Well. I did not have "conservatives cancel the American Girl doll company" on my 2022 bingo card but somehow here we are.

wow this is some pure, concentrated, GMO-free transandrophobia they're growing here!

the what

*coughs* Friendly doll person here.

So Mattel came out with different Barbie body types a couple years ago, right? There’s your normal body, but there’s also Curvy, Petite, and Tall now.

Around the same time, they came out with the Made to Move body, which has a ton more articulation than your normal Barbie.

Customizers love the Made to Move body, because hey, a lot more fun positions to put a doll in for photographing. But now Mattel has started making the Made to Move dolls with the additional body types from above. We’ve gotten a Curvy Made to Move doll so far, afaik.

This Queen Elizabeth doll, though? Is the first time there’s been a Petite Made to Move body released by Mattel. So customizers were buying it up not out of any care about Queen Elizabeth — but they were buying it to pop her head right off and use the new body for other dolls!

The thing i like the most about tumblr is learning tiny details about communities i would otherwise not even be aware of. thank you for this info

#stop I just got the first picture #*in yzma's voice* Barbie??? She's supposed to be dead!!! #screaming I've seen this post like 9 times

[Image 1: a tweet by Manchester News "The Queen has been transformed into a Barbie doll to commemorate her 96th birthday 🥳"

Image 2: Yzma and Kronk from Emperor's New Groove, making faces at an edited in photo of the doll

Image 3: the top half of a jar with the lid on

Image 4: a gif of Andre the Giant in a wrestling ring, looking like he's trying to deescalate a situation

Image 5: tags that read, "#oh people don't know about the Barbie customization community buying this doll just to behead it because it has a unique body type yet # funniest Barbie drama I've seen in a while to be honest"

Image 6: four Barbie dolls as examples of the different body types

Image 7: four Barbi dolls of the 'normal' body type in different yoga poses

[ID: a ¾ view portrait photo of a ball jointed doll, a Unoa Sist face on a Fairyland Minifee body, all in peachy resin. She has a purple wavy wig, purple eyes, and a purple top on, and her face is painted to look like she has on heavy mascara over a more natural looking makeup style. To the right of her is text, saying

“ When you buy a Ball Jointed Doll, be sure it’s a real one. Knockoffs recasted from real dolls harm the hobby and devastate the artists who put their hearts into these art pieces. it’s not ‘like buying a knockoff purse’. There are no ‘big companies’. Tiny teams of artists handcast every doll, and many quit when their work is stolen.

Avoid eBay. Check with the dollmaker to be sure your seller is a legit vendor. If a seller is asking far lower than the maker’s price, it’s probably a scam- a recast. PLEASE avoid recasts.” end ID]

Please reblog this to get the word out to new hobbyists about not destroying the livelihoods of artists and their will to even bother sculpting anything new.

I know too many artists who have either quit sculpting or wouldn’t bother to start producing their unique and impressive dolls

because their art has been stolen or they’ve seen others’ dolls recasted by bootleggers looking for a steal and a quick buck.

Don’t be duped by thieves. Buy Legit.

New creatable world dolls from Mattel

Walmart has them listed for $39.97, but on Mattel Shop they’re $29.99

Creatable World inspires all kids to get creative with doll play – Deluxe Character Kits provide a blank canvas along with the pieces to create unique characters, over and over again! The 11-inch (29.94-cm) doll wears a tank and shorts, has a short haircut and comes with six items of clothing, three pairs of shoes, two additional accessories and a long-haired wig – all versatile pieces that give kids the freedom to make their characters whoever they want them to be. Dress the doll one way for one character, then switch it up for someone completely different! The clothing is straight off the playground, and authentic details keep it even more real. The wig is easy to take on and off – kids can switch long hair for short hair, then back again. Add a skirt, pants or use both. Accessorize…or don’t. Creatable World doll kits give all kids the ability to make and remake characters they love. With so many choices, the fun is never-ending! Okay, this is a pet peeve of mine so I’m going to apologize first because I AM GOING TO GO OFF.

This is not a baby platypus. Baby platypus looks like this:

As you can see, the first image in this post has misteriously lost the artist’s watermarks. It happens a lot.

I can’t remember how many times I’ve had to search for the source of these “animal baby pics” and post the correct version because the harm it does has layers. No, that baby animal don’t look like that, it’s misinformation even if the person sharing it has no ill intentions and believes it was the real deal. And there’s an artist going uncredited and losing business because pics of their work are being circulated as “the real thing”. Which they are not. Definitively not. Very cute, but not accurate.

By the way, the artist behind this platypus doll has a working etsy. Her name is Yulia Leonovich and she makes needle felt animal toys. It took me less than five minutes to find this information by doing an image search on google.

so I just learned about something deeply bizarre. it’s called Plastic Doll Disease, or Hard Plastic Disease

this “disease” affects very specific kinds of hard plastic dolls from the 1940s and ‘50s. as the cellulose acetate the dolls are made of deteriorates, it interacts with the metal parts used to hold the doll together and keep sleep eyes in place. the doll then develops discolored patches, can appear to cry viscous brown tears, and finally warps and splits apart

not freaky enough for you? “infected” dolls give off an acidic vapor that can mildly irritate the eyes and skin of any humans nearby and also pass the “illness” along to similar dolls in close proximity

I feel bad for the poor dolls and the collectors who love them and may have had them since childhood, but…I would dearly love to see this used as a plot device in a movie
