Randomly remembered my theory that one of Winter's allusions is Persephone and started laughing. Because her name is Winter. She's the winter maiden. And she's also Persephone goddess of springtime
If Winter and Marrow are in fact dating or into each other now that the time jump has past i will be screaming "i told you so" all over this website
Day 16: Moment from Atlas Arc
Favorite Moment vs Missed Moment
There were so many good moments/character moments this last volume. I think my ultimate fav was when Winter delivered that line about having received her powers as a gift from Penny. It gave me goosebumps and reaffirmed the show's theme of fate vs choice.
Day 10: Ship Day (OTP)
Atlesian Malamutes
So I was trying to draw a drawing for every ship day (as a personal challenge) and i ended up not making the 1st day and right now the 2nd day is very bad sketches. So instead here's a list of future/married headcanons i wrote a long time ago for my current RWBY OTP: Winter x Marrow
BOTH
- Mixed Atlas ring tradition with faunus armband tradition, and got non-matching rings in each other’s color (Marrow wears Winter’s color, ice blue; Winter wears Marrow’s color, blue-green/teal). This is a growing trend in Mantle.
- Neither are big on PDA. Marrow will put his arm around her and she’ll lean in. Winter will grab and link his arm sometimes when they walk, which means she really likes him right now. Sometimes they’ll hold hands.
- They don’t kiss that often but Marrow will kiss Winter’s cheek sometimes (usually as a greeting or a goodbye, not often in public) and Winter will get a little smile on her face, most of the time she blushes. Sometimes he’ll stay a couple seconds longer and sniff her hair, which she responds to by putting her hand on his face and shoving him away (he’s laughing). Winter hardly ever kisses Marrow. If he’s sitting down and she comes up behind him and puts her arms around his shoulders, she’ll usually kiss the top of his head.
- Getting together in the first place was a huge scandal for Winter’s parents. A Schnee dating/eloped with a faunus?! Also there was a lot of military paperwork to go through so they didn’t break fraternization rules.
- Winter’s parents were not happy when they heard the news, but they did not disown her. They even tried to control the press so they could put a more positive spin on it (AKA attempt to save some Schnee reputation), making it sound more like a publicity stunt.
- They do not attend any Schnee functions. They do not want to lose a whole day being miserable and being asked/overhearing insensitive questions about how their relationship works. The few they attend are usually because its being thrown for Weiss or Whitley, and Winter does want to support them occasionally when its actually something big.
- They have a lot of inside jokes and watch stupid youtube videos together
- Neither of them are really tactile people, but Marrow’s tail always wags when Winter plays with his hair. They subconsciously created a routine where Marrow will put his head in her lap when they’re on the couch and she’ll run her fingers through his hair. Most other touching occurs on the arms and back, and they do like to lean into each other in a side-hug type thing but it doesn’t happen all the time.
- Marrow is the only person Winter lets hold her when she’s upset. She still doesn’t like him to see it but she lets him. She used to lock him out and it frustrated him.
- They ended up sticking to more classic petnames, “honey” and “sweetheart”. “Babe” was in the mix for a little bit but it didn’t last long.
- If they had kids it would be a boy/two boys. According to RWBY genetics he/they would both be dog faunus.
MARROW
- Is the Fun Guy Husband married to the Emotionless Badass Wife. A lot of people don’t understand their relationship and it upsets him.
- He managed to injure his hip, and whenever it hurts again he has to put up with “old man” jokes.
- Tells Winter a lot of bad jokes and she loves them, he can see her fighting not to smile and when they’re touching he can feel her silent laughter. Most people can’t tell, and think his jokes fall flat and don’t understand how he hasn’t given up on that yet. The most anyone who does know Winter will get is if she snorts, which is practically actual laughter for her, but people who don’t know her will interpret it as a “please stop”.
- Winter has come home to find him sitting in the dark and wakes up sometimes in the middle of the night to him moving around in pitch blackness. He forgets he can see in the dark sometimes (when it’s a gradual progression of light).
