Hello Tumblr community!

This blog has been started to document and share fundraisers vetted by @nabulsi, @el-shab-hussein, and Moh'd Ayesh. We felt it would help to create a space dedicated to this documentation process.

The fundraisers we are vetting will be added to this page as well as included in our google sheet.

We will continue to reblog and share on our personal blogs, and that will not change, but this blog will help better organize these fundraisers.

Please spread this as we'd like to start using this primarily to share newly vetted fundraisers.

i am raffling off a crocheted sweater for @wafans-blog's family fundraiser - deadline aug. 4

since waffaa's fundraiser has reached its goal (link), i and @brutaliakhoa decided to include waffaa's family's fundraiser!

to participate, you must donate a minimum of 5€ to her family's fundraiser and send me proof of donation through an ask or direct message. multiples of 5 will be multiple entries (ex. 10 is 2 entries, 15 is 3, etc.).

as of july 26th, the fundraiser is at $90 out of $80,000.

THE DEADLINE FOR THIS RAFFLE IS AUGUST 4TH, 2024! WE NEED TO HELP THIS FAMILY TO SAFETY. there are 9 days until the end of the raffle period, my aim is to get us at least HALFWAY TO 80K!

now more than ever, please vet gofundmes before you donate.

copy and paste descriptions into google to see if there are scam accounts reusing the same story, check to see if there are any images/updates on the fund with faces. go to the original blog, check if the post asking for help is only an hour old, or even less than that. refrain from donating if all it links to is a PayPal account, without any further confirmation of identity.

it’s horrible to say but it’s never been a better time for scam artists to exploit your generosity, when things seem so dire, and I’ve donated to campaigns before only to realise later that the entire story was stolen from an actual family in need. due diligence might take a few more minutes out of your day but at least you won’t be sending money to an opportunistic scumbag.

other places to find vetted fundraisers are the operation olive branch spreadsheet and also gazafunds.

I will say that while the aforementioned tips are generally applicable to vetting fundraisers, you cannot generalise with Gazans if their tumblr blog is only a few days or a few hours old.

Gazans on tumblr are making accounts for the express purpose of spreading their fundraisers because it is spreading amongst Gazans that tumblr is a safe place to do so.

They could often be making multiple blogs and even remaking after staff flags them as spam. But don't blanket assume that Gazans are scammers if they're on a new tumblr blog with no pfp or content.

I agree that until a fundraiser is vetted you shouldn't reblog it in case it is someone dishonest taking advantage of the circumstances in Gaza. But you cannot do the opposite and immediately assume they're a scammer. I'm seeing people harass Gazans sometimes who genuinely are people who just don't know how to use tumblr and are falsely raising red flags because of it.

I'd like to bring people's attention to @mohammedayesh's fundraiser. He's kindly asked me to share his story with my followers.

Mohammed is a university student whose studies were unfortunately cut short by the war, the same one that has ravaged and destroyed his home, uprooted his life, and thrust him into a life where he is struggling for survival.

He is trying to raise funds to leave the instability and danger he is facing every day and evacuate to Egypt. He wants to continue his education and live a life of safety and dignity.

You can donate to his GoFundMe, which is currently sitting at €4,488 out of €10,000.

Additionally, you can donate to his PayPal, which will go to supporting his family. He currently has just under €200, which he's using to spend on himself since he no longer has any source of income.
