I want to make fake screenshots for Pokeheadspace AU because I think it would be so fun. Here are some things I’m taking into consideration for this though:

  • Since Omori has heavy Earthbound inspiration for its battle system and overworld sprite style without being an exact copy, Pokeheadspace should be similar. Inspired by Pokémon without being an exact copy.
  • Battle sprites drawn in the same style used for enemies in Omori with the same screen layout as Pokemon. Custom battle command images, no pixel art here.
  • Overworld has sprites that are more like a Pokemon romhack but with Headspace palette instead of the classic 4-color palette that the Gameboy Pokemon games have. Headspace has a larger color palette, it’s not an actual Gameboy game.
  • Would all of Omori’s Pokemon also be black and white/ grayscale, or is that a personal style for just him do we think? They aren’t inflicted in the same way him or the Somethings are so I don’t know if this thought even makes sense. I think my logic is that his Pokémon are a part of him/ projection of him in some way? At least Eevee is.
  • Do the Pokémon feel emotions???? I think yes. I think that's important to the storytelling of Omori.
  • None of the Mother (Earthbound) games have portraits in the text or Names associated with text. Would those exist in fake screenshots for this AU?
  • I do still want to make trainer pixel portraits for everyone separate from this because that just sounds fun and cute.

Thinking way too deeply about this (my entire experience with this AU being in my head) but I have already drawn some Pokémon sketches for fake battle screens and I’m working on the pixels. Haha.

omori au where headspace is the pokemon world from the 90s

[Omori spoilers ahead]

In this AU, the group was very into Pokemon as the games and anime were coming out in the US. So when Sunny escaped into his dream world, it manifested as the Kanto region as it was connected to the Johto* region with his own other areas sprinkled in. So only gen 1 and gen 2 Pokemon are around because that's all that was around when they were kids. And the gen 2 pokemon are new and cool and special.

We finished our Omori True Route playthrough on stream. I wanted to put together all of the thumbnails that I made for it! It was so fun to make these as we played and really spend some time in the worlds that were so lovingly crafted and do a little study of the environments. I haven't had a lot of practice with backgrounds and this was awesome to experiment with.
