He clasps his hands underneath the table, his heart fluttering in his chest.
She’s smiling at him, talking about their day and he can’t help but stare. She’s beautiful in every way. His Felicity.
He hears her words, the soft, gentleness in her voice calming him and bringing him back to the present of this moment - a moment he’s planned for weeks.
He’s ready. He knows he’s ready. He thinks maybe his heart knew it before he even realized his feelings for the amazing woman in front of him.
But he’s finally all on the same page and he knows he’s ready for this moment - this turning point in his life.
Oliver is not unacquainted with turning points - moments that change the direction of your life forever.
He’s experienced many over the years. Too many.
The first was when The Gambit went down in the South China Sea; his father giving his own life so that he could survive. And he did. He survived by chipping away at his soul for five years. But he survived. He didn’t know if he’d ever be able to truly live again though.
He’s had a few more in between then and now; returning to Starling City, watching Tommy die in his arms, seeing his mother killed by Slade, a mountaintop duel with Ra’s al Ghul, surviving the League of Assassins, meeting Felicity Smoak...
But this is one of the first times he’s been in charge of a turning point in his life. Usually he’s left feeling helpless, scared, angry, heartbroken...
This time, his body thrums with anticipation and hope. An energy surges out from his heart to the tips of his fingers and down to his toes.
He’s nervous but excited. And he’s slowly realizing this type of adrenaline is so much more addicting than his previous nightly activities.
Felicity smiles at him, and he sighs in contentment, the ring in his pocket feeling as if it’s burning a hole into the fabric of his pants.
His gaze travels to her left hand; her empty ring finger and he pictures the way it will look - his ring on her finger.
He’s ready for that; ready for that life.
He’s loved Felicity Smoak for longer than he realized. It took awhile for his head to catch up with his heart. But now that he’s spent five months being with her, living with her, sharing moments and experiences and making good memories that begin to outnumber the bad, he knows he wants this for the rest of his life.
He knows without a doubt that he wants to be her husband, and that he wants her to be his wife. He wants a family and a future with her.
And so he sits on that precipice of something new, something he never thought he’d have but something he always yearned for in those quiet moments.
And he’s ready to take that leap. To live that new dream he’s been having ever since they drove away from Starling City.
The one where he wakes up to Felicity Smoak Queen, and their family.
He’s ready for this turning point. He’s ready for his life with her.
