a certain Gary Panter wrote, “Being an artist is not a game of self congratulation. It is an insecure business. I am not showing you stuff I think is great. I am showing you what I am doing.”
this day and age, so much of being an artist online seems to encourage this game of views and likes and possibilities of viral content. A chance to be or create the big new trend. It is pushed as a necessitated act to pay the bills.
I, and so many others like me, rely on this sort of thing to make sales to help us feed our families and selves, but there’s a balance to be had…
we are not just content to be consumed and sold. We are animals. Humans. People living their lives.
remind the folks on the other side of the screen that you are not just a creator of content. You are not simply a small business or brand or whatever:
you - and I - are human.
