I know this isn't the usual content I post here, but I really wanted to talk about this here.
Please listen to Ravish Kumar, an Indian journalist. He's carrying India's journalism on his back entirely for YEARS. Just like the US, the Indian media is mostly full of right wing propaganda, and labelling the opposition, and literally anyone else who criticizes the government as anti nationals, traitors, terrorists, and many others ridiculous names.
India is ranked #142 in the Global Press Freedom Index 2020. The media here always praises the government, hosting abusive and dramatic debates which promote communalism, casteism, sexism, and so much more. The opposition here has been silenced completely, by the media, mostly.
Ravish Kumar, who is in a channel called NDTV India, always speaks about various problems going on in India in his prime time shows on the channel. Issues like unemployment, casteism, various crimes, corruption, fake promises by politicians, rising covid cases, economic recession, sexism, poverty, scams, and everything which isn't shown in the majority of media channels- is shown to us by Ravish. He has also faced numerous death threats before by right wing nationalists because of fake news and fake videos about him circulated on social media. He still faces a lot of abuses and threats on social media and real life, but he still stands on his ground.
Ravish won the Ramon Magsaysay Award- which is also known as the highest journalism award in Asia- in 2019. In his award speech, he quoted, "Not all battles are fought for victory. Some are fought to tell the world that someone was there on the battlefield."
He also wrote a book called "The Free Voice: On Democracy, Culture and the Nation" which speaks about how press freedom is important to maintain a healthy and stable democracy. He continues to speak about the toxic and nationalist Indian media- and how the population is being brainwashed with propaganda, and are encouraged to discriminate against each other.
Let's learn more about India. India is facing a crisis about their media. Please share and do some research about this.
