3.39 Decent Proposal(s)

The Spring semester was drawing to a close and while Chantal aced her exams as usual, she wasn't feeling any more motivated to continue her schooling than she had in the fall. When Kayla suggested they meet up to chat, Chantal hoped for an opportunity to discuss her friend's business plans in greater depth.

Chantal's wish came true: Kayla told her that the ideas Chantal had shared with her a few months ago had been a big inspiration to her. She now had more clarity about what direction she wanted to take her company in and she was almost ready to file the paperwork to get things started.

Chantal's heart sank a bit until Kayla explained there was one thing she was waiting on.

"I don't want to use your ideas unless you can profit from them, too," she said. She made Chantal an offer--either she could pay Chantal for the rights to her designs, or Chantal could become a partner in her business.

"Of course, if you don't want me to use your ideas at all, I'll go back to the drawing board," Kayla assured her.

Chantal thought about it. She knew she didn't want to sell the rights, but starting a business was a big risk. She would likely have to put her schooling on hold for something that might not ever get off the ground. Still, she couldn't turn down an opportunity to do something she'd been dreaming of her whole life. She gleefully accepted Kayla's offer to become her business partner.

Chantal wasn't the only one with something to celebrate. Cece finally graduated from university. She was ecstatic to finally be able to join Ben on tour and become an official member of his band.

After the ceremony, Ben and Cece shared a meal with Cece's family. She couldn't help but notice that her usually easy-going boyfriend seemed a bit more nervous than usual.

After dinner, he suggested he and Cece take a walk. He lead her down to the water's edge and just as the sun began to set, Ben got down on one knee.

Ben looked into her eyes. "Cecelia, being away from you has made me realize how much better life is with you by my side. Will you marry me?"

"Yes!" she squealed. Cece wasn't usually one for big displays of emotion, but tears of happiness were forming in her eyes.

"I love you, Benjamin Coleman."

"And I love you, Cecelia Fields-Haim."

3.30 Waiting

Cece’s first semester of her senior year is drawing to a close and she realizes that dropping out now would be a waste. She’s so close to graduation…if she can only just hold out for a few more months, she’ll be able to join Ben on the road and fully focus on her career.

For the most part, that is. Being apart from Ben for the past few months has really reinforced for Cece how much she enjoys having him around. It’s an odd feeling–she’s always been independent and having a relationship was never on her radar. Now, though, the thought of performing without Ben by her side doesn’t seem as satisfying. It scares her a bit to rely so much on someone else’s presence, but mostly she feels a sense of security and belonging.

When Ben is in town she carefully broaches the subject of their future. She knows Ben would like to be married someday, and while the idea of marriage was never that appealing to her in the past she was beginning to have a change of heart.

She lets him know in her matter-of-fact, rather unromantic way that if he wants to propose she would prefer something private and subdued. “And no diamonds or anything flashy for the ring,” she adds. “Just a plain gold band.” Ben grins and promises to keep her preferences in mind.

Meanwhile Chantal is only becoming more frustrated with university. After she finishes this year, she’ll still only be halfway through her schooling. She wants to be out making moves, not reading textbooks and writing papers on things that have no real world applications.

It doesn’t help that Kayla is starting to think more seriously about starting her own company. It’s all she’s been talking about when they see each other at the gym. Kayla has been networking with various entrepreneurs around Del Sol and will probably have no problem finding investors when the time comes. What she lacks, though, is a clear vision for her company.

She tells Chantal that she wants to stick to fitness, but she’s burnt out on the instructional videos she’s been posting on social media. Chantal can’t help but offer up some ideas for products Kayla could create. She thinks about these sorts of things all the time, and her experience at SNOOT provided a lot of examples of what doesn’t work.

Kayla seems interested in her suggestions, but Chantal worries that she made a mistake in sharing them. After all, those were ideas she was holding onto for when she starts her own company someday. She wants her friend to be successful but she doesn’t want to give up on her dreams in the process.

3.8 Don't Stop Me Now

The last embers of summer were beginning to fizzle out and fall was fast approaching. Though the end of summer didn't bring cooler temperatures or falling leaves to Del Sol Valley, the tides of change could still be felt upon its shore.

This was especially true for the members of the Owens-Haim family, who were all entering new seasons of their lives.

Cece was preparing to enter her final year of university. The beginning of a new semester was usually a time of hopeful exuberance for the overachiever, but this year she only felt stifled by the monotony of academia.