- Occasionally Marrow will come up behind Winter, put his arms around her, lean his head down, and then take a big loud breath in to smell either her hair or her neck. She always pushes him away but sometimes she actually giggles. She has her own version of this, where instead of sniffing she just blows a raspberry into his neck. He thinks that’s legitimately gross but Winter grew up with siblings so its just another tactic in the Annoying Arsenal for her.
- Marrow is not above chasing Winter around with whatever bug he found in the house she asked him to kill.
WINTER
- Maintained damage from her battle with Cinder, worsened by her continuous movement afterward and her fights with Ironwood. She has limitations she was angry with at first, but over the years she’s learned how to ask for help.
- She can’t carry a lot of weight. Her and Marrow have developed a routine where he picks her stuff up for her without her asking, and it just looks like a husband carrying his wife’s bags. It used to make her angry when Marrow did that without him asking or her asking, but now she appreciates it. This way it doesn’t make Winter look “weak”, and she feels a little bit of love every time he does it without her asking (which is almost every time).
- When it gets cold or rains her body will hurt, and so does Marrow’s. Her and Marrow are considering moving to a warmer location because of this.
- She still works for the military(?) but isn’t on active duty.
- She finds Marrow really funny, but most people can’t tell that she does. He’s learned to read her micro-expressions.
- She’s much more relaxed now. Winter had it ingrained into her from a young age to always look good, put together, and wear nice (mostly uncomfortable) clothes. You’ll now often find her with her hair in a ponytail (instead of her bun) and slightly less nice clothes. She even gives small smiles sometimes.
- She got into wearing sweatpants and sweatshirts while at the Academy. She still wears them now (and Marrow’s old sweatshirt to bed in the winter) but only around the house. If her parents knew they would be ashamed.
- If Winter hears you disrespecting her husband while he’s not around to stop her she will come after you. She is very good at the “what did you say. No, no, I wanna hear it” intimidation thing.
- Winter can, will, and has fallen asleep on the couch right after sitting down. She’s the napping dad in this marriage.
- Marrow’s sense of smell is much stronger than hers, so she went through this process of learning to remember to buy certain things with this specific smell or to look for the no scent options. She does it automatically now. She eventually threw out all her perfumes.
Just rewatched the scene where Emerald meets Ironwood disguised as Penny and Ironwood's face when he sees Winter has betrayed him. So now im thinking about what if Neo infiltrated the Academy not as Oscar but as Winter, and the last thing Ironwood sees before he blacks out after "Winter" attacks him is pink shattered glass revealing a smirking Neopolitan
So ive been thinking about Ren's semblance evolution, and i think we got a lot of the colors wrong.
Here ive chosen to focus on emotions and NOT state of mind or intentions.
1. Red (and Orange?)
Its unclear if the orange petals are the backs of the red petals or their own petal. We've got red on the money: anger. Orange was harder to find, and i actually dont remember the exact dialogue to confirm this but i believe orange is pride (or arrogance), assuming orange is its own petal.
2. Pink
Pink is also on the money: love. Pink represents familial or romantic love, and is associated with its more gentle side (tenderness, affection).
3. White
(I had a really hard time finding pics for this. This one gives the petals a pink color but they are actually white)
A lot of people think white petals are the stand in for romantic love, and i did too for a while. And then i thought that it represented affection or even unconditional love ("innocent love"). I had a hard time finding emotion associations with white, but i believe it has to do with feeling unburdened. So i think white represents relief (or happiness).
4. Green
I think we have green pegged wrong (peace, calm) simply because we see it with Winter in the shot that tells us she's in emotional turmoil, but also that calm is not a emotion. I think the green represents isolation or loneliness. For Winter that makes sense, and for Vine it might relate to how he feels about Clover's death.
5. Blue
(I couldnt find a pic of Marrow for this one)
Blue was pretty easy, since Marrow and Winter are both miserable. Blue is sadness. Blue also represents cautious (which is a emotion) and considering Winter and Marrow are both cautious people it could be a factor here.
