i never see anyone talk about how growing up fat also often means growing up touch-starved

and how traumatizing it can be to have other people’s disgust projected onto your body so consistently & thoroughly

that you begin to feel like it’s predatory of you to even want the casual touch that not-fat people receive from their friends and family members, much less (later on) intimate touch from partners etc.

so not only are you being consistently deprived of this essential human interaction, but you begin to actually feel guilty for even noticing the lack or the suffering it’s causing you

Mark: Whether I’m gay or not has no reflection –

Owen: No, it does. Just listen –

Julia: I don’t think that you have ownership of horror of this crime.

Owen: Can I just say, I find this, I find this astonishing.

Julia: I’m not Jewish and I’m not gay, I’m not French, but I still am equally horrified by these crimes.

Owen: This was a – I’m being yelled at, which is incredible.

Julia: Stop talking so [we hadn’t do].

Mark: That’s the headline: ‘Isil wages war on gays in west’. Now you share that view, that basically this was deliberately targeted on one part of the community rather than the freedom to enjoy yourself no matter what your sexual orientation is.

Owen: What are you talking about?!?

Mark: I’m talking about the coverage in the newspapers.

Owen: It’s not some abstract, kind of, he just picked a random club out of nowhere. He picked a club because it was full of people he regarded as deviants. That’s why he attacked the club.

Julia: It’s a hate crime, this is an act of terrorism, it was an attack on gay people, absolutely, it was horrific. However, my mind guesses this man probably would be as horrified by me as a gobby woman as he would – genuinely, genuinely – this is the thing. We don’t know right now. We can speculate, but we don’t know how much of this is motivated by just his homophobia.

Owen: We heard from his own father about his revulsion – why are we trying to deflect? Why are you both pick-

Mark: We are not trying to deflect. We are trying to reflect what is being said by the authorities here and –

Owen: Can I ask, what argument are you trying to pick here?

Mark: I’m now going to quote from what The Telegraph is saying…’his father said…[he] may have targeted the gay community after becoming angry when he saw two men–’

Owen: ‘May have’? He did! Why are you saying this?

Julia: ‘After seeing two men kissing in Miami some months ago’ – he may have been angered by many other things since then!

Owen: I’m sorry. I just find this the most astonishing thing I’ve ever been involved with on television. If he’d walked into a synagogue, and massacred dozens of Jewish people, you wouldn’t be saying what you’re saying now.

Owen: This bizarre attempt to deflect from this –

Mark: We are trying to draw parallels in terrorist attacks on people who are being attacked whether they are enjoying rock music in Paris, whether they are gay people in Florida enjoying a night out.

Julia: I completely accept it, as [Mark] does, that it was a homophobic attack, but for me the issue is there are going to be homophobic people, there’ll be people who hate black people, or who hate gay people, or hate Jewish people. There are going to be people, who are lunatics, who are fanatics –

Owen: Who are “lunatics”! Stop using these words, Julia!

Julia: Is it possible for me to finish one sentence?

Owen: If you stop using words like “lunatic” to talk about homophobic terrorist attacks!

Julia: Well thank you. Whoever these people are, and whatever their motivations are, the key thing is we’re always going to have mad and bad people in the world.

Owen: Mad and bad people. Okay.

Julia: And the key issue is, that they can’t do too much or any harm. When you have free access to assault weapons in a country like America, then they’re able to put their hatred of other people –

Owen: Yes! Obviously!

Julia: – into effect, and do damage. That’s the issue for me.

(discussion between Mark and Julia on gun control and the U.S. …Julia: It is absolutely absurd, if America were not going to do something about gun control after Sandy Hook in 2012, if you’re going to watch six- and seven-year-olds being massacred and you don’t think you need to act, they are never going to act.)

Mark: There’s something else here in The Telegraph coverage, which I think we need to bring up, Owen, in relation to your point. And that is, I think that we’ve got at least a call from a spokesman for Stonewall saying that people would be feeling vulnerable, and basically indicating –

Owen: Oh, you’re going to have an LGBT voice talking about it. Interesting.