She dreaded leaving the stage for the classroom. Overcoming her stage fright and experiencing the rush of performing in front of an audience had done much more for Cece than had all of the years she spent studying music theory and composition. She'd learned some valuable things, but they would have been useless without the encouragement of her boyfriend Ben to put her fears aside and let the music guide her.

As a recent graduate, her Ben had the luxury of continuing life on the road, which made things even harder for Cece. She would not only miss performing but her boyfriend as well—and, though she hated to admit it, she was a bit envious.

Her head and her heart had always been at odds but these days it seemed that the latter refused to be ignored. She just had to try her best to make it through her final academic year so she could share the stage with Ben once more.

2.19 Dolly Would

Cece: It was so awesome! I thought I was going to be too nervous to perform, but I just asked myself ‘What would Dolly do?’ and the nerves just melted away.

Ben: Yeah, I even convinced her to sing a solo! She absolutely killed it!

[Cece plays a video of her performance]

Cece: [singing] I’ve never hurt nobody, never buried a body, never killed no one, no no. I ain't afraid to get a little crazy, baby, when I'm in love. You say you've had your fun and that you're done and I'm the one. Just know that if you fuck around, boy, I'll hunt you down.

Lexie: Wow you sound amazing!

Johnny: I wish we could’ve been there to see it in person!

Lexie: Who is that I hear screaming?

David: Oh, that was me. I screamed so loud I lost my voice for 2 days.

Solomon: [off-screen] Ah, 2 days of bliss!

David: Oh, stop! So, how was Granite Falls?

Johnny: It was great! The weather was perfect. We rented a paddleboat. I even caught a couple of fish!

Cece: See, I knew you two would have a great time without us!

Solomon: Chantal, you’re awfully quiet. Is everything ok?

Chantal: Yeah, I’ve just been a little stressed about some work stuff.

David: Oh? What’s going on at work?

Chantal: Nothing I want to talk about.

Solomon: That’s not like you. Normally you’re as chatty as your dad.

Chantal: I’m a big girl, I can figure it out for myself.

Solomon: If you say so. Anyway, not to take away from Cece’s big moment, but your Dad has some exciting news.

David: I got a call from the casting director at Drag Superstar and I made it on the show!

[Everyone reacts with excitement to the news and congratulates David]

Chantal: I'm so happy for you! When does filming start?

David: In a few weeks, so I have to scramble and get everything together by then. It's all so surreal.

Cece: I can't believe this is happening for real! If you need anything, we're here to help!

Johnny: Yeah, I don't know much about fashion, but I can work a hot glue gun like no one's business.

David: Thanks, I need all the help I can get! I have to admit, I'm a little nervous about being on TV. I hope people like me.

Johnny: Don't be so humble, Dad! The audience is going to love you!

Chantal: Yeah, they totally will!

Cece: I can't wait! When I finally see you on the screen, I’m going to scream as loud for you as you did for me!

Solomon: I doubt that’s possible!

[laughter]

2.14 A Dream Come True

Cece: Wow, your band is playing Plumbite Fest? That’s amazing!

Ben: Well, it’s one of the smaller stages and it’s at the asscrack of dawn, but it’s the biggest show we’ve ever played by far.

Cece: I’m so happy for you! What day are you playing? I want to be front row, center for this!

Ben: Well, a couple of things. Our acoustic guitarist broke his hand a few days ago and is out of commission during the festival. We could do some rearrangements, but I did tell the guys that I know a talented guitarist who can also do some killer backup vocals. So what do you say?

Cece: What??? You’re asking me to perform with your band? Onstage in front of hundreds of people?

Ben: Do you not want to? It’s ok if you don’t, but I really thought you’d jump at such a big opportunity.

Cece: It’s not that I don’t want to, I just don’t know if I can do it.

Ben: I know, it’s a lot. Look, let’s make a deal. We’ll prepare to do our set without the acoustics. You can plan to hang out and then if you feel like you can, you can join us onstage. That way you can feel out the situation without feeling obligated to do something you’re not comfortable with.

Cece: Well, I would hate to turn down the opportunity altogether. But you still haven’t told me when the show is.

Ben: Uh, that’s the other thing. It’s scheduled the week of Spring Break when we’re supposed to be in Granite Falls.