6. Purple
Purple was really hard to pin down. A lot of people think it represents either grief or fear, which are traditionally seen as black in many cultures. Given how most media chooses to use purple when they cant make black glowy things, its a logical conclusion. Im starting to believe the purple petals represent shame, considering the conversation here was about her actions at Beacon.
And thats what i think they are. I havent been able to find anything with CRWBY stating the real meanings.
Also during my color research i learned that colors have both positive and negative emotions attached to them, so i wouldnt be surprised if we see these petals again but shown in a completely different context
What you all are missing about Atlesian Malamutes is it is both simultaneously
and
Saw a post from 4 years ago on some other site when i was googling what is winter's allusion and all they said was "i always thought she might be persephone, because persephone's first name was 'kore' which means 'maiden'" and nothing else. and guys. i can see it so clearly.
Persephone: the queen of the Underworld, goddess of spring, the reason for winter, a compassionate and adaptable person who is also unmoving and firm, someone who only sees her mother a few times a year
Which could mean Ironwood is Hades, the god who kidnapped Persephone and the god nobody likes. Also Winter is his right hand man, and Persephone is Hades' queen
(Ironwood's main allusion is the Tinman, but he is also the Titan Atlas and the Sherrif of Notingham. Also seen a lot of people say he's someone from Pinnochio. Basically yes he already has a allusion but he also plays more than one role in other character's allusions)
Which just leaves the question: which parent is Demeter? Persephone's loving but very controlling mother who gets upset when Persephone has to leave. Jacques, an uptight parent who is still very upset Winter left, or Willow, the depressed mother?
Was thinking up married and/or retired AUs for a few of my ships, and it turned into drawing future versions of them and these actually are pretty awesome?? Im so surprised. Every time i design a RWBY outfit they're not fantastical enough, but these actually look like they could be in the show
These are just the ones ive designed so far. I havent gotten to the back view of Winter's yet, thats why you only see her brace (i like to think that she maintained some permanent damage from fighting injured)
Me, upon realizing i have a new ship: must know height difference
According to the wiki Marrow is 6'1 and Winter is 5'7 (i dont know if they included her heels, which look like 2 to 2.5 inches), giving them a 6" difference (half a foot).
It looks like the difference between these lines is about 4", which would mean they were not including Winter's heels in her height, and that she is 5'7
Winter height is about even to Marrow's eyes in heels, and probably even with his nose when not wearing heels
Trying to make refs of just the brace but i lost a lot of resolution transferring the original pictures to my ipad
Also does anyone know what this brace actually does? It appears to be supporting her back/spine and maybe her knees. I dont know if the "armor" is holding her together, padding to soften the blow if she falls or clips a door frame, or is actual armor there to protect the brace from damage.

I AM GLAD YOU ASKED
So its not all that thought out right now, because I thought it up last night. I'll make a whole post on it when I'm done because it has become clear to me that this is about to become one of my AUs (aka way to thought out and researched). So you're about to get what my brain decided to spit ball at me last night. It was basically 3 dif scenarios. One was time travel of all things 🤷♀️
So the root of all these is that Jacques did something (again) that upset a lot of people, and people are huddled up in a group (in the training room? break room?) talking about it. Someone mentions how it doesnt matter what anyone does, it doesnt really effect the guy personally. Marrow says something along the lines of "I wish we could hurt him personally, just once, just to finally get a hit in" (is he allowed to say that on the job? idk but its fanfic so). And either Weiss or Winter suggests the fake dating/marriage idea. I like to think Winter has a lot of personality inside her, she just only expresses anger/irritation outwardly, which Marrow will discover through this journey 😏. So does she like the idea of facing her dad when he's mad? Its canon that she doesnt but Weiss seems to enjoy making him mad when she's not there to get yelled at so I'm transferring that to Winter and dialing it up a bit. So basically Marrow wants to take a potshot at either Jacques or just Atlas elite society in general and Winter is always down for pissing off her dad.