Mark: Sorry?

Owen: Nothing, carry on. Go on.

Julia: Owen, seriously.

Owen: I’ve had enough of this. I’m going home. Sorry. No way.

Julia: Owen, genuinely, we’re trying to have a civilized conversation.

Owen: I know you’re having it, I don’t want it!

Julia: I know you’re upset, you’re very upset –

Owen: Yeah, I am, I’m very upset. I’m very upset.

Julia: Everyone’s upset and angry about this, but storming off a TV set –

Why You Shouldn’t Support Donald Trump: Master List

I’ve probably missed a few things too.

Anti-Latinx racism

  • “When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best…They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.” (x)
  • Trump supported his claim that Mexicans are rapists by incorrectly citing an article claiming 80% of immigrants are rapists. What the article actually said 80% of women from Central America are victims of rape with coming to America. To which he responded “Well, somebody’s doing the raping! I mean, sombody’s doing the raping! Who’s doing the raping?” (x)
  • “Jeb Bush has to like the Mexican Illegals because of his wife.” (x)
  • Two brothers, inspired by Trump’s anti-immigration speech, attacked a 58 year old homeless Latino. “Donald Trump was right they need to be deported,” they said. When Trump heard about the incident he insisted that his fans were just “very passionate,” and “they love this country and they want this country to be great again.” (x)
  • “I’m leading in the Hispanic vote, and I’m going to win the Hispanic vote. I’m also leading in the regular vote.” (x
  • “I don’t think it’s a small percentage, it’s a lot.“ - When asked why he’s painting all 11 million undocumented immigrants as rapists. (x)
  • “I will build a great wall — and nobody builds walls better than me, believe me —and I’ll build them very inexpensively. I will build a great, great wall on our southern border, and I will make Mexico pay for that wall. Mark my words.” (x)
  • “Jeb Bush is crazy, who cares that he speaks Mexican, this is America, English!!” (x)
  • When Latino journalist, Jorge Ramos, tried to asked Trump questions about his immigration stance, Trump had him removed. As Ramos was being removed Trump told him to “go back to Univision.” (x)
  • “Druggies, drug dealers, rapists and killers are coming across the southern border. When will the U.S. get smart and stop this travesty?” (x)
  • “The Oscars were a great night for Mexico & why not — they are ripping off the US more than almost any other nation.” (x)
  • Michael Cohen, Trump’s right hand man who often speaks in his place, has said that Trump will have to win over Black voters because “other minority groups won’t support him.” “I’m talking about now like Hispanic coalitions that … will not support Trump. The ones that don’t like Trump aren’t even here legally and they can’t vote, so it doesn’t really matter, right? And I understand their point of view. They’re — they do not want to be asked to leave right? And go back where? Go back to their homes? You know they don’t want to. So I understand.” (x)

Anti-Black racism

  • “Laziness is a trait in the blacks. … Black guys counting my money! I hate it. The only kind of people I want counting my money are little short guys that wear yamakas every day.” (x)
  • “Our great African American President hasn’t exactly had a positive impact on the thugs who are so happily and openly destroying Baltimore!” (x)
  • “I have a great relationship with the blacks. I’ve always had a great relationship with the blacks.” (x)
  • “A well-educated black has a tremendous advantage over a well-educated white in terms of the job market. … If I were starting off today, I would love to be a well-educated black, because I believe they do have an actual advantage.” (x)
  • When a Black protester, Mercutio Southall Jr., shouted “Black Lives Matter,” at one of his debates Trump told the audience “Get him the hell out of here, will you, please? Get him out of here. Throw him out!” His supporters then attacked Southall and shouted racial slurs while kicking and punching him. As the protester was escorted out, the crowd chanted “all lives matter.” (x)
  • In reponse to the incident above Trump said that Southall was being “so obnoxious and loud,” and backed up the violence by saying “maybe he should have been roughed up.” (x)
  • “I have a lot of fans, and they were not happy about it. And this was a very obnoxious guy who was a troublemaker who was looking to make trouble.” -Still defending the violence Mercutio Southall Jr. experienced at his rally. (x)
  • He tweeted a false crime statistic report on his Twitter account that showed low crime rates for white Americans and extremely high crime rates for Black Americans. It said that white victims of murder is caused by Black people 81% of the time, when the number is actually 14% It also said that white murdered other whites at 16% rather than the true 82.3% The infographic was also accompanied by a Black man pointing a gun with a bandana over his face. The image used originated from a neo-nazi’s Twitter account. (x)
  • When Bill O’Reilly called trump out on his false statistics he said that he’s “probably the least racist person on Earth.” And rid himself of responsibility by saying he didn’t tweet that image he just retweeted it. And thought it was ridiculous that O’Reilly expected him to fact check every statistic. (x)
  • “Sadly, because president Obama has done such a poor job as president, you won’t see another black president for generations!” (x)
  • “And if you look at black and African American youth, to a point where they’ve never done more poorly.  There’s no spirit.” (x)