Cece: Ugh, what luck.

Ben: If you still want us to go on the trip, we can. It was my idea after all, and I'm a man of my word.

Cece: No way, I’d never ask you to turn down such a great opportunity for yourself!

Ben: If you want to go without me, that’s fine, too. I’d love to have you with me, but I know you and Lexie have been working hard at planning a great trip for us.

Cece: Yeah, we have. But I’ve worked so hard this year on building up my confidence onstage. I can’t think of a better way to prove to myself that I’ve got what it takes to be a performer than to get up there with you and play my heart out. I’ll do it!

Ben: Cecelia, I know you can do this! Let’s show Plumbite Fest what they’ve been missing out on!

Johnny: What are you two so excited about?

Cece: Well, we’re going to be playing one of the smaller stages at Plumbite Fest with Ben’s band!

Lexie: Wow, awesome!

Johnny: That’s so cool! My sister’s going to be famous!

Ben: Bad news, though, the show’s taking place during the Spring Break, so we won’t be able to go to Granite Falls. We’ll make it up to you guys, though.

Lexie: What? Are you kidding? We’ve been planning this for weeks, Cece!

Cece: I know, and I’m really sorry! I just can’t pass up this opportunity. Besides, I figured you and Johnny wouldn’t mind the alone time.

Johnny: Of course we won’t. Don’t worry about it, sis. I’m really excited for you! Make sure you get it on video so we can watch later.

[Lexie storms out of the room. Johnny follows her]

Lexie: [under breath] Stupid Ben. I knew it!

Johnny: Uh, are you ok?

Lexie: I don’t know, I’m just really upset.

Johnny: Cece and Ben can go to Granite Falls anytime, but this might be their only chance to play Plumbite Fest. Besides, Cece’s right. Now we can have some time to ourselves.

Lexie: I know, I was just really excited about all the stuff we planned together and this is so last minute…

Cece: Lexie, I’m sorry I upset you. I don’t want to back out of the trip, but playing the festival would be a dream come true for me.

Lexie: No, I’m sorry for overreacting. Of course you should go to the festival. I’m really happy for you! Really, I am.

Cece: Thanks, Lexie! Let’s plan to go to the falls this summer.

Lexie: Sure thing! It's going to be fine. Johnny and I will have a great time by ourselves.

Johnny: Even better, I’d say. Now we don’t have to have a sing-along by the campfire.

2.9 Itinerary

[Cece and Ben are cuddled up on the couch]

Cece: I really need to study, but I’m so comfy right now.

Ben: Yeah, me, too. It’s hard enough getting up the motivation to do anything for school as it is, much less when it means I have to stop snuggling with you.

Cece: Wait, do you have senioritis already? The semester just started!

Ben: I don’t think it’s that. All my classes are so boring. I really thought I wanted to work on the technical side of the music industry, but lately all that’s been on my mind is being onstage.

Cece: This is a hell of a time to come to that realization! I know what you mean, though. I’m glad I’ve gotten to work on my songwriting skills, but now that I’ve been performing more that’s all I want to do. What do you think you’ll do after graduation?

Ben: Well, there’s what I think I’ll do and what I want to do, and those are two different things.

Cece: Now I’m curious.

Ben: What I think I’ll do is stay in Del Sol Valley, try to get in with one of the record companies to do some sound engineering, and do that 5 days a week for the rest of my life. What I want to do is travel the world, perform in different cities, and snuggle with my girl on the tour bus every night.

Cece: Hmm, you’ve been bringing that up a lot.

Ben: A guy can dream, can’t he?

Cece: Well, since you’re soooo sure we’re going to have this fantastic life together, there’s something I should probably tell you.

Ben: Uh oh. Nothing good has ever followed those words.

Cece: It’s not that bad. I think. It’s just…I’m on the asexuality spectrum. And while I do find you attractive, I’m not sure that our sex life is going to be as active as you might expect.

Ben: [laughing] Are you for real?

Cece: Yeah, I am. You don’t have to laugh about it. If you’re not interested in me anymore, just say so–

Ben: No! Cecelia, I’m so sorry! I wasn’t laughing at you, I’m laughing because I’m greysexual and I’ve been too scared to tell you. An active sex life is pretty low on my list of priorities.

Cece: Wow. I feel like I shouldn’t be this happy to hear that the guy I like doesn’t want to have sex with me! How do you feel about kids?

