#circumstances in the reacquisition of qc leads them to be out west around the same time as her high school reunion #they're lying in their hotel room bed near silicon valley as she talks about flying under the radar #(this baffles him for a moment because he can't really conceive of a world in which felicity smoak goes unnoticed) #she talks about how she couldn't wait to get the hell out of dodge#she shrugs as she says she really didn't care about prom or homecoming or getting caught making out in the stacks in the library #but her smile is wide enough to prompt his own when she says she knew she had other important places to be -- like with him #and a sharp edge of one of the broken pieces inside him smooths as he realizes she's right (as usual); timing is everything#and had they not gone through some of their timelines alone #they may not have been able to follow this one together #and though he leaves the final decision up to her #he makes sure she knows that he'll take any part of her past she wants to share -- just like he's taken her todays and tomorrows#they end up attending and there are the inevitable double takes of both his presence and her transformation #(little do they know just how much *she's* changed *him*) #but eventually they walk down the halls hand in hand #they end up in the science and technology wing of the building and he immediately spots her name on half a dozen plaques #(there's something like coming home in the way he always finds her) #and as he cups her face to kiss her he again proclaims she's the brains of the operation because he'd called her remarkable once #when she's downright extraordinary #(they do end up making a trip to the stacks though #and the dance they share isn't at prom but instead at their wedding reception #and it turns out you can go home again as long as home is the person you have beside you) #tag fic (via effie214)
