Tower of London, by Alfred Daniels.
Daniels grew up in east London in the 1920s: born in Bow he began his career as a painter aged 14 in 1939 at the Commercial Art Studios. He served in the RAF during the Second World War after having watched the massive destruction of much of the East End due to heavy bombing. After the war he attended the Royal College of Art.
The style of his pictures, which depict typical London scenes, has led to him being described as the 'Lowry of the East End'. His newest exhibition opens at the Russell Gallery ion the 17th October.
