Voltron season three thoughts and theories.
Evening folks I’ve just seen the latest series of Voltron, and whilst I was a little disappointed it was seven episodes instead of thirteen it has provided some interesting insight into the story of our favourite giant robot.
What I liked about season 3 was the moment when each of the paladins and Allura, were seeing who would be accepted by the black lion, and seeing Hunk and Pidge try was very amusing to watch. However I’m betting the reason it rejected everyone was because the lion probably knew that Kieth was meant to be its new Paladin. One other element was Lance accepting that Kieth was the better choice of leader and Alluras story of her farther being the first red lion did inspire him and his choice leading to the earning the red lions respect, and Allura being accepted by the blue lion. This has also confirmed my theory of Kieth rallying the troops and the moment he said “Form Voltron” it felt like I was watching the old 80s series and when the transformation sequence came I was literally shouting the old transformation phrases.
One issue I could take from this is the length of time of Shiros absence, because I wanted to see Kieth properly develop as a leader but since he's now back and with a new look (still liked the old one though) he may help Coran give tactical support to Kieth and his team with. This has also given a little confusion because in one of the spoiler images I saw on google it showed Shiro fighting alongside Pidges brother, now I assume though this is something we may see in season 4 at some point. Once again I could also see legendary defender using elements from its predecessors such as the parallel dimension element from Voltron the Third Dimension (not one of my favourites) and using old characters such as Shiro’s counterpart Sven. Previously I’d said that using Alluras pink armour was going back to power rangers logic but again this series has more depth and detail and in this incarnation wearing the colour pink is for Alteans to remember the warriors of old which does make sense to me and Alluras Bayard weapon relates to her energy whip from Voltron Force.
I could also see some influence of the Avatar series in Voltron such as Kuvira’s evil Altean cousin and the Galra version of Ty-lee none the less showing a definite connection between the two series. The best element though was in episode seven showing the history of Voltron and how the lions were built and the connection to the comet Lotor was after and judging from my past theories he has bigger plans than his farther. This even shows the origin of Haggar and I really didn’t expect her to be Zarkons wife and what corrupted her, that was a real twist, plus it reveals Zarkons true intentions for wanting control of Voltron not just to rule the universe but to break the dimensional barriers to collect quintessence from other dimensions. This maybe the reason why Lotor wants the comet to create a ship to pierce the dimensions so that he can collect the quintessence for himself.
Its all starting to come together now its astonishing Dreamworks have really outdone themselves with Voltron taking it to levels that didn’t seem possible for its predecessors. Judging from the cliffhanger it seems Zarkon maybe making a comeback come season 4 and Lotors little power play won't last long. I can't wait till season 4 as everything is falling into place.
