@femmefatalenet‘s gtkm → day seven (favorite mortal woman) — cassandra of troy

cassandra was a daughter of king priam and of queen hecuba of troy in greek mythology, cursed to speak true prophecies that no one believed.
a common version of her story relates how, in an effort to seduce her, apollo gave her the power of prophecy: when she refused him, he spat into her mouth to inflict a curse that nobody would ever believe her prophecies. another version has her fall asleep in a temple, where snakes licked (or whispered in) her ears so that she could hear the future. in modern usage her name is employed as a rhetorical device to indicate someone whose accurate prophecies are not believed by those around them. poseidon || greek god of the sea
“For his sake Poseidon, shaker of the earth, although he does not kill Odysseus, yet drives him back from the land of his fathers. But come, let all of us who are here work out his homecoming and see to it that he returns. Poseidon shall put away his anger; for all alone and against the will of the other immortal gods united he can accomplish nothing.”

Persephone was the daughter of Zeus and Demeter, and the queen of the underworld. She was abducted by Hades, the god of the underworld, infuriating her mother who made the crops wither and the earth barren. Zeus intervened and tried to bring Persephone back to the world of the living; however, Persephone ate the seeds of a pomegranate that Hades had given to her, binding her to him for one third of the year. Thus, it was decided that Persephone spend four months in the underworld and eight months on earth with her mother. The period in the underworld corresponded to the winter season, during which Demeter would make the soils barren due to her grief, while her return marked the start of the spring.

Zeus, the fierce one, was the sky and thunder god in ancient Greek religion, the child of Cronus and Rhea, the youngest of his siblings. In most traditions, he was married to Hera but nevertheless was also infamous for his erotic escapades. After reaching manhood, Zeus saved his siblings from their father who devoured each of his children as they were born in fear of being overthrown. After the fall of the Titan-gods, Zeus and his brothers, Hades and Poseidon, shared the world.
