Ok but the parallel between Cersei absolutely terrorising the shit out of Littlefinger in the "Power is Power" scene and Alicent being sexually abused by Larys in order to get him to do what she wants is just.marvellous.

They are both Queen regents. That literally means they are like one of the 5 most powerful people in all seven kingdoms, not to say the most powerful people in all seven kingdoms after the king himself. They both happen to have a faithful servant/counselor that also happens to be a psychotic murderous piece of shit, no disagreement on that. Both these counselors try to exert power over the Queens but the Queens' reactions are totally not the same. Littlefinger tries to scare Cersei by saying that he knows everything that happens, implying that he can take her down at any moment. Larys terrorises Alicent by executing murder that she didn't order, but in her name, thus blackmailing her. Cersei kindly reminds Littlefinger that he can be the most powerful and unhinged Lord in all Seven Kingdoms but she is still the Queen, on top of that she is fucking insane and she will cut his throat on the spot if he defies her again. Alicent on the other hand has Larys masturbate to her feet so that hopefully he will do as she wishes. Alicent, the Queen regent. That could literally order his execution on the spot. He is a simple disabled Lord and she is the Queen and she needs to give him sexual favours so that he obeys her? What she could have done is negotiate, and blackmail back, in a power move that is worthy of real Queen regents in history who had political wit and ruthlessness and ambition. A power move that is worthy or book!Alicent herself. Imagine the dialogue and the character development that scene could have given us. But nope, wasn't meant to be. What we got instead is a disabled person being creepy and abusive and Alicent being a victim yet again.

And you are still wondering why this isn't an engaging character? You are still wondering why the general audience doesn't give a fuck about her?

At least, Aegon didn't end up as poop, was recognized as the legitimate monarch, and the Greens ideology prevailed 😘

aegon ended up twisted and bent bcs he has his ass handed to him by baela (whose dragon was two times smaller than sunfyre), then was poisoned by his own people bcs they hated him so much. his wife flew out of the window and he didn't give a damn about it, his brother was taken out by their geriatric uncle, his other brother died bcs a tent collapsed. he said his sisters line must end but it was his line that ended: daemon played basketball with jaehaerys' head, maelor was torn apart and his limbs went on a tour around westeros, jaehaera was pushed out of a window by A GREEN SUPPORTER and she was so irrelevant that nobody cared about it. even his bastard was poisoned and died. his mommy regretted everything that she did and died alone and delusional hating the color green. rhaenyra's supporters fought until they put her son on the throne, and another one of her sons followed after him. rhaenyra's line survived and she still have descendants. meanwhile your entire team is such a bunch of irrelevant losers that you need to headcanon your way out of making them relevant, fun and interesting. does team green have any interesting supporters? where is team's green sabitha fray, black aly, cregan stark and jeyne arryn?

and yes, greens ideology did prevail! by preventing any woman from inheriting the iron throne ever again. glad yall admit that you stand for reaction

Not to mention that he was already burnt to hell in his battle against Meleys and Rhaenys before Baela doled out more damage at Dragonstone. The guy only knew losses.

BTW, didn’t this same guy think it would be better for him to start cutting pieces off his nephew to intimidate those going against him by Alicent’s suggestion because he got scared and rageful?

Sure, let’s praise a sadistic coward like him. I’m done.

I think back a lot to what you said about so much of what ppl really love in shows being accidents, or done by the actors/not intended by the writers. Like at the end of the day, there are so different ppl working on a show, with so many different POVs that like, even as show runner, if what you intended doesnt come across that way to viewers, then is it really canon? idk maybe im deluding myself, but if the general viewer would hear his take and go, "huh?!", is it really canon?

in my opinion, no. the only canon is what is on my screen. whatever people say behind the scenes is so much noise, because like you say, television is a huge collaborative business and they simply often contradict themselves. we also had sara hess saying daemon and rhaenyra are meant for each other with a primal bond that goes beyond love that no one else can understand, which is deeply at odds with ryan saying that daemon views rhaenyra as an extension of his brother/some kind of consolation prize since he can’t have viserys. so which is the truth? that is pointless to determine - the only thing i can do is watch what is put on my screen and make my judgement of the characters and relationships for myself. i think it’s clear based on this blog which writer’s take i favor more, but i know other people disagree. we can mutually think the other is wrong and bad at watching TV or whatever and move on with our lives, but i will never take a showrunner’s word as gospel over my own eyes and brain because the magicians season 4 episode 13 radicalized me and i now understand all TV writers are stupid and sometimes yes, i do understand their show better than they do, because sometimes they are simply very bad at their jobs and what they intended does not make it to my screen, or they fucking straight up lie to you about what they intended. they sometimes very much do that!

something that i love about the characters from fire and blood is the fact that there’s so little information about these bitches that you can headcanon the hell out of them like so what if i imagine aemond targaryen as the type of man that likes to be called baby girl??? who the hell said he’s not? definitely not grrm

For a show that gave the viewers several scenes of painful childbirth, I find it fascinating that we never see Alicent giving birth to her kids. I wonder if that was just not on the creators’ mind or whether it was a conscious decision on their part, to show Alicent being a mother without the ugliness of childbirth. If so, the reasoning behind this decision is so interesting to explore, I think.

god, this bothers me so much. i didn't even notice at first until someone else pointed it out but it is SO important

rhaenyra has had two birth scenes and they were obviously emotional. alicent had zero birth scenes, even if she has four children and she's probably had her first child when she was around 16-17.

helaena also does not get a birth scene.

i know some said it's women in pain p*rn but the thing is.... it humanizes rhaenyra to the audience in a way that alicent and helaena are denied.

we see rhaenyra struggle through the pain but we also see her strength, we see her have joy as she handles her newborn and then we also see her grieve her stillborn.

it buys rhaenyra sympathy (as it should) that the audience does not have for either alicent or helaena. they are not granted the right to show the audience their own pain.

i mean, hell, there are people still denying that alicent was maritally r*ped because "not enjoying sex with your husband isn't r*pe" and "she seduced viserys" and "that's what she wanted".

some people totally misinterpreted her dissociation in the r*pe scene AND when she's holding her children because a lot of people don't give serious thought to what teenage pregnancy does to a girl, let alone a teenage pregnancy that's the result of marital r*pe.

and how that complicates not just her feelings towards herself and her children, but also how she handles them and how she copes.

there are so many nuances here that it's crazy. and the audience is already putting alicent in all these negative boxes (bad mother, evil woman, oppressor, etc.), something the writers knew was gonna happen, and refused to take one more opportunity to really hammer in the point that she is a victim, that what happened to her was wrong, that viserys had a choice, and that the choice is to witness a 16 year old girl being forced into this horrible situation, regardless of "the times" when it happens.

to me this denied the actresses' both an acting opportunity and the opportunity to be presented as human as rhaenyra.
