It will never NOT be funny that they nerfed Gambit’s canon height in X-Men ‘97.

In the beginning of the ‘92 animated series, he is listed as his comic height of 6’2.”. Magneto canonically is also 6’2”.

But Gambit is visibly shorter than Magneto in ‘97, and the height chart shows it as 5’10”, with Magneto’s 6’1”.

Personally I head-canon that Gambit and Magneto are still the same height, but Magneto’s presence is just so powerful it makes Gamby look inches shorter in comparison.

i've basically hit a point where if i see "proship DNI" in someone's bio i just won't follow or interact with them.

it's not even because i'm a "proshipper." (this is a word that basically means nothing anymore.) it's because i'm a grown ass adult who has more important problems to worry about than how someone is dealing with their paraphilias or trauma via fiction. seeing "proship DNI" doesn't so much indicate anything beyond 'i refuse to curate my own spaces' and 'i am a child who cannot do nuance and just smacks generalizations onto anyone whose opinions and lived experience do not 100% match my own.' i don't meant to disrespect anyone, but this is genuinely how this looks to anyone outside of fandom discourse. it's impossible to take seriously, and it's impossible to talk about because people immediate jump to such wild bad faith conclusions that it makes it even more impossible to talk about things that actually matter. like real child abuse. real domestic abuse. that happens to actual, real living breathing people.

live your life, but i am 30 or 40 years old and I do not need this. i learned a long time ago that it's far better to take the initiative and curate my own spaces the best i can than expect other people to do it for me.

i hate to bring this topic up again but so long as people like, 15 years younger than me keep trying to drag my shit into it I guess I have to. i am an adult. i am trans. i am a sexual assault survivor, a childhood abuse survivor, i have trauma, i go to therapy, i can't pay my bills. i don't need this. i've been on tumblr since some of you were like 6 years old.

there's a lot of more important posts out there today about where to go from here for the americans on here

but i just wanna say i'll still be here, doing gay shit, drawing gay shit, all that stuff. so i hope it helps make things easier, somehow, cause it definitely makes things easier for me.

also feel free to send me an ask about art, or AUs, or my comics if you'd like something to get your mind off things.

absolutely love the concept of your x-men ocs (and romyneto in general, which is sadly underexplored in x-men fandom)! can you explain why erik was incapacitated for the first portion of chuck’s life?

Avatar

so without going into TOO many more details before i actually start producing the fancomic, the F31 timeline is broken up into 3 main story arcs

The first takes place from just after '97 S1E3 and goes through to the midpoint of Season 1, greatly expanding on character relationships leading up to it as Erik reconnects with Rogue and better gets to know Gambit because of her.

Arc 2 spans number of years and dramatically diverges from the events of the timeline it branched from. During Arc 2 Max is born. The story arc concludes with Magneto and the X-Men having to avert a major catastrophe brought on by a returning villain (only hint is they last appeared in TAS Season 4.) During this fight Magneto is badly wounded, and as a result is incapacitated.

After a time skip of several years, Arc 3 begins with Erik being met with a world drastically different than the way it was before. The institute is now led as a joint effort between Jean, Scott, and Ororo and has a significantly larger student body. Erik now has multiple grandchildren, his youngest daughter is now a teenager, and Rogue and Remy had a second child together. A major part of various events of Arc 3 involves Erik not only having to reconnect with a world that continued on without him, but having to try and form a bond with this (from his perspective) sudden appearance of a small child named Charles Magnus LeBeau that is apparently one of his children, even if not by blood.

Doesn't really help that Chuck is a bit of a weird one. At first, his main form of interaction with Erik is appearing out of seemingly nowhere and just quietly watching him. He's an odd little duck.

I've handful of em but my main sweet summer babychilds are Max (pictured above) and her baby brother, Chuck. They're all part of my AU (Fragment 31) that is set in a timeline (Earth-97F31/Magneto F31) that has fragmented from Earth-92131. The biggest difference from this timeline and the reality it branched from is that instead of being trapped in a love triangle, Rogue is in a committed relationship with both Magneto and Gambit (as are the two men with each other.)