Anti-Asian Racism

  • “The concept of global warming was created by and for the Chinese in order to make U.S. manufacturing non-competitive.” (x)
  • “I know the Chinese. I’ve made a lot of money with the Chinese. I understand the Chinese mind.” (x)
  • “Who the fuck knows? I mean, really, who knows how much the Japs will pay for Manhattan property these days?” (x)
  • During a rally, Trump talked about making deals with Japan and China and used broken English and a cartoonish accent to immitate an Asian. (x)
  • Joe Choe, a Harvard student who calls out politicians on their inaccurate statement, was interrupted when questioning Trump with “are you from South Korea.” (x)
  • Trump admits that he may have implemented the Japanese internment camps. “I would have had to be there at the time to tell you, to give you a proper answer. I certainly hate the concept of it. But I would have had to be there at the time to give you a proper answer.” He then went on to defend it by saying that we do questionable things to win wars, and complained that we no longer win because of it. ““But you know war is tough. And winning is tough. We don’t win anymore. We don’t win wars anymore. We don’t win wars anymore. We’re not a strong country anymore. We’re just so off.” (x)

Anti-Native Racism

  • Trump made comments about members of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribe saying “They don’t look like Indians to me. They don’t look like Indians to Indians.” (x)
  • He spoke in support for the Washington Redskins name by saying “I know Indians that are extremely proud of that name. They think it’s a positive.” (x
  • Trump has stated that he would “immediately approve the Keystone XL pipeline,” if elected president. A project that interferes with sacred sites and water supplies for many Native people. (x)
  • Trump funded ads to stop casino from being built in New York. In the ads they said things like “The St. Regis Mohawk Indian record of criminal activity is well documented.” The ads used hypodermic needles and drug paraphernalia and asked “Are these the new neighbors we want?” (x)
  • Recently Mt. McKinley was changed back to it’s original name Mt. Denali, which is the name the indigenous people of Alaska originally titled it. Trump said that this change was a “great insult to Ohio,” which is where President McKinley was born and never even visited Alaska. He has pledged to change the name back to Mt. McKinley if he gets elected. (x)

Anti-LGBT

  • “It’s weird. You see these great players with these really long putters, because they can’t sink three-footers anymore. And, I hate it. I am a traditionalist. I have so many fabulous friends who happen to be gay, but I am a traditionalist.” (x)
  • “I’m not for gay marriage. It’s not an argument that’s been discussed with me very much. People know it’s not my thing one way or another.” (x)
  • “I just don’t feel good about it, I don’t feel right about it. And I take a lot of heat because I come from New York.” (x)
  • “I looked at her name, and somebody brought this up to me: ‘Jennatal.’ Those are the first letters of her name. And it’s ‘genital.’ And I’m saying to myself, ‘Hmm, that’s strange, could there be an ulterior motive?’” - On transgender Miss USA contestant, Jenna Talackova. (x)

