Ae Fond Kiss, And Then We Sever by Robert Burns, sung by Gemma Hayes

Ae fond kiss, and then we sever; Ae fareweel, and then for ever! Deep in heart-wrung tears I'll pledge thee, Warring sighs and groans I'll wage thee. Who shall say that Fortune grieves him While the star of hope she leaves him? Me, nae cheerful twinkle lights me, Dark despair around benights me. I'll ne'er blame my partial fancy; Naething could resist my Nancy; But to see her was to love her, Love but her, and love for ever. Had we never loved sae kindly, Had we never loved sae blindly, Never met -or never parted, We had ne'er been broken-hearted. Fare thee weel, thou first and fairest! Fare thee weel, thou best and dearest! Thine be ilka joy and treasure, Peace, enjoyment, love, and pleasure! Ae fond kiss, and then we sever; Ae fareweel, alas, for ever! Deep in heart-wrung tears I'll pledge thee, Warring sighs and groans I'll wage thee.

Ballad

Forgive me if I laugh.  You are so sure of love,  You are so young  and I too old to learn of love. The rain exploding  in the air is love  The grass excreting her  green wax is love  and stones remembering  past steps is love,  but you. You are too young  for love  and I too old. Once. What does it matter  when or who, I knew  of love.  I fixed my body  under his and went  to sleep in love.  All trace of me  was wiped away. Forgive me if I smile,  young heiress of a naked dream.  You are so young  and I too old to learn of love.
