Note: While learning this word and reviewing the history of J.M. DeMatteis and Keith Giffen's classic JLI, Sherm suddenly acquired a new favorite heroine. Anyone guess who?

Alex Ross recreates the iconic, classic first cover of Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars
Secret Wars, a 12-issue series published in 1984, was not the first series designed to be pubilished for only a limited number of issues. DC Comics pioneered the idea in 1979 with their World of Krypton. But what was intended to serve as simply a comicbook tie-in for a line of Mattel toys of the same name became an industry event.
Marvel's Secret War, among many other things, 'crossed over' into most every Marvel title currently being published. Thus, the crossover event was introduced into superhero comics, and nothing has been the same since!