Max (Maxine) Terrebonne LeBeau is the child of Magneto and Rogue. She looks a lot like her mom in regard to her hair, skin, and eyes but inherited a softer version of her father's distinct nose. Her powers haven't fully manifested even though she's already 16, but she can perceive the electromagnetic spectrum and at times even gets flashes of transmissions made through electromagnetic wavelengths.

Erik was very attached to her when she was a baby, and still likes to dote on her even in her teens. She's a bit awkward and doesn't have a bunch of friends outside of Jean and Scott's daughter, as well as Billy Maximoff. She's also very close to her other half-sister, Lorna, who took on a sort of aunt role to her as she was growing up.

Max has a baby brother named Chuck (Charles) Magnus LeBeau, age 4, born to Gambit and Rogue. Chuck looks a lot like a mini version of his father, with messy, wild hair and his father's distinct eyes. He's very inquisitive and curious and often gets into places and situations that he shouldn't be. Erik was incapacitated during the time that Chuck was conceived and for the first few years of his life. As such, Chuck views him with a tentative curiosity because Erik struggles with taking on a role as a second father to him. His current favorite things are spicy food that he's probably too young to eat (but Remy gives to him anyway) and when his mom takes him for "plane rides" (she carries him while flying.)

like i'm sorry but we as a fandom have to stay firm on our anti-AI values. we cannot suddenly start giving AI a pass when it's something we "want to see" like destiel kisses. it's not suddenly fine. we're not going to start using AI to make fanfic scenes come to life or audio AI to make characters "say" stuff we want to hear. you have GOT to be firm on your anti-AI stance. if you start making exceptions then suddenly anything will fly. fandom is for real art and creations made by real people. no AI fanfics. no AI art. no AI rendered "bonus" scenes. no AI audio. none of it has a place here.

Thank you for preserving these!

Coming back to say: here’s some reasons to hold out against using generative AI as much as you can*.

On the ethics side:

On the labor side:

  • AI has only one real value for companies who look to incorporate it: reducing its reliance on human labor. If it’s not doing that, then why spend money on it? It needs to be a cheaper replacement for something else, and that something is human labor. That’s its selling point.
  • And thus: generative AI is being sold to your boss/potential commissioner as your cheaper competitor.
  • Although the actual potential for generative AI’s output is doubtful, companies are eager to use AI to cut creative labor out of the production process and thus the profit structure. artists are noticing.
  • For example: Companies refusing to include anti-AI language in contracts, prompting strikes
  • AI is replacing people … but mostly making jobs for those who remain even harder than before

That last point is important to me bc if you won’t try to avoid using generative AI for the sake of the people whose work was stolen to train it, or for the environment, or for creatives getting financially squeezed by it … you should avoid it because it’s not going to be around forever.

On the economic side:

  • Generative AI as it stands … really can’t replace humans no matter how hard AI companies try to sell it as a replacement. If it turns out to be a useless expense, then why buy it?
  • If it turns out nobody will buy it … why keep selling it? & in fact that’s the problem: not nearly enough people are buying use of generative AI services/models to make it profitable.
  • If it’s not profitable (bc ppl actively don’t like it & it doesn’t work well), the companies selling generative AI will stop selling it, will close their doors, will stop offering generative AI for free …
  • And all we’ll have is a bunch of collapsed AI startups & lost creative jobs for no reason.
  • The AI bubble will crash, & when it does, all that will happen is a lot of wealth will have transferred to already-wealthy people who were willing to throw massive amounts of money down the drain just to make everyone else a little poorer

Outside of fandom, AI is getting rammed down our throats bc it’s all about profit. Generative AI is meant to steal what little profit artists still make commercially. Let’s not let it take up space in fandom, too!

I can’t force anyone to not use AI, of course, & I don’t expect ppl who already use it to respect any of my reasons to not use it. But i hope this post gives you some reasons to not use it.

  • (You know who’s actually profiting heavily from AI? Scammers.)

*a lot of things are labeled ‘AI’ but aren’t really generative AI, & sometimes you can’t avoid using AI bc of work or something. But do your best, even if only for yourself.

Limited time emergency commissions for $12 each!

I need to raise money to pay down my balance at the nonprofit I get therapy from or else they won’t release my letter for top surgery. I’ve also been bouncing in and out of overdraft and can’t pay for my medication refills.

