Hello! Since you asked for anons, can I share one of my favorite kinds of whump: unseen injuries. I have this idea in my head of Buck coming back to the firehouse with everyone, maybe thinking he overexerted himself or got a bruise, but that's basically nothing right? And he sits on the couch, talks with the team, but slowly gets more quiet and seemingly starts to nod off, and everyone is like, fondly not making a big deal out of it because it's been a big day, until one of them tries to shake him awake so he can go lie down somewhere more comfortable, and they all realise something's wrong. Really Wrong. (Bonus for them discovering a big red bruise under his shirt and realising that all this time he's been bleeding internally right next to them. Double bonus for Buck waking up and them all being in a guilt contest of who should have noticed first until someone (maybe athena) tells them that maybe no one is at fault here so if they could stop being idiots and hug now it'd be Neat)

ABSOLUTELY! THIS! I want this one right here!

The whump and angst of it is so good! Maybe them wondering why Buck didn't say anything and that poor boy's pain tolerance is just so skewed that he says, "I thought I just had a bruise." Cue the facepalming.

Someone write this please!

Do you accept noncon-type of prompts? Because if so.... imagine something happened during the time Buck was traveling, but he pushed it down and never told anyone. But when Maddie shows up she overheard him having a nightmare and once he's awake, she urges him to talk to her and he breaks down, admitting someone hurt him and crying in her arms.

That one hurts, nonnie! IDK if anyone will want to pick it up, but here it is! I personally have so many thoughts about Buck on the road for so long and alone in his travels.

(I'm tagging this with trigger warnings, so I'm very sorry if this comes across someone's dash unfiltered. There are so many different tw tags that I wasn't sure what to use!)

Just had an idea that I couldn’t not drop here.

Probie!Buck getting hazed because an older firefighter got jealous when Bobby let him try a rescue that the older guy usually would have done. He thinks a little teasing is in order, but when it doesn’t phase Buck, he takes it up a notch. Cue Bobby or Chimney walking into the showers to find the older firefighter and a couple of other guys forcing Buck under the spray of the shower head. Cold water is raining down on him while he’s fully clothed and he’s pushing back telling them to knock it off, but his hands have been restrained behind him and he’s helpless as they keep pushing him back into the stall.

Prompt: Athena is called to the scene of a homicide and nearly has a heart attack when the victim is a young blond male who is the near perfect doppelgänger of one Evan Buckley, just with no birthmark. It gets more horrifying when more bodies are found at the same location. Athena goes running to make sure Buck is safe. Firefam, especially Eddie are horrified and go into protective mode. Serial killer still gets to Buck, doesn’t expect to be met with absolute ferocity. Buck in beastmode. Buddie

NONNIE! I am genuinely wounded by this prompt. So rude of you to put such an idea into my head without a SIKE! and a link to an already existing story. 😭 Now this idea will live rent free in my head.

I love the idea of someone having that obsession with Buck and the fear that would come with that. Emotional whump at it’s finest! And with protective firefam to top it off? Someone write this!

hii so i dont know if you know any fics or just have some headcanons about like in prompts but i keep thinking about a flare up in Buck's bad leg like this scenario starts with something minimal maybe a bad landing in a rescue, and slowly getting more intense until he just collapses in pain freaking everybody out because yes he insisted he was fine a bunch of time through the day

Oooo I’ve definitely read some good flare up fics! Usually it’s just part of a longer one focused around something else, though, so I can’t think of any off the top of my head.

Thinking on it, it’s kind of an interesting trope for Buck when you consider what a flare up is. I know flare ups can be pretty bad, but I’m sometimes perplexed when some of them are written as intensely as they are in fics, and how common/often it’s implied they happen.

Someone close to me had a break and repair almost exactly the same as Buck’s (though he still has the metal hardware in his bones!), and even did the PT to get back into sports. Considering that Buck’s physical recovery was pretty rock solid, I’m not entirely sure that his flare ups would be that bad, but I’m also not about to discount what people have experienced with flare ups if they say it can be like that with an old injury. I just have an understanding that the typical flare ups we’ve seen in fics are more commonly associated with an ankle break, but it was actually Buck’s leg that broke, so some stiffness is a more likely flare up issue than swelling or random bouts of blinding pain.

