Other parts of the world have their own equivalents to Thestrals.
“If you can’t hold it, you take your ass to the men’s room and cry in private on the toilet. Like a man!“— Emerson, Pushing Daisies
This is an incredibly important scene because I believe this is the first time an MCU male superhero has cried. And Matt is not crying over the death of a dog, family member, love interest or cherished friend. It’s not an epic moment during battle or when everything he’s been fighting comes to a head. (Common examples of when it is acceptable for men to cry in media - see trope Manly Tears for more.) No, Matt is crying because he’s fighting with his best friend. Foggy, too, is crying because he’s fighting with his best friend. They’re crying because they care so much about each other and they feel so much. And it’s all expressed. Foggy feels deeply betrayed, but beyond that he’s overwhelmed with grief and worry over Matt. Matt finally is facing the fact that he personally hurt someone that he loved with his actions. And THEY ARE CRYING because of it.
I’m stressing this because crying over these “every day” events is not common for men in media. This is particularly important for Matt, who’s portrayed fairly traditionally masculine - physically strong and mentally stoic, reserved in his emotions. But yet, he cries when he’s fighting with his friend. And the narrative validates both his and Foggy’s crying. The scene is full of pathos and their fight is one of the more painful scenes on a fairly gruesome show. They’re expressing their feelings and talking it out and crying, and they’re not weak or any less badass for it. They are simply human for doing so.
I believe that these types of portrayals are very helpful in breaking down gender stereotypes, which is helpful for everyone. Men suffer from a lack of close and healthy male friendships where they can express themselves and be emotional, which causes not only them problems but society at large. Daredevil got this right and it’s important.
Okay but after seeing this I started doing it too and it’s amazing how many men I’ve run into bc they expected me to move
Gotta try it
I work (and walk) on a college campus. I’ve lost count of how many men I’ve smacked shoulders with.
Recently, I was standing outside my son’s classroom waiting to talk to his teacher. I stood on one side of the hallway, not even close to the center. At some point, a man came walking along. I was standing right in his path, but the hallway was empty, so I logically expected him to swerve around me. Instead he kept walking right toward me, got to me, and stopped, as if waiting for me to get out of his way. I didn’t; I just smiled politely at him. He finally walked around me, clearly annoyed that I hadn’t leapt out of his manly path.
Now I’m wishing I’d leapt aside, taken off my jacket and laid it on the floor before him, then bowed deeply and said, “My Liege!”
I also work at a college campus. I smack shoulders sometimes, but I find that if I stare straight ahead and follow the advice below, people get the heck out of the way.
Honestly this post changed how I carry myself when walking alone in public, or in a situation where I’m the one leading. People definitely move for the murder gaze.
Confirmed. I once had to rush back inside a convention hall as the con was closing in order to a retrieve a sick friend’s medication, and I didn’t understand why people in the crowd were jumping out of my way (literally—one guy vaulted a table) until I realized I was dressed as the Winter Soldier and doing the Murder Walk because that’s just how I walk in those boots. I got the meds, got out, and made a mental note.
I repeated the experiment later, wearing the boots but otherwise my usual clothing and mimicking the expression I thought I’d had at that moment. People parted like I was Charlton Heston.
I now wear that style of boots whenever possible. I recently had a man do a double-take as I walked by and ask me, politely, where I had served because I “looked like a soldier.” I’m not current or former military. I was wearing a flowy purple peasant top and looked as un-soldierlike as possible.
Moral of the story: wear comfortable shoes, square your shoulders, and walk like you’ve been sent to murder Captain America.
credit to little-ranting-college-boy for a lot of this even if its worded a bit differently. based on this post
Jonathan Nimerfroh: Semi-frozen waves roll ashore in New England
Plummeting temperatures have broken hundreds of winter records across the country - making February one of the coldest months in history.
But in New England, it has gotten so cold even the waves are starting to freeze.
These incredible photos of so-called ‘slurpee waves’ were taken by surfer Jonathan Nimerfroh in Nantucket, Massachusetts.
He took his camera out when he noticed the horizon looked strange - and then spotted the surf had turn slushy.
The stunning images were taken as snow and icy rain continues to cause chaos across the country - with states of emergency being declared in the South.
Neat.
neat. neat?!?! youre looking at day and night AT THE SAME TIME, don you realize thats been completely impossible until like the past ten years. To be looking at this is straight up INSANE.
neat.
you fuckin kidding me
Neat.

In London 2010, a Nigerian couple gave birth to a blue eyed, blonde, white, non-albino baby. DNA tests confirms the mother and father are the biological parents. The parents have no known white ancestors. The doctors best guess is either that the mother and or father passed on dormant caucasian genes, or this is a new genetic mutation never before seen. ok but hear me out- what about a lightning bolt scar that looked like real lightning?
I love this, the way it looks like his head was split open and then healed back jagged and wrong. Reminds me of how there’s a little bit of Voldemort’s soul hiding within that scar.
