1. Ah Fai was a chief animator for McDull’s animated features. He’s super cool. Ultimate senpai.

2. Previous post on breakdowns right here

Some thoughts on acceleration and force

I presented this in the order of how I slowly understood the trick of delivering force - first an abstract concept of impact taught by Ah Fai, then a more complicated discovery on the acceleration pattern, last back to a more abstract concept of breakdowns

Like I’ve previously stressed, 2D animation is everything but one single approach. There’s no one rule that rules them all, but interchangeable ideas with math, or physics, or music, etc. There’s no “perfect” animation either, but what is perceived as organic and dynamic. E.g., using the Fibonacci numbers to animate didn’t bring me a perfect animation! On the other hand, a tiny change in the pattern could already make the feeling of force so much more powerful.

Not so much of a tutorial than a personal experience. I hope you find this interesting hahaha

when the heart of the card responds to your trust just right

PLEASE CAN WE HAVE BAKURA AND MALIK AS YZMA AND KRONK?

THIS JUST GETS BETTER AND BETTER. All I need is Grandpa as the guy who breaks Kaiba’s groove.

“You threw off my groove!”

“I’m sorry, but you’ve thrown off the CEO’s groove.”

What’s next… Bakura becoming a cat?

“Don’t listen to that guy. He’s trying to lead you down the path of righteousness.”

“I’m gonna lead you down the path that rocks!”

What would that make Joey???

“Kurikurikuri??”

“No nonONONONONONO-”

“KURIK URIRIRHR!?”

Ok just go ahead and redraw the movie scene by scene

So, would the jaguars be Beast-type monsters or Dragon-types?

“Get them!”

“Hey, I’ve been turned into a penguin. Can I go home?”

“You’re excused.”

This is the best!

Hey hey hey!! Guess who’s opening up commissions!!

  • OC’s if provided with visual reference
  • Specific Color Palettes if specified
  • Specific Facial Expressions if specified
  • Portraits of people (they’re gonna look cartoony like above tho tho)
  • Transparents for decorating blogs etc.
  • +$10 per additional Character

*** I do not draw hardcore NSFW (altho these are only Mid waist and busts so i doubt it’ll go in that direction) However  I do not consider regular nudes to be NSFW as art school has desensitized me to drawing naked ppl tbh

*** Since these are speedpaint commissions, they can be completed within 2 or 3 days of payment being received. The prices will not change with the intricacy of the character’s outfits, however if they have more intricate costumes expect them to be a tiny bit messier***

To Check how many slots are currently open please go to my art blog Tamadraws and look at the farthest right link.

Even if you don’t order a commission a reblog would be much appreciated!

So I decided to try to combine Shigure’s song with Azura’s for fun I decided to keep Azura’s birthright lyrics because i didnt want to mess with the flow even further

also I apologize if the beginning sounds a bit desync’d with each other, I think Hosoyan sings a bit faster than Renka in the beginning and plus I didnt spent that much time perfecting it

but anyways, enjoy!

Left side is Shigure while the Right side is Azura

also slight warning it might be a bit loud

How To Get A Job Fast As Hell

 @owenabbott

  • Apply to a  job, wait (1) day, then call.  Give them your first and last name. Tell them you submitted an application and that you’re very motivated to find [Enter field name] work. Let the conversation lead you wherever it takes. Be very polite. Say” thank you for your time, I’ll be looking forward to hearing back from you.” Rinse, repeat. This is to force them to be looking out for your application.
  •  When you get to the interview, shake their hand firmly,  tell them your first and last name.
  • Describe your experiences  as “ two years transcription and data entry” if you have a desk job interview and “ [however many years]  costumer service, retail and stock” for your retail jobs.
  • Don’t use job “ buzz words” I stg they hear them all day. Say  things like, “ I’m detail oriented and am very good at taking instruction.”  “ I would like to work for a company with integrity and I feel that [ company name] would be a good fit”
  • When they ask you if you have “reliable transportation” say  YES. don’t tell them what kind of transportation, just say yes. (if you don’t do this, you wont get the job , I’m telling you right now).
  • Research the company. Know what they do, why they do it, how OLD the company is. WHERE it was founded, and what kind of position you’re intending to apply for.
  • When they ask you “ give us a situation where you had to blah blah blah” Make one the fuck up. Make yourself sound good as hell, and like you put your company’s needs slightly above the customer’s needs, but make the customer happy.
  • If they ask you about being outgoing, Say you “like to focus on your work so you can concentrate on doing things right” (which buys you out of having to act friendly all the time)

Questions for after the interview:

1.  Does this position offer upward mobility?

2. Do you enjoy working for the company? (if you’re not interviewing for a temp agency who will send you anywhere)

  •  Then, shake their hand,  Ask them to repeat their name (REMEMBER THIS) say thank you for your time, wish them a nice day and leave. write their name down outside if you have to, just remember the fuck out of it.
  • AFTER your interview, send a card directed to the name of the person who interviewed you (I’ll give you them) that says “Thank you for the interview, I appreciate the opportunity. have a great day” This shows  that you have an understanding of professionalism, and will have them thinking of you kindly (or at least remembering you) when they’re shuffling through the choices.
  • DO NOT tell them you just moved to the city over the phone.  In person, tell them you just moved to the city. Make it sound like the only reason you need a job is because you moved. Not because you’re desperate.

Ive been getting an influx of messages from students asking me what they can do to become a story artist. I decided to put together a list of a few basic things to get you started on the journey. There is much more that goes into making a good story artist but these are just some of my personal suggestions to start.

First, I always like to suggest some reading material. Here are  few books that really helped me wrap my head around a few ideas:

  1. Visual Story- Bruce Block
  2. Story- Robert Mckee
  3. The 5C’s of Cinematography- Joseph Mascelli
  4. Save the Cat-Blake Snyder
  5. On Filmmaking- Alexander Mackendrick

Next i’d suggest watching as many movies as possible. Studies from the greats Kubrick, Spielberg, Hitchcock, Coen Brothers, Kurosawa, or whoever else you find yourself drawn to. When I say study, I mean really analyze the film from all angles. (camera, composition, Story telling, dialogue, acting.) Have a piece of paper nearby and draw small thumbnails of compositions.

Check out the AFI Top 100 lists for starters:  http://www.afi.com/100years/movies10.aspx

Storyboarding involves a lot of drawing. Usually quick drawings that have clear reads. So to better your skills draw as much as possible! Draw everything! But not just mindless drawing really think about what you are drawing and why. Look for specific gestures, facial expressions, and designs. A great way to learn this is through life drawing.

Lastly, Tell stories! The job of a story artist is to visually tell a story through drawings in order to inform others in the production. Great drawings are really second to great storytelling. A good way to improve on telling stories is to do it as much as possible no matter the medium.

Again these are just some of my personal suggestions and a place to start the journey. Hope its helpful!
