“I, I wrote you two letters. One from San Diego, one from New York. And I said- just get on a plane and come. And I said… And you, you didn’t write back. And I told myself, of couse, it’s because you love news more. That doing this would always be more important than any… man.”

Named after Billie Holiday, actress Holliday Grainger is every bit as sultry as the legendary singer. Carving out a successful career in British television since the age of six, Holliday’s portfolio went international in 2010, when she was cast alongside Jeremy Irons as the femme fatale Lucrezia Borgia in the US TV series, The Borgias. The drama, directed by Oscar-winner Neil Jordan, is based on the most infamous, powerful and ruthless dynasty of Renaissance Italy, at the centre of which is ambitious daughter, Lucrezia. Lauded for her self-possession and “kittenish sensuality”, Grainger has played the temptress again this year, opposite Robert Pattinson and Uma Thurman in Bel Ami. However, her versatility and ability to radiate a certain coyness and youthful naivety has led her to be cast in a number of current period dramas; most notably in Cary Fukunaga’s recent adaptation of Jane Eyre, and in Mike Newell’s Great Expectations, scheduled for release in 2012.
Holliday is starring in Great Expectations, out in 2012.