Ben: Oh, now you’re all about the future talk. If I’m being honest, parenthood isn’t really my gig. I’m more of the uncle type.

Cece: Yeah, I don’t want kids, either. The thought of having a baby doesn’t appeal to me at all.

Johnny: What are you two talking about? Nobody in here better be having any babies any time soon.

Cece: Uh, definitely not. Ben and I were just talking about how we don’t want to have kids.

Lexie: Wow, you’re having those kinds of discussions already?

Ben: See, Lexie, when you have such a strong and undeniable connection like Cecelia and I do, your future becomes clear as day. Yes, I can see it now…Cecelia is about to give me an exasperated look and swat me on the arm–Ow!

Cece: I barely touched you! Anyway, we’re just making sure our expectations match up. Don’t you and Johnny talk about stuff like this?

Lexie: We haven’t, no. I’m just saying, there’s no point in rushing things.

Cece: Nobody’s rushing anything, not even this doofus. There’s no harm in making sure you’re on the same page about the big stuff before you get too invested. What if Johnny really wants kids and you don’t? Wouldn’t you rather know that now instead of later?

Lexie: I don’t know, I just turned 19. I don’t even know if I want kids or marriage yet. I just want to pass my test on Thursday and plan something fun for Spring Break.

Johnny: Yeah, I’m not trying to think about any of that stuff yet, either.

Ben: Lexie’s right, the only thing we should be thinking about right now is Spring Break. I have the itch to travel. How does everyone feel about taking a few days to unwind in Granite Falls?

Cece: I’ve always wanted to go! And since we have a few weeks, that gives me plenty of time to plan. I can get started on an itinerary so we can make sure we don’t miss out on anything.

Lexie: I’ve been there a few times with my family. I can help you out with planning! There are some really great hiking trails we should check out, and you just have to see the falls. This is going to be a blast.

Johnny: I’m totally down to get away, but I’m telling you right now, I’m not following any damn itinerary. You said "unwind" and that's what I'm gonna do.

Ben: Awesome! I'm glad everyone's on board. Cecelia and I can bring our guitars and serenade each other by the campfire.

Johnny: On second thought, maybe I'll just stay home.

2.3 Just Go For It

Cece: This was a nice idea. It’s so peaceful out here.

Ben: I figured it would be a nice change of pace for our first official date since we’re usually hanging out somewhere loud and crowded.

Cece: Yeah, it’s nice that we’ve had more chances to have actual conversations lately. I feel like there’s still so much we don’t know about each other.

Ben: That’s true. And whenever I do learn something new about you, it always manages to surprise me.

Cece: Really? Why’s that?

Ben: Well, you seem to have these really particular ideas about how self-conscious and cautious you are, but when it comes down to it, you never back down from a challenge.

Cece: Hmm, it’s weird, but I never really saw myself as shy when I was a kid. I loved being on stage and I never really cared what other people thought about me. For the most part, both of those things are still true. But I actually feel more comfortable being in front of a large crowd behind a piano than I do when I’m singing a song I wrote in front of a few people.

Ben: Yeah, it’s more intimate. I get it. Like, I’m a pretty personable guy and I’ll strike up a conversation with anyone, but talking one on one with someone about my feelings hasn’t always been easy.

Cece: Exactly! I’m not a very emotional person, but I’m not cold and unfeeling, either. But sharing my vulnerabilities with someone seems really intimidating.

Ben: Oh, totally! But y'know, nothing else beats that moment when you open up to someone and they accept you, flaws and all.

Cece: I think I just got it in my head that I need to be the strong one. My siblings have been through so much, and they needed a lot of extra support from our dads. My brother in particular had a really hard time, so I didn’t want to burden our parents with my feelings.

Ben: What about your mom? Could you talk to her?

Cece: My mom and stepmom are great, but they keep themselves busy. I think I get my need for order from my mom and my expressive side from my dad. The thing is, any of my parents would have been there for me. I just hold myself up to a really high standard.

Ben: I can see that. You do put a lot of pressure on yourself. But you’re also creative and passionate. I’m really looking forward to seeing what you’re capable of when you really let go.

Cece: Hmm, and you think you’ll be around to see that?

Ben: I wasn’t planning on going anywhere. Well, maybe on tour once I make it big. But in that case, you’d probably be with me.

Cece: That’s quite an assumption!

