Layton's Mystery Journey is actually a pretty decent game

This is partially from personal bias as Mystery Journey was the only Layton game I've played so far, but even with the chapters being episodic storylines and most of the plot holes in the game only being addressed in the anime adaptation, it still has all of what I consider the hallmarks of a Layton game - enough puzzles to keep even someone with as puny a brain as mine busy (even if they end up having to look up a walkthrough sometimes), a cast of so many characters that end up endearing themselves to you that you might have trouble picking a favorite, a banger OST, and plenty of storyline shenanigans to go around (including Ernest Greeves being a simp) - plus some other cool stuff (alt costumes, daily stuff and minigames that look difficult).

Case in point, while Layton's Mystery Journey wasn't really a hit with most of the Layton fandom, I personally enjoyed it, and I just want to see who here also thought it was good.

Have you looked at it in a map? To reach the rest of the USA by land, people in Point Roberts have to go through the Canada-US border every time. What a pain. It'd be easier if they were just part of Canada.

I hate almost every dub ever. And this isn’t a weeaboo take, A Japanese dub of South Park even? Get that shit out of here.

Voice actors are forced to do the same voice, and add no depth to character. The dubbed scenes have so much less emotion to them. The original audio and voice acting I think has a lot more authentic quality to it. Things are put it o an English script, and then edited and censored. (Example: gay people in sailor moon made to be cousins. Many more examples i could give) I’m lowkey just being a snob about some things but I really think I’m right overall.

i think drinking orange juice after brushing your teeth tastes good

it makes the orange juice really nice and sour :)

The reason orange juice tastes sour after you brush your teeth is because of Sodium Lauryl Sulphate (SLS), an ingredient in most toothpastes. It's what makes them foam when you brush. However, SLS also suppresses the taste receptors that detect sweetness, and breaks down fatty compounds on the tongue that normally help block the taste receptors that detect bitterness. So, when you drink the orange juice, your sweetness receptors are blocked, while your bitter receptors are left wide open. That's what makes it taste the way it does.

The mocking of general Tumblr's userbase's lack of reading comprehension skills should not be as normalized as it is

Man, I was gonna write such a long essay on this one... I don't think I can honestly, I have a lot of thoughts regarding this subject however not as much of a decent attention span to write it all down.

But, to simplify it, you shouldn't bully, mock and put down people or the general userbase of Tumblr or anyone really in relation to their/our garbage reading comprehension skills.

Like I said, I have a lot of thoughts but not enough time. So

Just... don't bully people? Misunderstandings very much happen due to lack of reading comprehension skills however instead of bullying others for it you should take your time to clarify your point especially if you two AGREE. but some people simply don't want to take anymore their time explaining and would rather bully others which doesn't help literally anyone in the situation and only worsens it. It's fine to be stupid, it's fine to suck at reading, it's not fine to bully others for those traits because like. What are you doing with your life. Bullying most of the times isn't justifiable I would say (unless the other person is an irredeemable moral failure) but in this case the person just might suck at reading or reading social cues and it's never good to bully people for that.

We can very much just avoid misunderstandings by taking our time, being patient, yada yada. Not bullying. It doesn't matter what the person with no reading comprehension skills reason is for being "stupid"'s reason is, maybe they're some flavour of neurodivergent, maybe it's because they barely ever read, maybe it's bc of something else or maybe it's a combination of several factors. They still shouldn't be bullied for it just bc they misunderstood the tone of your post or comment or whatever

Tumblr polls shouldn't have a "See results" option

I can't tell you how many polls I've seen where the results are single digits for the real options and 80% "See results", "I don't do this thing", "I don't know this character", "not from this country", "not this identity", etc.

I get the idea is that by giving an option to people who want to see the results without randomly picking something that doesn't apply to them, it means the votes for the real options are genuine. But if "See results" makes the results meaningless anyway, what's the point?

