I’m offering you the opportunity to become a Kingsman. A tailor? A Kingsman agent.
Something I’ve been thinking about lately: disregarding my feelings about the shoot your dog test in general, I don’t believe that Eggsy and Roxy were given the same test.
Roxy is in a room with Merlin. They are both standing, it’s relatively sterile and plain. It’s much more of a ‘test’ environment. We don’t see any small chat between them, we just see Merlin hand her the gun and tell her that it’s live, followed by the command to shoot the dog.
Meanwhile with Eggsy, Arthur opens up with small talk. He mentions how cute JB is, asks for his name, asks where it came from, and reluctantly admits that Eggsy made it farther than he wanted him to. They’re sitting in comfortable chairs. This does not feel like a ‘test’ environment. And then he fucking aims the gun at Eggsy before giving it to him, and ordering him to shoot.
There is a very clear difference between these two. Roxy trusts Merlin, she’s seen that he doesn’t do or ask anything without cause.
Eggsy has no reason to trust Arthur, and Arthur creates an uneasy and falsely comfortable environment first.
I still don’t think Eggsy would have shot JB if Merlin had given him the test (based on him swerving to avoid the fox in the beginning, foreshadowing that he puts even an animal life above himself), but I do think that Arthur’s manipulation is significant in this scene.
I swear this is the last time I do a squad goal art… in a while.
My first time drawing Michael Caine is for a squad art I am so sorry.