Ben: What, can’t you see us traveling the world with our band? Selling out arenas, hearing the crowd singing along…

Cece: Don’t get too ahead of yourself. We haven’t even kissed yet.

Ben: Is that a hint? You know, if you want something, Cecelia, you should just go for–

[Cece grabs Ben and kisses him]

Cece: How’s that?

Ben: Perfect. See, you’re full of surprises.

1.46 The Real Cecelia

Cece: That’s a really nice melody. I wish I wasn’t stuck on this line. Does “soul” rhyme with “all?”

Ben: Technically, no. But you can get away with it as a slant rhyme. Poetic license and all that.

Cece: Ugh, I don’t think it sounds right. What’s a better rhyme for “all?” Ball, fall, stall, call…

Ben: Why don’t we take a break? Give our brains a chance to rest for a bit.

Cece: My brain never rests. The wheels are always turning.

Ben: Have you ever tried meditation? When I find myself overthinking, cleaning the slate helps me focus on what’s actually important.

Cece: I haven’t tried it, but I might as well add it to the list of new things to try while I work on the new and improved version of me.

Ben: I don’t think you need to be new or improved. I think you’ve just stopped getting in your own way. It’s not the New Cecelia, it’s just the Real Cecelia shining through.

Cece: That’s a good way to look at it. You know, no one really calls me Cecelia. I’ve always gone by Cece.

Ben: Oh, I didn’t know. Should I start calling you Cece then?

Cece: No, I like when you call me Cecelia. It feels special.

Ben: Well, you’re special.

Cece: So are you. Speaking of not standing in my own way…there’s something I’ve been wanting to do, but I’ve been too nervous to go for it.

Ben: Hmm, what’s that?

Cece: I wanted to ask if you’d like to go out with me sometime. Like on a date.

Ben: I’d be honored.

Cece: Great! Wow, that was a lot easier than I thought it was going to be.

Ben: Well, I’ve been wanting to ask you out, too. But I had a feeling I shouldn’t try to rush things.

Cece: Good call. So when are you available to get together? Ben: It might be best to wait until after the holidays. The end of the semester is always hectic, and I’m visiting my brother over the break.

Cece: Sounds good. That will give me plenty of time to overthink it in the meantime.

Ben: Or this could be a good opportunity to get started with meditation!

Cece: That might be a better idea. Start off the new year with a clear mind.

Ben: I’m proud of you, Cecelia. You’re more adaptable than you give yourself credit for.

Cece: Yeah, I guess I am.

1.36 Force of Nature

[Cece and Ben are onstage singing “Jackson” by Johnny Cash and June Carter]

Cece/Ben: [singing] Honey, we’ve been talking ‘bout Jackson ever since the fire went out!

[The song ends and the crowd applauds]

Announcer: Give it up for Cecelia Fields-Haim and Ben Coleman! That was our last act of the night. Please hang tight for a few minutes while our judges come to a decision.

Ben: I think we crushed it! What about you?

Cece: We sure did! Man, that felt great!

Ben: Looks like you didn’t need vodka after all.

Cece: Nope. Maybe it was you all along.

Ben: Hmm, you think so?

Cece: Well, it is a lot easier for me to be onstage with someone else. I can focus my attention on the other person instead of the crowd. Plus, you keep the energy up.

Ben: As much as I’d like to take credit for our success tonight, I think it was all you. Once you hit your groove, you’re like a force of nature.

Cece: Thanks, but we haven’t won yet!

Ben: ‘Yet’ being the key word there.

Announcer: Good evening students, it’s now the time we’ve all been waiting for. We’ve had a lot of great duos performing tonight, but only three will win the coveted cash prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. All winners can see me after the show to claim your prizes. Without further ado, it’s time to announce our winners. Rounding out 3rd place for a $150 prize are Jacob Sully and Naomi Winters! Congrats on a job well done! Our second place prize of $300 goes to Tyrell Jones and Damien Hill. Great job tonight, guys!

And now, earning a cash prize of $500, our winning duo of the night is Cecelia Fields-Haim and Ben Coleman! You wowed the judges and the crowd! Congratulations to our winners!

Cece: We did it!

Ben: Yeah!

[Cece and Ben hug]

Ben: I told you we had it in the bag!

Cece: We make a great team!

Ben: You got that right. You know, we should get together and jam sometime. Maybe write some songs. It would be nice to have someone to collaborate with.