Spirited Away is a bad movie

I tried so hard to love this because I have only heard amazing and fantastical things about it. I tried around 5 times to actually finish this stupid movie and just thinking about it would make me depressed. It has zero plot, poorly written characters and no point. It feels like the writers did a bunch of drugs and wrote this based off of a general vibe, then did zero editing or redrafting and somehow it got made and became one of the greatest movies ever. I feel like I’m living in a fever dream. I genuinely don’t know how this is popular.

Morshu deserved to win the round of Favorite Character Poll

He's a silly little guy and also I don't like the MCYT/DSMP but mostly that Morshu is a silly little guy. Like I know the common consensus is that Morshu is a good character but he lost 40/60 and I am angry. All Morshu wanted to do was sell LAMP OIL, ROPES, and BOMBS. And he LOST! To some MCYT/DSMP guy. I will become back my money.

I don't know who the "MCYT/DSMP guy" is in this story, unfortunately.

Death note the musical is the only good form of death note media

I watched all of the anime and read some of the manga but I really wasn’t that into it. Like, yeah it’s an interesting idea and there are some cool themes, but I didn’t care about any of the characters and didn’t really understand all the fuss.

But then I found out that there was a musical. I am 10x more interested if there is a catchy song that drives the plot forward and death note the musical has plenty of those. Immediately with “where is the justice” Light becomes a way more interesting character, he has a point about how messed up the justice system can be and is so charismatic he gets his whole class singing along with him. He isn’t just some teen genius who is super full of himself, he know how to get people on his side and seeing this decline from genuine questions about how we handle crime to “I am god, I am justice, I am the only person who can fix the world”, it is very good. Speaking of this decline, “hurricane” is the perfect song to show this, he starts of unsure not believing what happen and by the time the bridge comes around he’s singing “I am the god of a brave new world”, what’s not to love. He’s fairly passive during the first chorus saying how the rain and wind are waiting for the hurricane, only to move onto singing “I’ll bring the rain, I’ll bring the wind” he’s accepted the he is this great power of justice he is the hurricane and can finally deal out punishment to these criminals.

I also absolutely love that Misa’s first song is like a gospel, she worships Kira like a god she would do anything for him, it is also very catchy. I like what the did with Misa’s character in the musical she feels so much more interesting. Especially in “borrowed time”.

Not to mention how sad some of the songs are, “when love comes” is absolutely devastating.

What is the most important thing the anime/manga is missing though?

Puns.

A good pun is always appreciated, so the fact that there are multiple Light puns is very pleasing.

The “bends how Light refracts” in “Honour bound” works on so many levels, so good.

I don’t really know how to put it into worlds, but the musical is just much more interesting. People should listen to the it.

Squishmallows suck. Easily the second-worst plushie brand (second only to Beanie Boos but that's less controversial afaik)

1- They're the Funko Pops of plushies, all just slight variations on the same bland cookie-cutter outline: an oval/blob/egg-shape with a dead-eyed smiley face. They don't actually resemble the animals/creatures they're based on much, only slapping on one or two heavily simplified features like flat fabric triangles for ears, onto the otherwise identical shape. The designs are cheap, lazy, uninspired, and corporate. I prefer my stuffed animals to actually look like animals, and have limbs, and a variety of body shapes.

2- They're overpriced, and deliberately encourage over-consumption, with thousands of "collect them all" varieties and "rare" ones and hype/trend cycle and all. And the scalpers/flippers... There was one called Jack the Black Cat that was "limited edition" (artificially scarce) because only 500 were ever produced, and even by Squishmallow standards it's boring af (solid black cat with white facial embroidery) but there have been MULTIPLE cases of collectors paying over ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS ($1000) on ebay for a single stuffed animal that you could probably DIY a knockoff version with like $20 worth of materials. Madness.

3- Rebuttals to common arguments:

a- "But they're so soft!" Yes, but Squishmallow doesn't have a patent over the type of fabric. You can find plenty of other stuffed animals with it, it's called "mochi minky".

b- "But you can use them as pillows!" Okay, but in that case we're no longer discussing their merits *as plushies* in the same realm as Jellycat, Douglas, Aurora, Build-a-Bear, etc so it doesn't negate my point that Squishmallows are bad *plushies* even if they're good pillows. And hell, this is just me as an adult autistic person, I imagine the fact they don't have limbs makes it hard for children to actually *play* with them as is the original intent of stuffed animals existing.