Now heres where things get shifty. Right now Im only coming up with Married For Years dynamic or Oh Shit This Is Serious level of situation which doesnt quite work with the prank vibes this began as. Like Winter and Marrow being forced to have dinner with her parents and stuff after they "eloped", which is just angst, and i was going for Winter and Marrow playing into whatever crazy thing the tabloids are saying. And like by doing this (real or fake) they could be breaking a lot of fraternization rules, turning a fake scandal into a real one. Granted the media, and therefore everyone Jacques has to talk to at functions, cares more about a Schnee dating a faunus. Winter and Ironwood are pretty tight so I dont think either would loose their job. They might try to get Ironwood to officiate their wedding, in a version where they go all in, and he has to say no because if he does that he will officially burn every bridge he has with Jacques and the military kinda needs his dust.
so basically i gotta decide if its gonna be funny, and in turn how much i can stretch their personalities before they get OOC, or it would be serious, with Winter and Marrow trying to keep this up when they dont actually know much about each other and the Ace Ops making unhelpful commentary (*cough* referring to Winter by names Marrow now knows Winter hates, like "cold-hearted" *cough*). I dont see it as "we were drunk and in Vegas and thought it was a funny idea" type thing but also that would be HILARIOUS and i just cant take it off the table yet. Im also having trouble coming up with why Marrow would agree to this, because someone would def try to talk him out of it and a lot is on the line for a prank
as for the time travel one (it was actually this first one that popped into my head and i dont even like that trope, and now its kinda my fav option for this) it was Winter (and Marrow?) ending up back in time during V7 or before era, and present!Marrow seeing a whole nother side of her when she slips and acts like this version of him is her husband, and the Ace Ops actually seeing her express emotion since future!Marrow has managed to pull some personality into her external expressions. And the whole reason they are happily married never wouldve happened if they hadnt gotten married to piss off Jacques. Also Ice Queen Schnee glaring at everyone but being soft around her fun guy husband. Like she's staring daggers at Harriet while Marrow hands her a ice pack and sits next to her on the couch before putting his arm around her and she leans in. Maybe the fight with Cinder left her with lasting injuries (it prob did. I mean she was in a exoskeleton just to walk in V8) and in the following year Marrow got hurt too, so Ruby is over in the corner calling them "old" when they start complaining about how the Atlas cold is making their bodies hurt and "this is why we moved to [insert warm location here]"
And like Winter still has the Maiden powers, and Marrow has really come into his own. They're both badasses but its so weird because Marrow and Winter are married. Also Winter doesnt have her hair up in a tight bun and she smiles once and its so not normal
Weiss is actually super happy to see Winter that relaxed but the Ace Ops are freaking out because this is weird

I think you all are missing out on the pure genius that is a Winter x Marrow Fake Marriage/Relationship AU done purely to spite Jacques
I forget whats the Winter x Marrow ship name? Ive been thinking about them
Really wonder how they're gonna do the Destruction theme with the Summer Maiden
Choice = Fall: Cinder & Pyrrha, who constantly move towards their life goal/choice (being powerful; being a huntress). Also in Cinder's flashback "you make that choice, you'll be running for the rest of your life"
Knowledge = Spring: Raven, who learned the truth and ran from it in fear. She then twisted it around and presented a false Maiden to the world
Creation = Winter: Penny & Winter, Penny herself is a great creation, while Winter has worked hard to create a new life and reputation outside her family name
Destruction = Summer: ?
I dont know how they'll do Summer unless she joins Salem's side/is "evil". Maybe Cinder will take her power? Cinder herself has demonstrated a lot of destruction
They only way i can see them turning "destruction" into a "good" thing is if they find a way to push a harmony (ex. how the universe has to be balanced) or circle of life thing (ex. wildfires (that do happen to occur often in the summer lol) and volcano explosions destroy their surroundings, but it provideds rich soil that paves the way for life)