Cece: Yeah, that would be great!

Ben: Cool! We’d better go collect our prize before they close up shop.

Cece: Good idea. Thanks for talking me into this.

Ben: No problem. Next time you need a confidence boost, you know who to call.

1.30 Liquid Courage

Cece: Thanks for getting me out of the house. I was planning on spending my 21st on my couch with a glass of wine and my favorite records, but I’m actually having a lot of fun!

Sidney: I knew you had it in you! What made you finally take me up on my offer?

Cece: Well, I had a nice heart-to-heart with my dad the other day and it made me realize my need for structure is really stifling me. If I want to pursue a career in the creative arts, I’m gonna need to loosen up a little.

Sidney: Well, drink up, buttercup. You only turn 21 once!

[A couple drinks later]

Bartender: Another drink for the birthday girl. Courtesy of the guy in the black sweater.

Cece: OHMYGOD! Ben!!! Hiiiiii!!!!

[Cece approaches Ben and gives him a hug]

Sidney: Okay, who is this woman, and what has she done with Cece?

Ben: Hey Cecelia! I heard it was your birthday so I thought I’d buy you a drink. Hope you don’t mind.

Cece: Of course not, Benjamin! Is your name Benjamin? I’m going to call you that from now on. I like the way it sounds. Beeeeennnnnjaaaammmiiiiiiiiin. Do you like karaoke? You should sing with me!!!

Ben: Uh, yeah, let’s do it!

[Ben and Cece sing “Islands in the Stream” by Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton]

Ben and Cece: “And we rely on each other, ah ha. From one lover to another, ah ha… ”

Cece: Woo!!! That was awesome!

Ben: It was! This is a different side of you than what I saw at the showcase. And you sounded incredible! Hey, there’s a singing competition on campus I want to enter but it’s for duos. Would you want to be my partner? The winners get $500.

Cece: Shit, I don’t know. Tonight was fun but I’m afraid I’ll get nervous again.

Ben: I understand, but you didn’t seem to have any nerves tonight.

Cece: Yeah, but I don’t think drinking vodka before I perform is the best solution.

Ben: You don’t have to drink. Just channel your inner Dolly Parton like you did tonight.

Cece: Hmm, that’s not a bad idea! I'm not comfortable on stage, but Dolly is. And I definitely feel more like Dolly right now. I'm gonna go for it!

Ben: Yeah! Fake it until you make it! Just don’t show up in a blonde wig. Unless you really want to.

Cece: Haha, my dad is a drag queen so he could probably turn me into Dolly if I wanted. But I don’t want to be someone else. Just me with more confidence.

Ben: Good! You’re gonna rock it!

Cece: Thanks, Benjamin.

1.20 All Eyes on Me

Ben: Thanks for joining us for our Student Showcase. We have a lot of great performers lined up. It’s going to be a fun evening, so let’s get started! Please join me in welcoming our first performer, Cecelia Fields-Haim!

Cece: [mumbling] Thanks everyone, my name is Cecelia...well, I guess he just said that.

Audience member: Speak up!

Audience member: We can't hear you!

Cece: Oh, sorry! [microphone squeals] Uh, this song is about a difficult time in my life.

Audience member: Just sing already!

[Cece opens her mouth, but stops, frozen in place.]

Cece: Uh, I have to go now.

Audience member: Great song!

[laughter in crowd]

Ben: Quiet down! We'll be moving on to our next performer, Riley West!

[Cece heads backstage and is approached by Ben]

Ben: Hey, don't worry about it. This happens all the time.

Cece: Not to me! I'm so humiliated.

Ben: Performing in front of a crowd takes some getting used to. And some of these guys in the audience can be real assholes. I'm Ben if you don't know. I think I've seen you around campus.

Cece: I'm...well, I guess you know my name.

Ben: Yeah, I won't forget it anytime soon.

Cece: Here come my siblings. I'm sure everyone's wondering what happened.

Chantal: Cece, what's wrong?

Cece: I don't know. Those guys were giving me a hard time, and I just...choked.

Johnny: Don't worry about them. You know you have talent.

Chantal: Yeah, they just wanted attention.

Johnny: You want someone to beat them up? I mean, I wouldn't do it but someone else might.

Cece: Guys, I'm fine. Really. It'll go better next time. [softly] It has to.