To be honest, I thought this was the cereal Gumball and Darwin used to eat.

It's not just bugs. It's corruption, rot, infection, disease, toxic relationships, unhealthy attachments, and feelings of disgust and revulsion.

I literally don't know anything about The Magnus Archives, or that "the Corruption" existed before today, so this was hard to make a 'No' option for.

But for what it's worth, from an outsider's perspective, reading that Wiki page alone made me assume it was extremely bug themed, with the disease and filth stuff being added as an afterthought, not the other way around. It crawls and burrows under your skin, characters turn INTO bugs, and the 'obssessive love' thing which is so prevalent (referred to here as love/companionship) also feels like a Hive Mind vibe to me.

So, if you're wondering how this could be a hot take even with a direct quote, that might be part of it.

"Edgy" pokemon fangames are better than the real ones

Pokemon Uranium is one of the best games I have ever played. It has unique fakemon designs, an amazing story, and one that would not be possible if it was a real, mainline game. Alongside all of that, it also has a they/them option when you create your character. This has given me immense gender euphoria. You know what a mainline game's given me? DYSPHORIA. (In Ultra Sun/Moon, when you talk to Lana's younger sisters, if you chose "girl" as your gender, they will call you "Miss Trainer Lady.") It also uses tools to break roadblocks instead of HMs or ride pokemon. To top it all off, the music is amazing.

Pokemon Reborn, while something I did not sign up for, turned out to be a wonderful psychological horror experience. I'm only at the ghost gym- the third or fourth leader you fight, I believe. You could not get anything like that in a real game. Without spoiling too much, you see someone commit suicide (and then someone call that guy weak ((literally everyone hates the mean one.))) and also see someone get forcibly institutionalized and tortured with electro-shock therapy.

Alongside that is Pokemon Ashen Frost, which I'm putting up here for the soundtrack ALONE. It's amazing and I love it. It's better than sword and shield's music.

Mega-Evolutions should have stayed

Submitting this now in honor of Pokémon Legends Z-A being announced and Mega-Evos finally being back

Mega-Evos were such a fun feature and they should not have been removed in Gen 8 and 9.

It was fun to play, it opened up so many new possible strategies and it had amazing lore. It was balanced super well, it was strong but not too strong since you can only mega-evolve one pokémon and that locks you out of giving that pokémon any other item to carry. Having a character mega-evolve a pokémon is also always a good piece of characterization to show their bond with their pokémon. While a lot of mega-evolvable pokémon are already popular pokémon, there are also a lot of more forgotten pokémon like Slowbro and pokémon without regular evolutions like Sableye that really benfit from having a Mega-Evo. If Mega-Evos had stayed for loger, and more would have been added, it would have also balanced out the amount of mega-evolvable pokémon from each generation (with Gen 3 currently having the most Megas simply because Gen 3 had their remakes in Gen 6 since Gen 7 didn't add any new Megas, unfortunately). And, again, the lore is so cool. They literally went out of their way and introduced parallel universes to explain why ORAS has Mega-Evos when the original Ruby/Saphire/Emerald didn't.

It was also very clearly intended to be permanent, since Sword and Shield were originally supposed to have Mega-Evos and the way Mega-Evos are introduced in X and Y is very similar to the way eggs were introduced in Gen 2, not even to mention all the promo stuff centered around Megas, like them being in Pokémon Origins for example. Not that that really matters, I'd still want them back even if they were never intended to be permanent.

I know everyone on this blog is super squeamish from whaat I've seen, but roll up your sleeves, stick your arm down the hole and pull out/break up the blockage manually. It takes thirty seconds. Then vigorously scrub your hands clean (hop in the shower afterwards if you like) and that's it. Done. I do not understand why anyone needs a plunger.