I’ll only be offering these for a short period of time as I already have a backlog of commissions and don’t want to overwhelm myself too much.

I am offering them via ko-fi here: https://ko-fi.com/c/0dc8268583

My ko-fi page accepts both paypal and stripe.

Anonymous asked:

Uh- are you aware of the meaning of proship?

Proship has never meant anything except a combination of three ideas:

  1. Ship and let ship (your ships don't harm me and vice-versa) and YKINMK (your kink is not my kink, and that's okay; my kink stories don't harm you and vice-versa)
  2. Harassment over fiction is not acceptable
  3. Censorship of fiction is not acceptable either

Any other definitions are made by antis, not proshippers, and are an attempt at revisionism to justify harassment based on false claims.

WAIT that’s what that means?? 😭😭

everyone always has a dni for proshippers I thought it was something freaky or fucked up 😭😭

Avatar
octopuscato

Yeah. Antis like to claim that the "pro" means "problematic", but nope. "Pro" (for) is simply the opposite of "anti" (against), and all that "proship" really means is "Let everyone ship what they want, everyone mind their own business".

Listening to antis about what proshipping means is like listening to incels tell you what feminism means.

I don't like to wade into fandom discourse and at the risk of upsetting any of my followers, if I do, I'm sorry, but I have to say my piece:

I deliberately abstain from involving myself in "pro" vs "anti" 99% of the time, but it really bothers me how I've watched the definition of just a regular shipper become "pro-shipper" and then further be deliberately skewed by folks in real time. Like, listen, I'm in my late 30s, I come from a time where shit like Wincest was just kind of a joke and people who didn't like it ignored it, if you get squicked you don't look. Nowadays people treat that sort of thing as being as bad as real-life murder. Nowadays people act like two *fictional* stepsiblings who weren't raised together falling in love is equivalent to real world incest. Do I like Wincest? No. Do I like step-sibling love stories? No, not really. Do I think either warrants peoples lives being ruined or enduring rampant harassment? Absolutely NOT.

The worst part being is that any time anyone speaks up about this shit, people will crawl out of the woodwork to say "so then you're okay with (real life) pedophilia?" And like... to quote the classic tweet... "No b*tch. Dats a whole new sentence. Wtf is you talking bout?"

Like nowhere else but Tumblr would I be called a "groomer apologist" because I ship two consenting FICTIONAL, NOT REAL adults that just happen to have an age gap. Or a "literal serial killer" because I enjoy horror stuff. Someone once called me a predator because I drew queer smut of adult Digimon because "its a kids show" even though I make deliberately clear to tag and label it and note that my work is not appropriate for nor meant for consumption by minors. Like how fucked up is that? To be an actual real survivor of sexual assault and then be called a predator because you drew Etemon with a dick once?

I don't think pro-shipper is a term that can be salvaged, as it has gone too long being used incorrectly. Maybe it shouldn't be. Nor do I think just not being a cop about fiction should really need a label.

But I think at the very least people should understand that pro-shipper was never about being "pro adults with minors" or "problematic" or "pro [insert rancid thing here.]." It came from a time where ship wars were a regular occurrence, and folks were pushing back against people trying to force others to conform to their tastes instead of curating their own space. It was always about "live and let live", and you didn't HAVE to 'be okay' with gross ass stuff, lord knows I'm not, but you didn't have to see someone who wrote a fanfic and could honestly have some real trauma they are sorting out and equate them with real world predators who hurt real people.

Nowadays, people acting like this in fandom is just so normalized and it genuinely terrifies me in this current fiction climate. In the modern era of the increasing pushes for censorship in fiction and book banning that is a deliberate move by conservatives to make people complacent when they continue to ban books for being too queer. You never have to be "okay" with people writing things that gross you out, or make you uncomfortable, but you can block them and continue on. You don't need to be a cop about it. Curate and block what you can, and if anything, encourage people to responsibly tag their media so it can be more easily avoided and encourage spaces to offer the tools to do such things.

So yeah, there's my thoughts. I'll probably regret posting this, but hey, these are my opinions, and I think I'm allowed to have them.