Ableism

  • Trump mocked reporter, Serge Kovaleski, at one of his rallies. Kovaleski has arthrogryposis, a rare, congenital musculoskeletal condition that limits the movements in his arms. Trump imitated Kovaleski by holding up his arms and flailing them and used a mocking, incoherant voice. (x)
  • After backlash for mocking Serge Kovaleski, Donald Trump said that he didn’t make fun of him and didn’t even know the guy, despite meeting him throughout the years and outright saying “you gotta see this guy,” before making fun of him. He then claimed that Kovaleski was “using his disability to grandstand.“ (x)
  • Charles Krauthammer, a conservative critic, called Donald Trump a “rodeo clown,” Trump mocked Krauthammer for being disabled. Krauthammer is paralyzed from the waist down, and Trump said he could not believe that he was being called names by someone who could not even “buy a pair of pants.” (x)
  • The title of his newest book is called “Crippled America.”
  • Donald Trump has shown interest in appointing Michael Savage to head the National Institutes of Health a man who had this to say about autism: “I’ll tell you what autism is. In 99 percent of the cases, it’s a brat who hasn’t been told to cut the act out. That’s what autism is. What do you mean they scream and they’re silent? They don’t have a father around to tell them, ‘Don’t act like a moron. You’ll get nowhere in life. Stop acting like a putz. Straighten up. Act like a man. Don’t sit there crying and screaming, idiot.’” (x)

Islamophobia

  • He’s repeatedly said that mosques and Muslims in the United States should be surveilled, even to go as far as saying we should shut down all mosques. (x)
  • Trump was asked by a reporter if he would implement a database to track all Muslims to which he responded he “would certainly implement” that database. He denies saying this, even though it’s on video. (x)
  • He said that he personally saw “thousands and thousands,” of Muslims cheering, dancing, and burning flags in Jersey City when 9/11 happened. He lated clarified he saw it on television, but there is no proof to back up this claim. (x)
  • At a rally a man said to Trump “We have a problem in this country. It’s called Muslims…But anyway, we have training camps growing where they want to kill us. That’s my question. When can we get rid of ‘em?” Trump responded that he’s going to be “we’re going to be looking into that.” (x)
  • After some backlash Trump released a statement saying that he just meant they would be looking into the “Muslim training camps,” and that it “was referring to the need to protect Christians religious liberties as his previous statement says and nothing more.” (x)
  • He has proposed a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States including Muslim citizens who are currently abroad. (x)
  • When his proposed Muslim-ban was met with controversy he responded that “something has to be done,” and “What I’m doing is I’m calling very simply for a shutdown of Muslims entering the United States.” (x)
  • “The United Kingdom is trying hard to disguise their massive  Muslim problem.” (x)

Anti-Semitism

  • While giving a speech for the Republican Jewish Coalition Trump kept spewing Jewish stereotypes to the crowd. “"Is there anyone in this room who doesn’t negotiate deals? Probably more than any room I’ve ever spoken.” “I’m a negotiator, like you folks.” and “You’re not going to support me because I don’t want your money.“ (x)
  • “The only kind of people I want counting my money are little short guys that wear yamakas every day.” -Playboy interview