Check out below the cut for more thoughts and a bit of a prompt!

Ooooh so, re: kidnapping--handcuffs bite, right? So bleedy wrists plus bloodthinners plus not allowed to reach out to the team even for help because lawsuit.

Oh oh ohhh, this is fun! But we do have to be realistic. Handcuffs can leave some bite, but for his wrists to bleed he’s got to be connected to something that can withstand his strength and be pulling on those like his life depends on it. Just some tightness and pressure won’t be enough. Not to mention that even if we do make him bleed, the wounds will only be so big, so they likely won’t bleed a life threatening amount in a short time, but you can make him bleed for a long time.

Not sure why he’s kidnapped, but I get a couple visuals. One is a shipping container. Buck’s got handcuffs that have been bolted into the wall of it, and he’s tried for hours to pull it out, but it’s no use. He chides himself for having pulled to the point of bleeding because there’s literally nothing he can do to stop it now. The cuffs are bolted too high for him to lay down and too low for him to stand. He’s forced to sit slumped against the wall. And when the doors to the crate finally open, he peers up into the light, blinking slowly and far too out of it from a combination of blood loss and dehydration.

The second scenario is the chain of the handcuffs hooked around something on the ceiling. Maybe he’s in a basement? Maybe this bad guy was bold and left him in a room upstairs in their house? His arms hang, and the blood runs down his wrists and arms from his weight alone. His arms are stretched above him and his weight falls entirely on his bare toes. He’s hanging limp when he’s found, unconscious at that point.

And when he’s finally being cared for in the hospital? He’s alone. Something inside him is telling him to call his friends, but he doesn’t feel like he can. This lawsuit has changed everything in ways that Buck wasn’t expecting. And part of him knows that at least Maddie would be there for him, but she’s connected to Chim and Chim is connected to the team, and he’s pushed them so far away that he doesn’t think he deserves to call them and ask for help.

(NOTE: I’m taking this route, because I think the way it was portrayed in canon makes it seem like they weren’t legally allowed to contact each other, but because things never went to court, it was more of a “no contact” order which was definitely more of a highly recommended not to contact people type of suggestion.)

But the team would be there for him. They’re mad about how things went down but they love him. They’d drop everything if Buck called and said he needed help, said he needed someone. Which is why when one of Athena’s colleagues (who’s also one of the officers on Buck’s case) remembers that she knows Buck, they contact her. Even when Buck says there’s no one to call, this officer knows there’s never no one.

Athena shows up in the middle of the night with Bobby in hand. They wouldn’t discuss what happened over the phone, so they have no idea how Buck is hurt. Was he in an accident? Did he hurt himself? It doesn’t matter. Family is here now, and they’re going to make sure Buck is okay.

Hi hello yes I submit for your consideration: heat stroke. LA gets fuckin *hot* in the summer, turnouts are heavy and fighting fires involves lots of running and hard work. Dehydration can set in fast.

Don’t ask me why this scenario came to me, but it did, so I must share!

Picture this: There’s a stand in captain at the 118 while Bobby is out and recovering from the gunshot wound. And the stand in? He’s quite the fucking tool. He knows what he’s doing but he’s the wrong shade of bossy and a bit arrogant. It doesn’t help that Buck responds super well to communication, whether it’s about something he did wrong or something he did right. This captain? Even if he does a fantastic job and does everything right, he won’t acknowledge it. The entire team could be clapping him on his back and the captain won’t even glance Buck’s way. And that doesn’t bother him. What bothers him is that if he even breathes the wrong way, he’s got the captain giving him a ear full of how he needs to be better.

The captain can’t stand Buck (and to make it a little more believable, he doesn’t like a few other 118 guys for no apparent reason). Maybe it’s literally just something about Buck and the other couple people being millennials.

