Lucy’s floor was scattered with envelopes and blank sheets of paper. She sat at her desk, blotches of ink on her fingers and cheeks like she had been writing letters all day.
Natsu crept behind her quietly, placing a gentle kiss at the top of her head. “Dear Levy. Thank you for your friendship…” Natsu read aloud.
Lucy covered her unfinished letter and elbowed Natsu on the side. “Hey! This is private!”
“What are you doing, Luce?” Natsu darted his eyes, glancing at each name on an envelope. Juvia, Gray, Erza, Happy. There were more underneath a pile, but they were too covered for him to decipher.
“I’m writing letters to everyone who makes my day happy,” she said, continuing her note to Levy. Natsu ruffled through her desk, his heart racing with excitement. His letter better be ten pages long, he thought to himself.
Lucy laid her pen down, grabbing Natsu’s hand. “What are you doing?”
“Obviously looking for my letter.” He was grinning, turning his head toward the floor and hoping to find his appreciation buried there.
“Babe, I didn’t write you one.”
Natsu’s heart stopped for a second. His smile went thin, and it took all his strength to keep it from falling into a frown. “Geez, Lucy, I know I annoy you sometimes, but…”
“Natsu! It’s not like that at all!” Lucy intertwined her fingers with his, pulling him in closer to her. With her other hand, she cupped the side of his face, brown eyes twinkling. “Do you want me to write you a letter,” she began, a smile growing on her face, “or do you want me to show you my appreciation?”
Natsu licked his lips, closing the distance between them, and kissed her gently. “The letter. Write me a letter.”