Sexism

  • His ex-wife, Ivana, said she was “violated,” by Trump during their marriage, and use the word “rape,” to describe a particular incident. She later said she didn’t use the word rape in a literal sense, but still says that she “felt violated.”   Michael Cohen,  special counsel at The Trump Organization, defended Trump by saying “You cannot rape your spouse.”  (x)
  • In response to unreported sexual assault in the military Donald Trump commented “What do these geniuses expect when they put men and women together.” (x)
  • “It’s certainly not groundbreaking news that the early victories by the women on ‘The Apprentice’ were, to a very large extent, dependent on their sex appeal.” - From his 2004 book How to Get Rich
  • “You know, it doesn’t really matter what the media write as long as you’ve got a young and beautiful piece of ass.” - From and interview in Esquire magazine
  • “I mean, we could say politically correct that look doesn’t matter, but the look obviously matters, like you wouldn’t have your job if you weren’t beautiful.” - Trump to a female reporter
  • When lawyer Elizabeth Beck requested a break from a 2011 deposition to pump breast milk, “He got up, his face got red, he shook his finger at me and he screamed, ‘You’re disgusting, you’re disgusting,’ and he ran out of there,” according to Beck. (x)
  • “There are basically three types of women and reactions. One is the good woman who very much loves her future husband, solely for himself, but refuses to sign the agreement on principle. I fully understand this, but the man should take a pass anyway and find someone else. The other is the calculating woman who refuses to sign the prenuptial agreement because she is expecting to take advantage of the poor, unsuspecting sucker she’s got in her grasp. There is also the woman who will openly and quickly sign a prenuptial agreement in order to make a quick hit and take the money given to her.” Trump’s 1997 book The Art of the Comeback
  • “If Hillary Clinton can’t satisfy her husband what makes her think she can satisfy America.” - Now deleted Tweet by Donald Trump (x)
  • According to New York Times columnist Gail Collins “During one down period, I referred to him in print as a ‘financially embattled thousandaire’ and he sent me a copy of the column with my picture circled and ‘The Face of a Dog!’ written over it.” (x)
  • Trump said that Arianna Huffington, founder and editor-in-chief of the Huffington Post, “is unattractive both inside and out. I fully understand why her former husband left her for a man- he made a good decision.”
  • Talking about Megyn Kelly at the debates: “She gets out and she starts asking me all sorts of ridiculous questions… You could see there was blood coming out of her eyes, blood coming out of her wherever.” (x)
  • About his own daughter: “she does have a very nice figure. I’ve said if Ivanka weren’t my daughter, perhaps I’d be dating her.“ (x)
  • “You know who’s one of the great beauties of the world, according to everybody? And I helped create her. Ivanka. My daughter, Ivanka. She’s 6 feet tall, she’s got the best body.
  • “I’ve known Paris Hilton from the time she’s 12. Her parents are friends of mine, and, you know, the first time I saw her, she walked into the room and I said, ‘Who the hell is that?’ … Well, at 12, I wasn’t interested. I’ve never been into that. They’re sort of always stuck around that 25 category.”
  • Gloria Allred represented Ms. USA contestant Jenna Talackova, a trans woman, and said that Trump needs to stop focusing so much on genitals after he joked about her client. He told TMZ “I think Gloria Allred would be very, very, very, very impressed with my penis. I think she would have a whole new image of Donald Trump.” (x)
  • “Excuse me, you dropped to your knees? It must be a pretty picture. You dropping to your knees.” Trump said in response to Brande Roderick on an episode of “Celebrity Apprentice.
  • Trump on women: “You have to treat ’em like sh*t.” – direct quote from New York Magazine.
  • “She’s not giving me 100 percent. She’s giving me 84 percent, and 16 percent is going towards taking care of children.” TIME issue May 2011

Global Warming Denial

  • Donald Trump has tweeted 44 times (and counting) about how climate change was a hoax because it was cold and/or snowy and he did this mostly in the winter.
  • “I’m in Los Angeles and it’s freezing. Global warming is a total, and very expensive, hoax!” - Tweeted in December (x)
  • “It’s snowing & freezing in NYC. What the hell ever happened to global warming?” (x)
  • “With the coldest winter ever recorded, with snow setting record levels up and down the coast, the Nobel committee should take the Nobel Prize back from Al Gore. Gore wants us to clean up our factories and plants in order to protect us from global warming, when China and other countries couldn’t care less. It would make us totally noncompetitive in the manufacturing world, and China, Japan and India are laughing at America’s stupidity.” (x)
  • “The concept of global warming was created by and for the Chinese in order to make U.S. manufacturing non-competitive.” (x)
  • “We should be focused on clean and beautiful air-not expensive and business closing GLOBAL WARMING-a total hoax!” (x)
  • “This very expensive GLOBAL WARMING bullshit has got to stop. Our planet is freezing, record low temps, and our GW scientists are stuck in ice.” (x)
  • “It’s freezing and snowing in New York—we need global warming!” (x)