But things finally come to a head when they’ve had their busiest day all summer and they need to go back to the station to restock, and hydrate. Buck says as much when the acting captain tells them to pack up so they can get moving to a fire a few blocks down where extra assistance is needed. Buck takes one look around at his team mates and they’re all sharing the same look. They will if there’s no one else to respond— it’s their job— but if another station can afford to, they should take this moment to go back to the station. They don’t even need a break, they just need walk instead of run. So he says something.

The captain doesn’t like this suggestion one bit. Not because it’s unreasonable but because it came from Buck. It leads to all of them getting pushed beyond their limits when the fire they respond to takes a turn for the worst. Everyone makes it out okay, but by the time they make it back to the station, Buck’s legs are numb and he feels like he’s going to pass out.

He does when his feet hit the ground as he exits the fire truck and instead of stepping forward, his legs crumble below him. Someone is on him in an instant and they can feel his racing heart rate and how fucking hot his skin is. The captain nearly blows a fuse over Buck being dramatic until he sees another firefighter take a tumble because they’re right on the brink of being as far gone as Buck.

The chief definitely hears about this when they receive several reports throughout the next week from various members of the 118. That captain is gone before Buck ever has to see his face again.

Sorry this turned into a prompt.

EVAN BUCKLEY | S01E04

manhandling, fear

Sometimes I think back on Season 1 of the show and what it was like to headcanon things to myself before there was really ever a fandom for the show. Buck’s reaction in this gifset as well as this one, is really what fueled the “abusive parents” headcanons. That has since been debunked, but what if Buck had an abusive parter at some point?

Can you guys imagine how scared Buck would have been when he finally got out of that relationship?

Can you guys imagine the team responding to a couple in a car accident, and Buck tending to the woman who refuses to let them examine her injuries? He sees the way she’s holding herself and knows that she has more injuries than what she sustained during the accident.

It’s Chim who catches on next, but there’s nothing they can do without the patient’s consent. Considering that they’re not in need of emergency medical aid, the man insists on calling a cab for them and the two take off.

No one is prepared for Buck’s silent rage that follows him around like a dark cloud the rest of the shift. He doesn’t lash out at anyone, but he’s very clearly in a don’t fuck with me mood.

Maybe it’s because he’s been reminded of what happened to Maddie? The team isn’t really sure.

The truth finally comes out when Eddie finds Buck unleashing his anger on the punching bag. Before Eddie can even ask what he’s fighting, Buck collapses against the bag, holding onto it to hold himself up, breathless and with eyes too red to just be irritated.

Why didn’t we do something? He asks. It’s only going to get worse. It always gets worse.

Eddie knows he’s talking about the call, but he doesn’t understand. And at this point Buck is borderline hyperventilating.

She needs someone to get her out, Buck persists. I- I needed someone to get me out.

And a chill runs down Eddie’s spine.

I got myself out, Buck says, letting himself slide to the floor. But I was so lonely, Eddie. I didn’t… I didn’t have anyone.

Eddie falls to his knees and embraces Buck when he lets out a broken sob. Buck hides his face in Eddie’s shirt as Hen and Chim make their way over to see what the commotion was about. They don’t like what they find out.

just because we love him doesn't mean we don't want him to bled out in Eddie's embrace ygm

Exactly, nonnie! I can imagine it now…

Buck showing up our of nowhere, whether it’s at the station or Eddie’s front door. Once their eyes meet, Buck’s roll to the back of his head and he collapses forward. Eddie catches him and searches his body for injury, only to find a wet patch on the dark black of his shirt and when he pulls his hand away, it’s coated in blood.

Similarly, imagine him being wounded on the job. Buck is very conscious but in too much pain to move on his own. Eddie gets Buck’s arm over his shoulder and one arm around his waist and starts hauling ass out of the building. Once they hit the pavement outside, Buck’s fight starts to leave his body, and his legs start to crumble. Eddie’s muttering no, no, no, no, as they settle to the ground and then yells for help. He presses a hand to Buck’s wound because that’s all he has, and Buck howls in pain as he arches off of the ground.

Hmm… this lowkey turned into Thoughts™. Someone write this please and thank you.
