finally watching Brazil, god Terry Gilliam just can't help himself

honestly it holds up much better than I expected; it's arguably too long and definitely self indulgent and you can take issue with it in a dozen ways but the experience of watching it still goes beyond the abstract concept of the script, I think it successfully gestures at a horror that is very real in the world and one way in which it works so well is that they never name it directly, in fact they can barely look at it, their gaze slides right off each time, it might be the one deft touch in a career of very heavy handed films.

Brazil is still a dumb name though, would have been fine for a short film based around the piece of music but seems silly here.
