asked my friend why the @ symbol is called (spider) monkey in german and polish and they sent me this drawing
In Finnish it is/was/has been called various things relating to cats (including "miuku-mauku") for the same animal-with-long-smooth-tail reasons.
The German word they’re talking about is Klammeraffe. Which like, lbr: If you’ve got a choice between calling it At-Zeichen or Klammeraffe, why tf would you pick At-Zeichen?
I love how many languages actually looked at that symbol and saw some animal.
In Russian it's called "dog"! It looks like a sleeping dog actually.
In Italiano it's called "snail"
In Greek it's called "duckling"
It's just so cute.
