Daily Monster 304: Sheepsquatch
Region of origin: West Virginia, United States
Also known as “the White Thing,” the Sheepsquatch, so nicknamed for its shaggy white fur and horns, is a large creature spotted several times in the West Virginian wilderness since the mid-Nineties up until as recently as last year. It has been alternatively described as humanoid or bear-like, switching between bipedal and quadrupedal locomotion. Most sightings usually involved the creature investigating campers or stumbling across hikers and being startled rather than aggressive, retreating into the deeper woods, often accompanied by a terrible, loud screaming, though there have been the odd encounter where it turned aggressive or did a fair amount of damage to a campsite during its examination.
This original drawing of what the Flatwoods Monster supposedly looked like was drawn by an unnamed New York artist off of Kathleen May and Gene Lemon’s descriptions of what they saw. Lemon and May agreed that the end drawing was “quite accurate” to what they had seen on September 12th, 1952.
Day 01: Flatwoods Monster Braxton County, West Virginia, United States. In 1952, when it was first sighted, a local newspaper featured this headline: “Braxton County Residents Faint, Become Ill After Run-In with Weird 10-Foot Monster.”
The “TNT Area” is quite famous when in regards to Mothman. During World War II, explosives were kept in these igloo-like buildings just a bit north of Point Pleasant, West Virginia. However, in 1966, a group of two couples were driving through the area. They claimed to see a “large flying man with ten-foot wings”following them. In 1968, a teenager claimed to have a run in with Mothman at one of these TNT bunkers as well. The anonymous youth claimed to see a creature standing 6 feet tall, all white, with glowing red eyes. Numerous other people have claimed to see creatures fitting these descriptions around the TNT Area.
In May of 2010, one of the bunkers exploded suddenly. It contained over 20,000 pounds of unstable explosives at the time.

“Waxing, waning. The seasons pass, giving way to warmth, and cold in turn. The night relents to dawn and the dusk embraces darkness. You could chase the light, be a fool like I once was, drawn to that flame. I wouldn’t judge you for it. A fox does not judge a hare. Predators do not often stop to put themselves in the mindset of their prey.”