More Bullshit

  • “He’s not a war hero. He’s a war hero because he was captured. I like people that weren’t captured, OK, I hate to tell you.”
  • “Let golf be elitist. When I say ‘aspire,’ that’s a positive word. Let people work hard and aspire to some day be able to play golf. To afford to play it. They’re trying to teach golf to people who will never be able to really play it.” (x)
  • Klan leader, David Duke, has given out his support for Trump as president saying Trump “understands the real sentiment of America.” “I praise the fact that he’s come out on the immigration issue. I’m beginning to get the idea that he’s a good salesman. That he’s an entrepreneur and he has a good sense of what people want to hear what they want to buy.” (x)
  • Trump wants to do away with birthright citizenship. When Bill O’Reilly told him that couldn’t happen due to the 14th Amendment, Trump said "Bill, I think you’re wrong about the 14th amendment and frankly the whole thing about anchor babies.“ He then claimed his lawyers found holes in the amendment and it wouldn’t hold up in court. (x)
  • Trump has repeatedly talked about “taking the oil,” from other countries and it is often repeated when he talks about his policies for the Middle East. He’s even said that we should take the oil because “In the old days, you know when you had a war, to the victor belong the spoils. You go in. You win the war and you take it… . You’re not stealing anything… . We’re taking back $1.5 trillion to reimburse ourselves. (x)
  • After John Oliver made negative comments about Donald Trump, he tweeted that he was asked to be on his show Last Week Tonight and refused his “very boring and low rated show.” However, Trump was never even asked to be on the show. (x)
  • He was actually one of the people mad about the Starbucks red cups not being Christmasy enough, suggesting we should boycott the company. He then said “If I become president, we’re all going to be saying, ‘Merry Christmas’ again. That I can tell you.” (x
  • He was one of the main people behind the “birther,” controversy - claiming that President Obama was not born in the U.S. He even said he had an “extremely credible source,” that told him Obama’s birth certificate is a fraud. He said he would reveal all his information he had when he had proof and nothing ever came of that. (x)
  • In general he falls into the group of people who believes there is a war on Christmas. “The word ‘Christmas’ – I love Christmas. I love Christmas. You go to stores now, you don’t see the word ‘Christmas.’ It says ‘Happy Holidays’ all over. Remember the expression, ‘Merry Christmas?’ You don’t see it anymore. You’re going to see it if I get elected, I can tell you right now! (x)
  • “We have to see Bill Gates and a lot of different people that really understand what’s happening. We have to talk to them about, maybe in certain areas, closing that internet up in some ways. Somebody will say, ‘Oh freedom of speech, freedom of speech.’ These are foolish people.” (x)
  • Not only does he not support raising the minimum wage, he also believes that the wages are currently “too high.” (x)
  • And finally these are his fans and this is how Ann Coulter introduced him at a rally in Iowa.

Honestly I tried to read the whole thing but I couldn’t get through because I became so angry I nearly smashed my phone. This guy is shit.

I read everything and god, my head hurt so much

Something we didn’t really tell the audience, but I knew in my own heart and mind, was that in her back story, Tauriel was orphaned when she was a young, young elf. She’s still a young elf — she’s only 600 — but at some point in her life, she was orphaned, and her parents were killed at the hands of an orc, or orcs (I’m not sure how many). And that influenced a lot of the decisions that I made for the character at the beginning of the film, and her attitude, her demeanor, her presence, her coldness, the anger that sort of seethed out of her was this need for revenge, this need for justice, this need to make things right in a world that had wronged her. And then as Kili enters her world, he opens up her heart and mind and her soul to the notion of innocence again. She sees innocence and purity in him, and she sees a spark of life that she hasn’t known since before her parents were killed, and it reminds her of the young elf that she maybe threw aside in her pain. In a weird way, it’s a coming-of-age story, and yet when we come of age, if we do it with grace, then I think in a way we return to some of the innocence that we held in childhood. In our maturing and our wisdom, we realize the infinite wisdom that children have in their idealism and in their passions. So I think it’s a beautiful arc for the character, and I was very excited to play it.
